Faster Gossiping in Bidirectional Radio Networks with Large Labels
We consider unknown ad-hoc radio networks, when the underlying network is
bidirectional and nodes can have polynomially large labels. For this model, we
present a deterministic protocol for gossiping which takes rounds. This improves upon the previous best result for deterministic
gossiping for this model by [Gasienec, Potapov, Pagourtizis, Deterministic
Gossiping in Radio Networks with Large labels, ESA (2002)], who present a
protocol of round complexity for this problem. This
resolves open problem posed in [Gasienec, Efficient gossiping in radio
networks, SIROCCO (2009)], who cite bridging gap between lower and upper bounds
for this problem as an important objective. We emphasize that a salient feature
of our protocol is its simplicity, especially with respect to the previous best
known protocol for this problem
Randomized Initialization of a Wireless Multihop Network
Address autoconfiguration is an important mechanism required to set the IP
address of a node automatically in a wireless network. The address
autoconfiguration, also known as initialization or naming, consists to give a
unique identifier ranging from 1 to for a set of indistinguishable
nodes. We consider a wireless network where nodes (processors) are randomly
thrown in a square , uniformly and independently. We assume that the network
is synchronous and two nodes are able to communicate if they are within
distance at most of of each other ( is the transmitting/receiving
range). The model of this paper concerns nodes without the collision detection
ability: if two or more neighbors of a processor transmit concurrently at
the same time, then would not receive either messages. We suppose also that
nodes know neither the topology of the network nor the number of nodes in the
network. Moreover, they start indistinguishable, anonymous and unnamed. Under
this extremal scenario, we design and analyze a fully distributed protocol to
achieve the initialization task for a wireless multihop network of nodes
uniformly scattered in a square . We show how the transmitting range of the
deployed stations can affect the typical characteristics such as the degrees
and the diameter of the network. By allowing the nodes to transmit at a range
r= \sqrt{\frac{(1+\ell) \ln{n} \SIZE}{\pi n}} (slightly greater than the one
required to have a connected network), we show how to design a randomized
protocol running in expected time in order to assign a
unique number ranging from 1 to to each of the participating nodes
Message and time efficient multi-broadcast schemes
We consider message and time efficient broadcasting and multi-broadcasting in
wireless ad-hoc networks, where a subset of nodes, each with a unique rumor,
wish to broadcast their rumors to all destinations while minimizing the total
number of transmissions and total time until all rumors arrive to their
destination. Under centralized settings, we introduce a novel approximation
algorithm that provides almost optimal results with respect to the number of
transmissions and total time, separately. Later on, we show how to efficiently
implement this algorithm under distributed settings, where the nodes have only
local information about their surroundings. In addition, we show multiple
approximation techniques based on the network collision detection capabilities
and explain how to calibrate the algorithms' parameters to produce optimal

Superselectors: Efficient Constructions and Applications
We introduce a new combinatorial structure: the superselector. We show that
superselectors subsume several important combinatorial structures used in the
past few years to solve problems in group testing, compressed sensing,
multi-channel conflict resolution and data security. We prove close upper and
lower bounds on the size of superselectors and we provide efficient algorithms
for their constructions. Albeit our bounds are very general, when they are
instantiated on the combinatorial structures that are particular cases of
superselectors (e.g., (p,k,n)-selectors, (d,\ell)-list-disjunct matrices,
MUT_k(r)-families, FUT(k, a)-families, etc.) they match the best known bounds
in terms of size of the structures (the relevant parameter in the
applications). For appropriate values of parameters, our results also provide
the first efficient deterministic algorithms for the construction of such
structures
Deterministic broadcasting time with partial knowledge of the network
We consider the time of deterministic broadcasting in networks whose nodes have limited knowledge of network topology. Each node u knows only the part of the network within knowledge radius r from it, i.e., it knows the graph induced by all nodes at distance at most r from u. Apart from that, each node knows the maximum degree Delta of the network. One node of the network, called the source, has a message which has to reach all other nodes. We adopt the widely studied communication model called the one-way model in which, in every round, each node can communicate with at most one neighbor, and in each pair of nodes communicating in a given round, one can only send a message while the other can only receive it. This is the weakest of all store-and-forward models for point-to-point networks, and hence our algorithms work for other models as well, in at most the same time.We show trade-offs between knowledge radius and time of deterministic broadcasting, when the knowledge radius is small, i.e., when nodes are only aware of their close vicinity. While for knowledge radius 0, minimum broadcasting time is theta(e), where e is the number of edges in the network, broadcasting can be usually completed faster for positive knowledge radius. Our main results concern knowledge radius 1. We develop fast broadcasting algorithms and analyze their execution time. We also prove lower bounds on broadcasting time, showing that our algorithms are close to optimal
