Practical Aspects of Data Mining Using LISp-Miner

The paper describes some practical aspects of using LISp-Miner for data mining. LISp-Miner is a software tool that is under development at the University of Economics, Prague. We will review the different types of knowledge patterns discovered by the system, and discuss their applicability for various data mining tasks. We also compare LISp-Miner 18.16 with Weka 3.6.9 and Rapid Miner 5.3

Comparing GUHA and Weka Methods in Data Mining

The development of computers has enabled the collection and storage of terabytes of data and the creation of large data warehouses. The main problems with such data are their size and structure. The fundamental intellectual challenges at present are the analysis and understanding of the data in the decision-making process. This thesis introduces and compares the methods of GUHA and Weka software. The thesis highlights the differences between GUHA and Weka software through taking 2 methods which reveal the association rules of the Weka programme and comparing them with three methods which reveal the association rules of the GUHA programme. The difficulty of the task is the amount of computation which has to be done to explain whether the methods have any differences or not. The work has been done by taking the results from one of the Weka methods and comparing these with all the methods of GUHA. The second Weka method provides the same results as the first one, but in a different order. The results have been carefully compared and there are some comments in the discussion part of the thesis

Deliverable D4.1 Specification of user profiling and contextualisation

This deliverable presents a comprehensive research of past work in the field of capturing and interpreting user preferences and context and an overview of relevant digital media-specific techniques, aiming to provide insights and ideas for innovative context-aware user preference learning and to justify the user modelling strategies considered within LinkedTV’s WP4. Based on this research and a study over the specific technical and conceptual requirements of LinkedTV, a prototypical design for profiling and contextualizing user needs in a linked media environment is specified

The progress of data mining technology and large public popularity establish a need for a comprehensive text on the subject. The series of books entitled by "Data Mining" address the need by presenting in-depth description of novel mining algorithms and many useful applications. In addition to understanding each section deeply, the two books present useful hints and strategies to solving problems in the following chapters. The contributing authors have highlighted many future research directions that will foster multi-disciplinary collaborations and hence will lead to significant development in the field of data mining
