Designing Facility Layout of an Amusement Arcade using Market Basket Analysis

    Get PDF
In this study, we applied the market basket analysis to design facility layout of an amusement arcade in Surabaya. The problem faces by the amusement arcade is customers only play in certain games that causes many game machines to be idle. This problem will be difficult to resolve because of revenue pattern has not been acknowledged. Therefore, market basket analysis is applied to know the customer behavior in playing the games. As the result we proposed two layouts. First proposal layout will be designed based on game type. This layout will classify game machines based on market basket analysis results in each category where each category is independent of other category. The independent assumption in the first layout is released in the second layout proposal. In the second layout proposal each game category is dependent of other category. As the result, the second proposal is more likely to be applied, since this arrangement does not cost any money and does not require specific material handlin

Strategic Human Resource Management Measures: Key Linkages and the PeopleVantage Model

    Get PDF
The field of human resource management faces a significant dilemma. While emerging evidence, theory and practical demands are increasing the visibility and credibility of human capital as a key to organizational success, the measures used to articulate the impact of human resource management decisions remain misunderstood, unwanted by key constituents, or even counter-productive. This article proposes that the key to creating meaningful HR metrics is to embed them within a model that shows the links between HR investments and organizational success. The PeopleVantage model is proposed as a framework, the application of the model is illustrated, and the potential of the model for guiding research and practical advances in effective HR measures is discussed

The valuation tool user guide: monetizing Cradle to Cradle®

This User Guide outlines the object, scope and expected deliverables from the Valuation Tool component of the Cradle to Cradle ® C2C BIZZ project. It describes the compendium of subtools that have been developed comprising: i) overview of funding tools; ii) C2C investment appraisal tool; and iii) C2C value indexing tool. The underpinning methodologies, as well as their inherent strengths and limitations are also described. The C2C BIZZ project as a whole aims specifically to promote and enhance the implementation of C2C methods in business site development within North Western Europe (NWE) (PAD, p.14). It is intended to infuse C2C notions into conventional site development, restructuring and management. The primary focus of the project is on planning, building and managing of business sites with C2C credentials (PAD, p.18) using sites in Lille Metropole (La Lainiere), London (London Sustainable Industries Park) and Luxemburg (Ecoparc Windhof) as experimental fields. C2C BIZZ is not concerned with the internal operations and activities of occupiers or users of the developed site. Accordingly, the scope of the valuation tool is confined to the planning, building and management of C2C sites. The deliverable from this component is a compendium of subtools (see Figure 1 below) that may be used to analyse the financial performance of C2C credentials in business sites to aid the making of a business case for such developments and evaluating the financial incentives for particular C2C site development projects. This entire work is premised on the argument that the wider adoption of C2C principles within the built environment depends on the rate of uptake by the private sector. The private sector, being profit driven, are likely to engage in C2C site development if they are convinced of its capacity to contribute to their business goals which ultimately is a return on their investment. The tool development described in this document attempts to provide a framework for collating an evidence base that can assist in articulating the business case for C2C in business site developments

Fayette County, WV Case Study: A Look at the Movement towards Energy and Water Efficiency

    Get PDF
The focal area for this study is Fayette County, West Virginia. Using a qualitative semi-structured interview process, information was gathered so as to present a clear overview of what both the private and public sector are doing with regard to energy and/or water efficiency within the county. Given the pervasive nature of the issue of efficiency, interviewees were encouraged to describe their agency or organizational efforts as it relates to what they thought “energy and/or water efficiency” entailed. On the basis of the twenty-one interviews conducted, the progress being undertaken by different entities was noted and divided under five themes (e.g., capability building, infrastructure, events, reduced cost, and education). This idea of theme is then integrally tied to the main idea, message, or objective of a given activity. This framework is useful in order to show the general entity’s (e.g. community, government, not-for-profit, or for-profit) pattern of activity. Similar to entity activities being organized according to a related theme, challenges to the various entities are categorized for ease of dissemination. These categories encourage analysis and understanding of whether there are challenges that are in common between entities as well as what may be a particularly troublesome category for an entity and may need more attention focused on that category so as to lessen the challenges. The case study then summarizes the opportunities and challenges present in Fayette County with regard to their potential applicability to other municipalities in Appalachia

Digital spaces / Axians "customer brand engagement" project: operational business model

Driven by the rise of technology the physical world becomes increasingly connected to the digital world. As a result, vast amounts of data from sensorial measurements are available waiting to be fully utilized. The “Customer Brand Engagement” project of Axians, the field lab partner, aims to create a system for the measurement of engagement. Understanding the customer on the inside through data from the outside, will lead to a deeper customer knowledge, which enables forming long lasting and meaningful connections between customers and brands. The available opportunities of such analytics technologies are being examined in the report

Service Value Chains and Effects of Scale

This paper generalizes Porter’s notion of the value chain for the analysis of service industries. The generalization entails that the flow and the physical transformation and assembly of goods that are characteristic of manufacturing are generalized into flows and transformation of data and flows and transformation of the physical and mental condition of people that are characteristic of many service industries. Utility is generalized from utilities of forms and function of goods, characteristic of manufacturing, to utilities of time, place, convenience, speed, safety, entertainment, physical and mental wellbeing, knowledge and mental capacity, funding and assurance. The analysis yields a categorization of industries according to central features of the value adding process. Here, the analysis is used to identify sources of (in)efficiency of scale, scope and experience, along the value chain.Service industries;production structure;economy of scale
