    Onduleur quasi-Z-source pour un système de traction de véhicules électriques à sources multiples : contrôle et gestion

    Abstract: Power electronics play a fundamental role and help to achieve the new goals of the automobiles in terms of energy economy and environment. The power electronic converters are the key elements which interface their power sources to the drivetrain of the electric vehicle (EV). They contribute to obtaining high efficiency and performance in power systems. However, traditional inverters such as voltage-source, current-source inverters and conventional two-stage inverters present some conceptual limitations. Consequently, many research efforts have been focused on developing new power electronic converters suitable for EVs application. In order to develop and enhance the performance of commercial multiple sources EV, this dissertation aims to select and to control the impedance source inverter and to provide management approaches for multiple sources EV traction system. A concise review of the main existing topologies of impedance source inverters has been presented. That enables to select QZSI (quasi-Z-source inverter) topology as promising architectures with better performance and reliability. The comparative study between the bidirectional conventional two-stage inverter and QZSI for EV applications has been presented. Furthermore, comparative study between different powertrain topologies regarding batteries aging index factors for an off-road EV has been explored. These studies permit to prove that QZSI topology represents a good candidate to be used in multi-source EV system. For improving the performance of QZSI applied to EVs, optimized fractional order PI (FOPI) controllers for QZSI is designed with the ant colony optimization algorithm (ACO-NM) to obtain more suitable aging performance index values for the battery. Moreover, this thesis proposes a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) for EVs to allow an efficient energy use of the battery for a longer distance coverage. Optimized FOPI controller and the finite control set model predictive controller (FCS-MPC) for HESS using bidirectional QZSI is applied for the multi-source EV. The flux-weakening controller has been designed to provide a correct operation with the maximum available torque at any speed within current and voltage limits. Simulation investigations are performed to verify the topologies studied and the efficacity of the proposed controller structure with the bidirectional QZSI. Furthermore, Opal-RT-based real-time simulation has been implemented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed HESS control strategy. The results confirm the EV performance enhancement with the addition of supercapacitors using the proposed control configuration, allowing the efficient use of battery energy with the reduction of root-mean-square value, the mean value, and the standard deviation by 57%, 59%, and 27%, respectively, of battery current compared to the battery-only based inverter.L'électronique de puissance joue un rôle fondamental et contribue à atteindre les nouveaux objectifs de l'automobile en termes d'économie d'énergie et d'environnement. Les convertisseurs d’électroniques de puissance sont considérés comme les éléments clés qui interfacent leurs sources d'alimentation avec la chaîne de traction du véhicule électrique (VE). Ils contribuent à obtenir une efficacité et des performances élevées dans les systèmes électriques. Cependant, les onduleurs traditionnels tels que les onduleurs à source de tension, les onduleurs à source de courant et les onduleurs conventionnels à deux étages qui constituent les onduleurs les plus couramment utilisés, présentent certaines limitations conceptuelles. Par conséquent, de nombreux efforts de recherche se sont concentrés sur le développement de nouveaux convertisseurs d’électroniques de puissance adaptés à l'application aux véhicules électriques. Afin de développer et d'améliorer les performances des VEs à sources multiples commerciales, cette thèse vise à sélectionner, contrôler l'onduleur à source impédante et fournit une approche de gestion pour l'application du système de traction du VE à sources multiples. Une revue concise des principales topologies existantes d'onduleur à source impédante a été présentée. Cela a permis de sélectionner la topologie de l’onduleur quasi-Z-source (QZS) comme architectures prometteuses pouvant être utilisées dans les véhicules électriques, avec de meilleures performances et de fiabilité. L'étude comparative entre l'onduleur bidirectionnel conventionnel à deux étages et de celui à QZS pour les applications du VE a été présentée. En outre, une étude comparative entre différentes topologies de groupes motopropulseurs concernant les facteurs d'indice de vieillissement des batteries pour une application du VE hors route a été explorée. Ces études ont permis de prouver que la topologie de l’onduleur QZS représente une bonne topologie candidate à utiliser dans un système de VE à sources multiples. Pour améliorer les performances de l’onduleur QZS appliquées aux véhicules électriques, des contrôleurs PI d'ordre fractionnaire (PIOF) optimisés pour l’onduleur QZS sont conçus avec l'algorithme de colonies de fourmis afin d'obtenir des valeurs d'indice de performance de vieillissement plus appropriées pour la batterie. De plus, cette thèse propose un système de stockage d'énergie hybride (SSEH) pour le VE afin de permettre une utilisation efficace de l'énergie de la batterie pour une couverture de distance plus longue et une extension de son autonomie. L’optimisation du contrôleur PIOF et du contrôleur par modèle prédictif d'ensemble de contrôle fini (CMP-ECF) pour l’onduleur QZS bidirectionnel a été appliqué au VE à sources multiples avec des approches de gestion appuyées par des règles. Le contrôleur d'affaiblissement de flux magnétique du moteur a été conçu pour fournir un fonctionnement correct avec le couple maximal disponible à n'importe quelle vitesse dans les limites de courant et de tension. Des investigations et des simulations sont effectuées pour vérifier les différentes topologies étudiées et l'efficacité de la structure de contrôleur proposée avec l’onduleur QZS bidirectionnel. De plus, une simulation en temps réel basée sur Opal-RT a été mise en œuvre pour valider l'efficacité de la stratégie de contrôle SSEH proposée. Les résultats confirment l'amélioration des performances du VE avec l'ajout d'un supercondensateur utilisant la configuration du contrôle proposée, permettant une utilisation efficace de l'énergie de la batterie avec une réduction de la valeur moyenne quadratique, de la valeur moyenne et de l'écart type de 57%, 59% et 27%, respectivement, du courant de la batterie par rapport à l'onduleur connecté directement à la batterie

