    Collaborative workflow management systems in logistic companies require strong information systems and computer support. These IT integration requirements have expanded considerably with the advent of e-business; utilizing web services for B2B (Business to Business) and P2P (Partner to Partner) e-commerce. This paper proposes service oriented model driven architecture for dynamic workflow changes and strategy for implementation of these changes by isolation of services and business processes where by existing workflow systems can easily incorporate and integrate the changes following a step by step process replacement synchronization in workflow. This paper will also describe conceptual framework for prototype implementation resulting in dynamic collaborative workflow management

    Classification Criteria for Governing the Implementation Process of Service-Oriented ERP Systems - An Analysis Based on New Institutional Economics

    Service-oriented ERP systems promise to allow for a fine-grained alignment of IT with the specific functional requirements of an organization\u27s business processes. In this regard, studies particularly emphasize the potential to flexibly exchange services by means of market-based transactions. One important aspect widely neglected, however, is the endeavor of governing the implementation process of this new kind of information systems. Having applied New Institutional Economics, our research reveals that this implementation process, on the contrary, even calls for rather hierarchical modes of governance. However, different types of activities relevant to implementing a service-oriented system have to be taken into account. Hence, in this paper we present a set of criteria enabling organizations to classify these activities in more detail and to choose a suitable mode of governance. We demonstrate the approach by means of an example and indicate directions for future research

    The implementation of electronic procurement processes for product-service systems, consisting of material and service components requires a consideration of strategic, tactical and operational issues in procurement processes and information technologies. Increasingly, in certain industries, these product-service systems consist more and more of cloud-based components like online storage or web applications. In the past, the alignment of business processes with a focus on traditional procurement processes for products or services has been well established. But with the rise of product-service systems as core offering from companies, the design of hybrid procurement processes in value networks has to be developed. The merging of different procurement processes for products and services, however, has severe problems and does not reflect the specific requirements in the procurement of product-service systems, especially with cloud-based components. This article highlights the need for a process-oriented view in procurement at multiple levels of abstraction and describes a model for the design of electronic procurement process in value networks for cloud-based product-service systems requirements. Different process characteristics are examined for applicability to hybrid value performance and allow an adjustment proposal for the hybrid procurement process. The proposed procurement model is validated in a typical case-study in the IT industry

    Improving enterprise business processes with systems analysis and design methodologies and tools.

    Enterprises have to be organized in a business process oriented way. This is in order to be successful in a changing and challenging business environment including uncertainty and complexity in managing business and manufacturing processes. The main objective of this thesis is to implement comprehensive modelling methodologies and tools that capture all useful information included within the enterprise business processes. This has been achieved first through implementing the Systems Analysis and Design (SAD) methodologies and tools for integrating the business design processes. The implementation should recognize the enterprise organization view, data and information view, function view, and also product/service view. Such recognition is required in order to improve the reuse of business process models for the implementation of workflow management applications. The implemented design methodologies have been demonstrated through two case studies, including the modelling of business and automotive manufacturing processes. In Addition, the Architecture of the Integrated Information System (ARIS) has been presented in both implementations using ARIS tool set. The ARIS implementation has assisted in supporting analysis for potential changes, specifying requirements, and also supporting the modeled business processes systems level design and integration activities. Results of using the selected graphical design languages with the systematic explanations of modelling the business process functions and activities revealed the need for implementing comprehensive SAD methodologies. Also, the SAD methodologies have assisted with integrating the enterprise through modelling its business activities, technology, and human elements involved.     Models for Trustworthy Service and Process Oriented Systems

    Service and process-oriented systems promise to provide more effective business and work processes and more flexible and adaptable enterprise IT systems. However, the technologies and standards are still young and unstable, making research in their theoretical foundations increasingly important. Our studies focus on two dichotomies: the global/local views of service interactions, and their imperative/declarative specification. A global view of service interactions describes a process as a protocol for interactions, as e.g. an UML sequence diagram or a WS-CDL choreography. A local view describes the system as a set of processes, e.g. specified as a mipi-calculus or WS-BPEL process, implementing each participant in the process. While the global view is what is usually provided as specification, the local view is a necessary step towards a distributed implementation. If processes are defined imperatively, the control flow is defined explicitly, e.g. as a sequence or flow graph of interactions/commands. In a declarative approach processes are described as a collection of conditions they should fulfill in order to be considered correct. The two approaches have evolved rather independently from each other. Our thesis is that we can provide a theoretical framework based on typed concurrent process and concurrent constraint calculi for the specification, analysis and verification of service and process oriented system designs which bridges the global and local view and combines the imperative and declarative specification approaches, and can be employed to increase the trust in the developed systems.     Comparison of Supply Chain Process Models based on Service-oriented Architecture

    With the passage of time, supply chain processes have shifted toward IT-based business processes regarding service-oriented architecture (SOA) to augment the agility, integration, and flexibility of IT-based applications in enterprise networks. SOA, as a fast-growing paradigm in IT, uses Web service technologies and provides new pattern integration and interoperability in processes, services, and data. Consequently, many reference models have been developed in the field of SC processes to support the requirements for the related modeling, as well as to apply the development and implementation of supply chain information systems. The aim of this paper is to compare six main supply chain reference models regarding SOA and its underlying concepts and to identify which reference model can support different stages of information system development. The results show that no supply chain reference model can support both the coordination and interaction of process models in more detail and with a service-oriented approach in supply chain process modeling. Moreover, there is a need for a plausible methodology for business process modeling based on the service-oriented approach in the domain of supply chain management (SCM)

    Service-Oriented Architecture Adoption In A Portuguese Company: A case Study

    Organizations are constantly facing new challenges that require increasing response and adaptation capabilities. Seeking for agility and flexibility, companies have found in Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) an alternative to integrate legacy systems with emerging technologies and put back the focus on the business by aligning processes and technology. In this article, we present a study about the adoption of SOA in the medium company of North Portugal, more specifically in a manufacturing company. This company is characterized by a number of difficulties for the adoption of SOA, like organizational, cultural and technological factors. However, the use of Business Process Management initiated by the implementation of the ISO 9001 (Quality of Service) it will facilitate in one hand the definition of processes and therefore the services of the future SOA architecture and in other hand, alert the company\u27s administration for the potential adoption of SOA. We conclude that in spite of the difficulties encountered in the diagnostic phase and according to the business context of this company, the adoption of SOA can be a challenge for organizations but they have to ensure a set of structural and organizational requirements

    The role of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and the Internet of Things in the acceleration of circular economy

    Abstract. Circular economy is the alternative to the current linear (make, use, dispose) model. In business model literature, circular economy has emerged recently, affirming more practical methods to solving business challenges and developing innovative solutions for business processes, directly concerning the climate crisis. Circular business models propose to change the product-oriented business models in which the main objective of firms is maximizing profits by the number of products sold, to a service-based business model in which firms make profits by the services they offer. In this context, business models like Product-Service Systems have been identified as enablers of Circular Economy in companies. As a result of this, data and digital technologies presented by Industry 4.0 or the 4th Industrial Revolution, have proven to be tremendous catalysts of circular economy for industries. But despite this knowledge there is very limited implementation of circular economy processes and of Industry 4.0 tools for its acceleration. Academic literature highlighting the specific co-relation of digital technologies to Circular Economy is also limited. There is still a lot of scope to explore the nexus of these topics, by academicians and industry alike. In an attempt to bridge this gap, this study aims to provide an analysis in the role played by Industry 4.0 tools, especially Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and the Internet of Things, in the implementation and acceleration of Circular Economy.
