Towards Automatic Model Completion: from Requirements to SysML State Machines

Even if model-driven techniques have been enabled the centrality of the models in automated development processes, the majority of the industrial settings does not embrace such a paradigm due to the procedural complexity of managing model life cycle. This paper proposes a semi-automatic approach for the completion of high-level models of critical systems. The proposal suggests a specification guidelines that starts from a partial SysML (Systems Modeling Language) model of a system and on a set of requirements, expressed in the well-known Behaviour-Driven Design paradigm. On the base of such requirements, the approach enables the automatic generation of SysML state machines fragments. Once completed, the approach also enables the modeller to check the results improving the quality of the model and avoiding errors both coming from the mis-interpretation of the tool and from the modeller himself/herself. An example taken from the railway domain shows the approach.Comment: Editor: Ib\'eria Medeiros. 18th European Dependable Computing Conference (EDCC 2022), September 12-15, 2022, Zaragoza, Spain. This paper describes a method for the design of autonomous spacecraft, based upon behavioral approaches to intelligent robotics. First, a number of previous spacecraft automation projects are reviewed. A methodology for the design of autonomous spacecraft is then presented, drawing upon both the European Space Agency technological center (ESTEC) automation and robotics methodology and the subsumption architecture for autonomous robots. A layered competency model for autonomous orbital spacecraft is proposed. A simple example of low level competencies and their interaction is presented in order to illustrate the methodology. Finally, the general principles adopted for the control hardware design of the AUSTRALIS-1 spacecraft are described. This system will provide an orbital experimental platform for spacecraft autonomy studies, supporting the exploration of different logical control models, different computational metaphors within the behavioral control framework, and different mappings from the logical control model to its physical implementation

Exploring disrupting scenarios in the fashion retail and communication paradigms.

The growing complexity in the economic sphere, the accelerating rate of change, the new information technology and the globalization of cultural processes create a new landscape. The new tech habits are reshaping customer behaviours and busi- nesses. Contaminations, hybridizations and negotiations increasingly characterize today’s retail landscape. The future of retail is connected to how well brands adapt and take advantage of digital change. Within this framework, the fashion system can catch the opportunity to reflect and redesign the entire production and cultural system. Today, the shopping experience is realized thanks to multiform sensory and informational solicitations and the different distribution and communication channels, both physical and digital, defining new needs, strategies, technologies and even new aesthetic forms. In this renewed context, retail becomes increasingly relevant both in its physical and digital format and, above all, in the ‘phygital’ one, between virtual and real. A form that creates new sales space through the creation "of experiences and interactions between the physical space and the intangibility of the digital world: from the multichannel, we move towards increasingly inte- grated strategies that use omnichannel sales and communication methods. In this context, new paradigms and new retail concepts emerge, bridging communica- tion and distribution. Communication actions that are increasingly transversal, enriched with new languages and tools capable of reverberating the aura of fash- ion through the creation of real cultural palimpsests such as the Dior Talks and Possible Conversations by Prada, the Alexander McQueen Floral Challenge or the Trivia by Salvatore Ferragamo. Projects between communication, art and market- ing that redefine the fashion point of view on the relationship between real and digital; as well as the Sunnei Canvas project that uses 3D design tools both for the development of the collection and for the creation of animated avatars that will guide the final translation of the brand’s lexicon.

Artificial intelligence and new business models in agriculture: a structured literature review and future research agenda

    Get PDF
Purpose Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a growing technology impacting several business fields. The agricultural sector is facing several challenges, which may be supported by the use of such a new advanced technology. The aim of the paper is to map the state-of-the-art of AI applications in agriculture, their advantages, barriers, implications and the ability to lead to new business models, depicting a future research agenda. Design/methodology/approach A structured literature review has been conducted, and 37 contributions have been analyzed and coded using a detailed research framework. Findings Findings underline the multiple uses and advantages of AI in agriculture and the potential impacts for farmers and entrepreneurs, even from a sustainability perspective. Several applications and algorithms are being developed and tested, but many barriers arise, starting from the lack of understanding by farmers and the need for global investments. A collaboration between scholars and practitioners is advocated to share best practices and lead to practical solutions and policies. The promising topic of new business models is still under-investigated and deserves more attention from scholars and practitioners. Originality/value The paper reports the state-of-the-art of AI in agriculture and its impact on the development of new business models. Several new research avenues have been identified

Shaping the future of cold chain 4.0 through the lenses of digital transition and sustainability

    Get PDF
The digitisation of supply chain management lies at the crux of modern industry and similar trends are noticeable in the cold chain (CC) under the cold chain 4.0 (CC 4.0) concept. However, the extant research lacks a systematic summary of existing findings on CC 4.0. Therefore, this study provides a bibliometric and network analysis of 618 high-quality CC 4.0 publications extracted from the Web of Science (WoS). The study uses performance assessment and science mapping to investigate the impact of digital and sustainable technologies in the CC domain. Four main research streams and 19 research propositions are identified to provide an informative overview of the most recent developments in the emerging and growing domain of CC 4.0 and the interface between information systems and operations management. The study further identifies the critical role and impacts of digital-sustainable transformation and presents an agenda for future research focusing on critical theoretical and managerial areas that remain understudied

Blockchain enabled industrial Internet of Things technology

The emerging blockchain technology shows promising potential to enhance industrial systems and the Internet of things (IoT) by providing applications with redundancy, immutable storage, and encryption. In the past a few years, many more applications in industrial IoT (IIoT) have emerged and the blockchain technologies have attracted huge amounts of attention from both industrial and academic researchers. In this paper we address the integration of blockchain and IIoT from the industrial prospective. A blockchain enabled IIoT framework is introduced and involved fundamental techniques are presented. Moreover, main applications and key challenges are addressed. A comprehensive analysis for the most recent research trends and open issues is provided associated with the blockchain enabled IIoT
