ComunicaciĂłn presentada al 2nd ACM Workshop on Methods and Cases in Computing Education for the European Higher Education Area, celebrado en Barcelona el 22 de abril de 2009.This paper describes how the practical sessions of the Digital Systems Laboratory within the Computer Science Degree have been adapted to allow a visually impaired student to take part in the practical sessions. Regular students use a computer--aided design tool (OrCAD) for digital design in their practical assignments. This work shows how the use of special instrumentation allows visually impaired students to work with regular students in the same lab, where the CAD tool is installed. The teaching methodology and the obtained assessments are introduced here. Some specific practical materials have been designed and they are described in this work; the design of a special buzzer is also presente

    Substitute Arguments in Constitutional Law

In this article, I argue that that substitution is crucial to our practice of constitutional law. Of course, if one wished, one could easily extend the domain of substitution beyond these boundaries. Substitute arguments are an important aspect of law more generally and, indeed, of life. I have nonetheless chosen to limit my discussion to constitutional substitution because, I believe, overt discussion of substitution in this particular area illuminates important aspects of our constitutional regime-–aspects that substitution itself regularly obscures. To put my central point directly, I hope to show that constitutional law amounts to one, giant substitute argument

Condemned to a Perpetual Jacuzzi… With Millions of Your Best Friends

Condemned to a Perpetual Jacuzzi… With Millions of Your Best friends is a multi-media exhibition that investigates the personal, the socio-political and the cultural notions of home. The mind’s vision of home is most often held as an idealized place – the location where meanings and attachments are personal and symbolically intense. Forms of utopian thinking are embedded as the very cornerstone of what the home represents, especially in contemporary media iterations of the home. My work grapples with the lived experience and materiality of the home by redrafting the imagery presented in Interior Design and Architectural publications. Through collage, painting, video and performance to camera I subvert the structured and predictable media’s language of desire by creating unusual viewing. At first glance, my work appears “homey”, as the magazine source material is evident, but as details register and accumulate, it becomes apparent that there is a tension between comfort and discomfort in the images. There is disruption and unpredictability in these inaccessible, aspirational spaces. You wouldn’t actually want to live there even though it feels like you might

This research focused on Hawai’i student’s cultural identity at the University of Portland, which is a catholic based institution. To get a better understanding of how they express their cultural identity to the larger population, the research asked what the significance of Luau was to expressing cultural identity to the students and how it helps to shape their identity. Two students from Hawai’i were interviewed for this research that both had a position or stake in the Hawai’i club and Luau. They were interviewed for around a half hour with questions focused on their cultural identity, how they express it at the University of Portland, and the role of Luau in expressing their culture. The results found that Luau is not just about presenting their culture, but also about how the Hawaiians accept other people and cultures outside of their own and how they aim to be accepted by them