    Artificial Neural Network-Based Gain-Scheduled State Feedback Speed Controller for Synchronous Reluctance Motor

    This paper focuses on designing a gain-scheduled (G-S) state feedback controller (SFC) for synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) speed control with non-linear inductance characteristics. The augmented model of the drive with additional state variables is introduced to assure precise control of selected state variables (i.e. angular speed and d-axis current). Optimal, non-constant coefficients of the controller are calculated using a linear-quadratic optimisation method. Non-constant coefficients are approximated using an artificial neural network (ANN) to assure superior accuracy and relatively low usage of resources during implementation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time when ANN-based gain-scheduled state feedback controller (G-S SFC) is applied for speed control of SynRM. Based on numerous simulation tests, including a comparison with a signum-based SFC, it is shown that the proposed solution assures good dynamical behaviour of SynRM drive and robustness against q-axis inductance, the moment of inertia and viscous friction fluctuations

    Model predictive MRAS estimator for sensorless induction motor drives

    Ph. D. ThesisThe project presents a novel model predictive reference adaptive system (MRAS) speed observer for sensorless induction motor drives applications. The proposed observer is based on the finite control set-model predictive control principle. The rotor position is calculated using a search-based optimization algorithm which ensures a minimum speed tuning error signal at each sampling period. This eliminates the need for a proportional integral (PI) controller which is conventionally employed in the adaption mechanism of MRAS observers. Extensive simulation and experimental tests have been carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed observer. Both the simulation and the experimental results show improved performance of the MRAS scheme in both open and closed-loop sensorless modes of operation at low speeds and with different loading conditions including regeneration. The proposed scheme also improves the system robustness against motor parameter variations and increases the maximum bandwidth of the speed loop controller. However, some of the experimental results show oscillations in the estimated rotor speed, especially at light loading conditions. Furthermore, due to the use of the voltage equation in the reference model, the scheme remains sensitive, to a certain extent, to the variations in the machine parameters. Therefore, to reduce rotor speed oscillations at light loading conditions, an adaptive filter is employed in the speed extraction mechanism, where an adaptation mechanism is proposed to adapt the filter time constant depending on the dynamic state of the system. Furthermore, a voltage compensating method is employed in the reference model of the MP-MRAS observer to address the problems associated with sensitivity to motor parameter variation. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated both experimentally and by simulation. Results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed scheme for sensorless speed control of IM drives

    A Visual Velocity Impedance Controller

    Successful object insertion systems allow the object to translate and rotate to accommodate contact forces. Compliant controllers are used in robotics to provide this accommodation. The impedance compliant controller is one of the more researched and well known compliant controllers used for assembly. The velocity filtered visual impedance controller is introduced as a compliant controller to improve upon the impedance controller. The velocity filtered impedance controller introduces a filter of the velocity impedance and a gain from the stiffness. The velocity impedance controller was found to be more stable over larger ranges of stiffness values than the position based impedance controller. This led to the velocity impedance controller being more accurate and stable with respect to external forces. The velocity impedance controller was also found to have a better compliant response when tested on various insertion geometries in various configurations, including a key insertion acting against gravity. Finally, a novel kinetic friction cone compliance model is introduced for the velocity impedance controller. It was determined that the new compliance model provided a more reliable insertion than the standard insertion model by increasing the error tolerance for failure

