Bibliometric studies on single journals: a review
This paper covers a total of 82 bibliometric studies on single journals (62 studies cover unique titles) published between 1998 and 2008 grouped into the following fields; Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (12 items); Medical and Health Sciences (19 items); Sciences and Technology (30 items) and Library and Information Sciences (21 items). Under each field the studies are described in accordance to their geographical location in the following order, United Kingdom, United States and Americana, Europe, Asia (India, Africa and Malaysia). For each study, elements described are (a) the journalâs publication characteristics and indexation information; (b) the objectives; (c) the sampling and bibliometric measures used; and (d) the results observed. A list of journal titles studied is appended. The results show that (a)bibliometric studies cover journals in various fields; (b) there are several revisits of some journals which are considered important; (c) Asian and African contributions is high (41.4 of total studies; 43.5 covering unique titles), United States (30.4 of total; 31.0 on unique titles), Europe (18.2 of total and 14.5 on unique titles) and the United Kingdom (10 of total and 11 on unique titles); (d) a high number of bibliometrists are Indians and as such coverage of Indian journals is high (28 of total studies; 30.6 of unique titles); and (e) the quality of the journals and their importance either nationally or internationally are inferred from their indexation status
Opinion mining and sentiment analysis in marketing communications: a science mapping analysis in Web of Science (1998â2018)
Opinion mining and sentiment analysis has become ubiquitous in our society, with
applications in online searching, computer vision, image understanding, artificial intelligence and
marketing communications (MarCom). Within this context, opinion mining and sentiment analysis
in marketing communications (OMSAMC) has a strong role in the development of the field by
allowing us to understand whether people are satisfied or dissatisfied with our service or product
in order to subsequently analyze the strengths and weaknesses of those consumer experiences. To
the best of our knowledge, there is no science mapping analysis covering the research about opinion
mining and sentiment analysis in the MarCom ecosystem. In this study, we perform a science
mapping analysis on the OMSAMC research, in order to provide an overview of the scientific work
during the last two decades in this interdisciplinary area and to show trends that could be the basis
for future developments in the field. This study was carried out using VOSviewer, CitNetExplorer
and InCites based on results from Web of Science (WoS). The results of this analysis show the
evolution of the field, by highlighting the most notable authors, institutions, keywords,

Authorship analysis of specialized vs diversified research output
The present work investigates the relations between amplitude and type of
collaboration (intramural, extramural domestic or international) and output of
specialized versus diversified research. By specialized or diversified
research, we mean within or beyond the author's dominant research topic. The
field of observation is the scientific production over five years from about
23,500 academics. The analyses are conducted at the aggregate and disciplinary
level. The results lead to the conclusion that in general, the output of
diversified research is no more frequently the fruit of collaboration than is
specialized research. At the level of the particular collaboration types,
international collaborations weakly underlie the specialized kind of research
output; on the contrary, extramural domestic and intramural collaborations are
weakly associated with diversified research. While the weakness of association
remains, exceptions are observed at the level of the individual disciplines
A single journal study : Malaysian Journal of Computer Science
Single journal studies are reviewed and measures used in the studies are highlighted. The following quantitative measures are used to study 272 articles published in Malaysian Journal of Computer Science, (1) the article productivity of the journal from 1985 to 2007, (2) the observed and expected authorship productivity tested using Lotka's Law of author productivity, identification and listing of core authors; (3) the authorship, co-authorship pattern by authors' country of origin and institutional affiliations; (4) the subject areas of research; (5) the citation analysis of resources referenced as well as the age and half-life of citations; the journals referenced and tested for zonal distribution using Bradford's law of journal scattering; the extent of web citations; and (6) the citations received by articles published in MJCS and impact factor of the journal based on information obtained from Google Scholar, the level of author and journal self-citation
An open database of productivity in Vietnam's social sciences and humanities for public use
This study presents a description of an open database on scientific output of Vietnamese researchers in social sciences and humanities, one that corrects for the shortcomings in current research publication databases such as data duplication, slow update, and a substantial cost of doing science. Here, using scientistsâ self-reports, open online sources and cross-checking with Scopus database, we introduce a manual system and its semi-automated version of the database on the profiles of 657 Vietnamese researchers in social sciences and humanities who have published in Scopus-indexed journals from 2008 to 2018. The final system also records 973 foreign co-authors, 1,289 papers, and 789 affiliations. The data collection method, highly applicable for other sources, could be replicated in other developing countries while its content be used in cross-section, multivariate, and network data analyses. The open database is expected to help Vietnam revamp its research capacity and meet the public demand for greater transparency in science management

No special education is required for either endeavor, and nothing
precludes a person from being both an author and an inventor.
Inventors working on patentable industrial projects geared
toward commercial exploitation tend to be scientists or engineers.
Authors, with the exception of those writing computer code, tend
to be educated or trained in the creative arts, such as visual art,
performance art, music, dance, acting, creative writing, film
making, and architectural drawing. There is a well-warranted
societal supposition that most of the inventors of patentable
inventions are male. Assumptions about the genders of the
authors of remunerative commercially exploited copyrights may
be less rigid. Women authors are more broadly visible than
women inventors across most of the typical categories of
copyrightable works.
Yet, whether one considers patentable inventions or
copyrightable works, the vast majority of the very profitable ones
are both originated and controlled by men. This causes a host of
negative consequences for women. They start and run
businesses at much lower rates than men and rarely reach elite
leadership levels in the corporate world or within high-profile
artistic or cultural communities. They are perceived as less
competent, less dedicated, and less hard working, and suffer from
a lack of female mentors and female colleagues. Women are lied
to during financial negotiations more than men and earn less
than men in equivalent positions. Women control only a tiny
portion of the worldâs wealth. Though female students
outperform male students in almost every context and at almost every level of education, and even seek postdegree job-related
training in greater numbers than men, this has not helped
women to produce and control patentable inventions or to author
and own valuable copyrighted works in numbers comparable to
men
Gender Disparities in Science? Dropout, Productivity, Collaborations and Success of Male and Female Computer Scientists
Scientific collaborations shape ideas as well as innovations and are both the
substrate for, and the outcome of, academic careers. Recent studies show that
gender inequality is still present in many scientific practices ranging from
hiring to peer-review processes and grant applications. In this work, we
investigate gender-specific differences in collaboration patterns of more than
one million computer scientists over the course of 47 years. We explore how
these patterns change over years and career ages and how they impact scientific
success. Our results highlight that successful male and female scientists
reveal the same collaboration patterns: compared to scientists in the same
career age, they tend to collaborate with more colleagues than other
scientists, seek innovations as brokers and establish longer-lasting and more
repetitive collaborations. However, women are on average less likely to adapt
the collaboration patterns that are related with success, more likely to embed
into ego networks devoid of structural holes, and they exhibit stronger gender
homophily as well as a consistently higher dropout rate than men in all career
ages
