The Motivation to Adopt E-commerce Among Malaysian Entrepreneurs

    Get PDF
E-commerce is important in creating a knowledge society and cashless business environment in the era of the fourth industrial revolution (IR 4.0). However, not all Malaysian entrepreneurs are ready for this digital way of performing business. The e-commerce ecosystem is still less matured, and the e-commerce adoption rate is still low among entrepreneurs of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the factors that influence the entrepreneurs’ motivation to adopt e-commerce. Self-determination theory (SDT) was employed in determining the factors that influence the motivation to adopt e-commerce. This study employed a quantitative research method and surveyed 273 entrepreneurs through self-administered questionnaires. It used multiple regressions analysis to analyse the data and test the hypotheses. Based on the results obtained, it concluded that competence, relatedness and autonomy positively and significantly influenced entrepreneurs’ motivation to adopt e-commerce. Relatedness was found to be the most important factor, followed by autonomy and competence. This study contributed to entrepreneurship literature by applying SDT in understanding entrepreneurs’ motivation in e-commerce adoption. It also shed light on the importance of individual psychological factors in decision making among entrepreneurs. The study suggested that building a strong connection among the entrepreneurs, providing freedom to business operations and developing knowledgeable entrepreneurs are some crucial steps in motivating entrepreneurs to adopt e-commerce, especially in a developing country like Malaysia

Competences for Digital Transformation: Insights from the Norwegian Energy Sector

    Get PDF
Numerous established firms are undergoing digital transformations. To manage a digital transformation (DT), companies should develop DT capabilities. One important prerequisite for DT capabilities is DT competence — a bundle of employee skills, knowledge, and expertise necessary for a successful DT. However, research on which competences are essential for a DT is limited, as is research on how established firms can obtain these competences. Based on a longitudinal case study, this paper provides insight into which competences were identified as important for the DT at an established firm in the Norwegian energy sector, and how these competences were obtained. The paper also presents a conceptual model, to better understand and study the concept of DT competence as a prerequisite for DT capabilities

Governance of Digital Transformation: A Review of the Literature

    Get PDF
Digital transformation (DT) has attracted increased attention across academia and practice, with recent work contributing to an improved understanding of this phenomenon. However, we lack a comprehensive view of how DT should be governed – how do organizational structures, processes, and relational mechanisms around DT decisions influence an organization’s ability to achieve its goals? With DT the focus of governance extends beyond just the decision rights and accountabilities of the information technology (IT) unit. Rather than 'just' being an organizational unit, technology is now core to the organization and its operations. This increases the scope to an organizational level of governance; therefore, traditional IT governance mechanisms may not apply as well to DT. This study provides a review of how the DT literature discusses governance, and identifies areas for future research

The Role of Transformational Leadership in the Successful Implementation of Information Systems in the Government Sector

    Get PDF
This study examines the mediating role of transformational leadership in the successful implementation of information systems in government. Unlike previous research conducted in the commercial sector, the implementation of information systems in the government sector is mandatory so operational variables need to be modified. The data used are primary data collected from 86 respondents who are information system operators. Analysis was performed using Partial Least Square (PLS) SEM. The results of the study show that system quality, information quality, and service quality have a positive effect on the successful implementation of information systems in government. These results also prove that transformational leadership mediates the relationship between overall quality and information system usage. This supports the hypothesis regarding the importance of transformational leadership in the successful implementation of information systems

Factors affecting learner’s satisfaction towards online learning during COVID-19 pandemic: A case study of Vietnam

    Get PDF
Online learning is being considered a new model of knowledge exchange in modern education. In parallel with the incredible impacts of the global pandemic, this is considered an opportunity to promote the development of online learning globally. Therefore, this study proposed a research framework including four factors affecting learner satisfaction towards online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic at a university, which are system quality, service quality, transformational leadership, and self-efficacy. A questionnaire was conducted online to assess which 131 respondents were representative students from two large private universities in Da Nang: FPT University and Duy Tan University. The results from the regression analysis show that three factors have a positive impact on learner satisfaction during COVID-19. This study concludes that students at private universities in Da Nang prioritize system quality as the most significant factor in their satisfaction with the online learning system, followed by transformational leadership and the last one is self-efficacy. Therefore, it can be more strategic for private organizations, developers, software designers, or even transformation-trained trainers to be emphasized to build a system of processes for implementing online learning for students effectively

    Get PDF
The use of the Moodle platform during the pandemic has dramatically increased, especially in education and learning. There have been numerous studies on user acceptance of learning technology. However, until now, there has been no evaluation research on user satisfaction by transformational leadership as a mediator. This study evaluated user satisfaction, namely students, based on the UTAUT and Delone McLean models. The method used is random sampling as a pilot study of 2 classes at a private Islamic university in Jakarta, Indonesia. In this study, we used ten variables, namely; Performance Expectancy (PE), Effort Expectancy (EE), Social Influence (SI), Facilitating Conditions (FC), System Quality (SQ), Information Quality (IQ), Service Quality (SeQ), Transformational Leadership (TL), User Satisfaction (US). The results showed that eight hypotheses were accepted out of 6, so 75% of this pilot study was successful. We concluded that how students act significantly affects how interested they are in using the Moodle platform

Understanding the linkages between lean practices and performance improvements in Indian process industries

    Get PDF
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of lean practices on performance improvement of process industries in India. Design/methodology/approach Based on a survey of Indian process industries, this paper proposes two sets of hypothesis to examine if there is any statistically significant impact of lean practices on certain specific performance metrics. First, the sample is classified into two classes of process industries: the adopters of lean and those who have not yet adopted the lean practices in their manufacturing operations. Then statistical tests are conducted to measure the differences in the level of performance between the two classes of Indian process industries with respect to nine performance measures. The survey results are augmented by two in-depth case studies. Case studies include one from lean adopter firms (a refinery) and another from the firms that have not yet adopted the lean practices (a primary metal manufacturing unit). Findings A survey result of 121 Indian process industries shows that adoption of lean practices results in a positive impact on inventory control, waste elimination, cost reduction, productivity, and quality improvement in process industries. On the other hand, based on the sample data on Indian process industries, no statistically significant improvement could be found on the lot size or space utilization between lean adopters and their counterparts. Practical implications This research provides guidance to the managers on how adoption of lean practices results in better performance in process industries in several operational areas. Originality/value To the knowledge, this study is the first attempt to analyze the impact of lean practices on a set of specific performance metrics in Indian process industry. Although this study focuses on the Indian process industry, the authors believe that findings of the research can inform other practitioners and researchers who are considering implementing lean in process industry sector in other developing countries like India. </jats:sec

    Get PDF
The digital business environment offers opportunities to develop new business models and support organizational growth. It also brings fast-paced changes, global competition, and turbulence. To benefit from these opportunities, business leaders and managers must adapt and develop the relevant capabilities in this context. However, the literature falls short in describing the competencies required by professionals that lead the digital transformation journey. To address this gap, we conducted a panel with digital transformation experts. We also performed a systematic literature review to identify the competencies needed to lead optimally in the digital business environment. Our results present four categories of competencies based on experts and literature: Technical, Managerial, Social, and Motivational. Our findings bring insights for future research on long-life learning for business leaders and managers. They also inform practice about the relevance of digital literacy in leading an organization’s digital transformation successfully and sustainably