    Model Predictive Control Technique of Multilevel Inverter for PV Applications

    Renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, hydro, and biofuels, continue to gain popularity as alternatives to the conventional generation system. The main unit in the renewable energy system is the power conditioning system (PCS). It is highly desirable to obtain higher efficiency, lower component cost, and high reliability for the PCS to decrease the levelized cost of energy. This suggests a need for new inverter configurations and controls optimization, which can achieve the aforementioned needs. To achieve these goals, this dissertation presents a modified multilevel inverter topology for grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) system to achieve a lower cost and higher efficiency comparing with the existing system. In addition, this dissertation will also focus on model predictive control (MPC) which controls the modified multilevel topology to regulate the injected power to the grid. A major requirement for the PCS is harvesting the maximum power from the PV. By incorporating MPC, the performance of the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm to accurately extract the maximum power is improved for multilevel DC-DC converter. Finally, this control technique is developed for the quasi-z-source inverter (qZSI) to accurately control the DC link voltage, input current, and produce a high quality grid injected current waveform compared with the conventional techniques. This dissertation presents a modified symmetrical and asymmetrical multilevel DC-link inverter (MLDCLI) topology with less power switches and gate drivers. In addition, the MPC technique is used to drive the modified and grid connected MLDCLI. The performance of the proposed topology with finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) is verified by simulation and experimentally. Moreover, this dissertation introduces predictive control to achieve maximum power point for grid-tied PV system to quicken the response by predicting the error before the switching signal is applied to the converter. Using the modified technique ensures the iii system operates at maximum power point which is more economical. Thus, the proposed MPPT technique can extract more energy compared to the conventional MPPT techniques from the same amount of installed solar panel. In further detail, this dissertation proposes the FCS-MPC technique for the qZSI in PV system. In order to further improve the performance of the system, FCS-MPC with one step horizon prediction has been implemented and compared with the classical PI controller. The presented work shows the proposed control techniques outperform the ones of the conventional linear controllers for the same application. Finally, a new method of the parallel processing is presented to reduce the time processing for the MPC

    Contributions to Modulation and Control Algorithms for Multilevel Converters

    Las actuales tendencias de la red eléctrica han lanzado a la industria a la búsqueda de sistemas de generación, distribución y consumo de energía eléctrica más eficientes. Generación distribuida, reducción de componentes pasivos, líneas DC de alta tensión son, entre otras, las posibles líneas de investigación que están actualmente siendo consideradas como el futuro de la red eléctrica. Sin embargo, nada de esto sería posible si no fuera por los avances alcanzados en el campo de la electrónica de potencia. El trabajo aquí presentado comienza con una breve introducción a la electrónica de potencia, concretamente a los convertidores de potencia conectados a red, sus estrategias de control más comunes y enfoques ante redes desbalanceadas. A continuación, las contribuciones del autor sobre el control y modulación de una topología particular de convertidores, conocidos como convertidores multinivel, se presentan como el principal contenido de este trabajo. Este tipo de convertidores mejoran la eficiencia y ciertas prestaciones, en comparación con convertidores más tradicionales, a costa de una mayor complejidad en el control al incrementar la cantidad de los componentes hardware. A pesar de que existen numerosas topologías de convertidores multinivel y algunas de ellas son brevemente expuestas en este trabajo, la mayoría de las aportaciones están enfocadas para convertidores del tipo diode-clamped converter. Adicionalmente, se incluye una aportación para convertidores del tipo multinivel modular, y otra para convertidores en cascada. Se espera que el contenido de la introducción de este trabajo, junto a las contribuciones particulares para convertidores multinivel sirva de inspiración para futuros investigadores del campo

    An impedance control using a Finite Control Set Model Predictive Controller

    International audienceThe use of Electro-Mechanical Actuator to impact an environment is often criticized because of its presumably higher wear. This is due to the naturally high stiffness of the mechanical transmission, that leads to a hard-to-hard impact with the environment. This paper proposes a position-based impedance control using a Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control (FCS-MPC) controller to solve this problem. In comparison to a standard impedance controller, it can achieve the same impedance behavior in steady state, but the reduction of the mechanical losses and of the compression of the transmission are better during the transient. Furthermore, the trade-off between the mechanical losses and the transient time can be modified easily by changing the weighting factors of a cost function
