pedagogens roll
Syfte:
The lexical organisation of monolingual Arabic-speaking 9-11 year old schoolchildren
The studyâs aim is to investigate the lexical organisation in Arabic-speaking children in grades 4 and 5 to see whether they have undergone the syntagmatic-paradigmatic shift â a reorganization of the mental lexicon to a more semantic-based organisation, which is estimated to have been undergone by the age of 10. The results are compared to previous studies on mono- and bilingual children. The studyâs data was gathered in 2008 from 40 students attending schools in the city of Deir-ez-Zoor in Syria who were tested with Kent and Rosanoffâs word-association test (KR-list).
The results show that less than half of the students have undergone the syntagmatic-paradigmatic shift as expected for their age and therefore differ from studies regarding other mono- and bilingual students. A probable reason could be that the KR-list, which consists of 100 common nouns and adjectives, does not fully show the studentsâ lexical organisation due to the fact that Arabic is a verb-based language.
Further studies using verb-based word association tests are needed in order to better reflect the lexical organisation in monolingual Arabic-speaking children. Data frĂ„n en insamling gjord Ă„r 2008 pĂ„ 40 elever frĂ„n skolor i staden Deir-ez-Zoor i Syrien anvĂ€nds i studien.
The aim of this study was to investigate the parentsâ perspectives of childrenâs transitions from preschool to school (preschool class and recreation centre) in two Swedish municipalities. The aim was also to investigate the importance of transition activities from the parentsâ perspectives. In this study, a transition is understood as a mesosystem, a discontinuity and a non-linear process. A questionnaire with close-ended questions in paper form was constructed and distributed to the parents with the help of the heads and teachers. 131 parents, whose children had recently moved from preschool to school, received the questionnaire, while 70 parents answered it. The data was statistically analysed. The results showed that i) the parents, with few exceptions, experienced childrenâs transitions as safe and well-functioning, ii) about half of the parents felt some concern or concern in conjunction with the childrenâs transitions, iii) the parents of children in need of extra support and/or extra stimulation and challenges felt some concern or were concerned more often and iv), overall, the parents considered transition activities to be important. The study has relevance for staff working in preschools and schools, heads and teachers in training, researchers and others interested in educational transitions and transition activities
Lessons from the Swedish experience
An important principle in the Swedish welfare model is that all adults â women and men, mothers and fathers â should have the possibility to support themselves through wage work. Public child care constitutes a very important part of the social infrastructure which should make this possible (Bergqvist & Nyberg 2001, 2002). However, an adequate supply of public child care is not enough; it should also be accessible, of high quality and affordable. If not, public child care risks being a marginal phenomenon, a last resort for mothers (parents) who do not have a choice. The policies laying the foundations of the dual earner model emerged in Sweden in the course of the 1960s and 1970s (Sainsbury 1996, 1999; Bergqvist et al. 1999; Löfström 2004). A new approach to gender equality in both employment and responsibility for children and family became acknowledged in the law and in policies, if not always in practice. However, at the beginning of the 1990s there was a sharp economic downturn. The employment rate fell dramatically and unemployment soared to levels unthinkable since the 1930s.1 The employment crisis, in turn, produced an accelerating public sector deficit, with revenues plummeting and public expenditures shooting up.2 The situation began to improve only as the decade came to an end, but the employment rate is considerably lower today than in 1990, while the unemployment rate is much higher and this is true for both women and men. In addition to the economic crisis, there were also other factors that might constitute a challenge to the stability of the traditional Swedish welfare model, the dual earner model and gender equality. First, the Social Democratic Party lost its historically dominant position, which opened the way for neo-liberal ideas on market forces and privatisation. The internationalisation of capital markets and financial transactions, plus Swedenâs participation in the European integration project also posed new challenges. Given the unemployment situation, the financial strains, globalisation, and the spread of neo-liberal ideas, it is reasonable to assume that serious attempts to transform the Swedish welfare state might have been undertaken and the dual earner model might be undermined. The aim of this article is to assess the consequences of the economic crisis on publicly financed child care. What happened to the supply of child care, to the accessibility, affordability and to the quality in public child care between 1990 and 2005? To start with, however, the background in terms of mothersâ employment and the expansion of public child care is briefly presented
EnkÀtundersökning om BorÄs Stads skolskogar
As a thesis, I have conducted a survey in collaboration with the technical administration BorÄs city, which deals with examining elementary schools and preschools use of school forests. And look at how it can develop in the future to better match the educational activities.
The survey was done because I am interested in the more social values that a forest can embarrass and highlight the importance of staying out in the forest. It is important to work for children and young people to have good opportunities to have school to some extent outside.
These answers showed surprisingly big differences between primary and lower secondary school and use school forests. From the majority of respondents, many wanted more information and help to develop the use of school forests. The survey also demonstrated a great interest from schools for these issues. Surveys provide answers to the different requirements that elementary schools and preschools have in the school forests and provide opportunities for improvement of the forest forests, both in BorÄs city and in a broader perspective.
Specifically, it provides answers to which schools want help with the creation and development of school forests. It shows the differences in the use and requirements between primary and lower secondary schools and preschools. This provides a good basis for well-adapted school forests for each activity.
One big question is how to make it even more accessible for schools to use school forests in everyday life. One word is that it must be easy to use
verksamheten.
