Can you take the heat? – Geothermal energy in mining

    Get PDF
In 2013, there are less than 20 documented examples of operational geothermal systems on mine sites worldwide. This is surprising, since on remote mine sites, where fuels may have to be shipped in over great distances, heating and cooling from low-enthalpy geothermal sources may have a significant advantage in operational cost over conventional energy sources. A review of factors affecting the feasibility of geothermal systems on mining projects has been undertaken, and has identified the possible configurations of geothermal systems suitable for the exploration, operational and closure phases of mine development. The geothermal opportunities associated with abandoned or legacy mines are also discussed. The potential categories of heat reservoirs associated with mine sites are: natural ground; backfilled workings; mine waste; dewatering pumping; and flooded workings/pit lakes. The potentially lower operational costs for heating and cooling must be offset against the capital cost of a geothermal system. The focus for mine operators should therefore be on identifying at feasibility stage those projects where conditions are favourable for geothermal systems, the potential risks are understood, the economics are likely to be beneficial, and geothermal systems can be established while minimising additional capital costs

Integrated System Post-Implementation Evaluation and Use Assessment

Part of a well-designed health informatics implementation process includes the mechanisms put in place to help the day-to-day operators of the systems. Continual appraisal of these methods necessitates up-to-date investigations. Understanding critical elements which support a positive transition of health information technology (HIT) within healthcare facilities is the objective of the following research. To help develop these findings, a prospective post-implementation and use assessment survey was conducted on two hospitals in Central Texas. The population studied included RN case managers, social workers and supportive staff in the Continuum of Care departments at two Scott & White Healthcare acute care facilities. The implementation process appeared to provide a mostly encouraging transition with a small number of components noted of concern to the staff. Areas of enhancement were revealed included improving training specific to job roles and supplying more fitting integration of processes and workflows

Pivoting Stabilisation in the Sahel: competing visions and implementation checkpoints. Egmont Commentary 2 June 2021.

EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell has recently announced greater transparency from (and better conditionality with) Sahelian leaders following a visit to the region in April. This follows intentions for mutual accountability between the EU and Sahelian capitals and a “civilian surge” on the part of the EU, as outlined in the new European Strategy for the Sahel. Both these concepts are closely connected with “stabilisation” – a word that is mentioned approximately 20 times in the Strategy. Pinning down not just the meaning of this word but also how the EU wishes to implement such stabilization strategy is paramount to ultimately obtaining better living conditions and security for Sahelian citizens

DESIGN OF STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES (SOP) AND IMPLEMENTATION AT PT BSP

This study aims to design a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for shipping companies in PT Bintan Samudra Pacific. The administration is an instruction that becomes an important factor in the success of a shipping company to control transportation operations. PT BSP which requires a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) flow which is expected to be a reference and guide in conducting administrative activities that can facilitate the management of data related to the division of marketing administration, personnel administration, and financial administration. The method used in the design of SOPs is made by summarizing and analyzing several data obtained from data collection and evaluating business processes that have been carried out. From this research, SOP administration in shipping, marketing, personnel, and financial administration can be used as a guide in data management integrated

Double-sampled cascaded sigma-delta modulator topologies for low oversampling ratios

    Get PDF
This paper presents novel double-sampling cascaded sigma-delta modulator topologies for wideband applications. The proposed modulator structures employ finite impulse response (FIR) noise transfer function (NTF) to achieve the aggressive noise shaping with an additional zero at the half of the sampling frequency to alleviate the quantization noise folding. Cascading of the proposed modulator structures is very simple without any additional circuit requirements.Comisión Interministerial de Ciencia y Tecnología TIC2003-0235
