    Peer-to-Peer-Technologie in Teilnehmerzugangsnetzen

    Get PDF

The Cloud Strikes Back: Investigating the Decentralization of IPFS

    Get PDF
Interplanetary Filesystem (IPFS) is one of the largest peer-to-peer filesystems in operation. The network is the default storage layer for Web3 and is being presented as a solution to the centralization of the web. In this paper, we present a large-scale, multi-modal measurement study of the IPFS network. We analyze the topology, the traffic, the content providers and the entry points from the classical Internet. Our measurements show significant centralization in the IPFS network and a high share of nodes hosted in the cloud. We also shed light on the main stakeholders in the ecosystem. We discuss key challenges that might disrupt continuing efforts to decentralize the Web and highlight multiple properties that are creating pressures toward centralization

Goddard Conference on Mass Storage Systems and Technologies, Volume 1

Copies of nearly all of the technical papers and viewgraphs presented at the Goddard Conference on Mass Storage Systems and Technologies held in Sep. 1992 are included. The conference served as an informational exchange forum for topics primarily relating to the ingestion and management of massive amounts of data and the attendant problems (data ingestion rates now approach the order of terabytes per day). Discussion topics include the IEEE Mass Storage System Reference Model, data archiving standards, high-performance storage devices, magnetic and magneto-optic storage systems, magnetic and optical recording technologies, high-performance helical scan recording systems, and low end helical scan tape drives. Additional topics addressed the evolution of the identifiable unit for processing purposes as data ingestion rates increase dramatically, and the present state of the art in mass storage technology

Learning plan networks in conversational video games

Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, School of Architecture and Planning, Program in Media Arts and Sciences, 2007.Includes bibliographical references (p. 121-123).We look forward to a future where robots collaborate with humans in the home and workplace, and virtual agents collaborate with humans in games and training simulations. A representation of common ground for everyday scenarios is essential for these agents if they are to be effective collaborators and communicators. Effective collaborators can infer a partner's goals and predict future actions. Effective communicators can infer the meaning of utterances based on semantic context. This thesis introduces a computational cognitive model of common ground called a Plan Network. A Plan Network is a statistical model that provides representations of social roles, object affordances, and expected patterns of behavior and language. I describe a methodology for unsupervised learning of a Plan Network using a multiplayer video game, visualization of this network, and evaluation of the learned model with respect to human judgment of typical behavior. Specifically, I describe learning the Restaurant Plan Network from data collected from over 5,000 players of an online game called The Restaurant Game.by Jeffrey David Orkin.S.M

Effects of upstream nozzle geometry on rectangular free jets

    Get PDF
This study is aimed at understanding the effects of changing the upstream nozzle geometry on the development of rectangular free jets. An existing converging rectangular nozzle with an exit aspect ratio of 4 and a circular inlet (AR4 nozzle) has been used as the basic configuration for this work. The study is primarily based on the results of numerical simulations wherein the internal geometry variation is accomplished by changing the inlet aspect ratio (AR,) and the length of the converging section, expressed as a ratio with respect to the length of the nozzle (called 'converging section ratio*, CSR); all the other parameters are kept constant. The results from LDA experiments done on the AR4 nozzle are presented and used as validation data for the CPD simulations. Analyses of the numerical results help in understanding the variation of the jet spreading for different combinations of AR, and CSR. Two parameters are identified for describing the jet development: the cross-over point (XC), defined as the location downstream of the exit where the jet half-velocity-widths (B) along the major and minor axes are equal, and the difference in the half-velocity-widths at 30 nozzle equivalent diameters (Dm) from the exit (AB30), to ascertain the occurrence of axis-switching. For a given AR, XC varies linearly with CSR; the variation of XC is non-linear with AR, for a constant CSR. The A1330 variation is non-linear with both AR, and CSR; the other variable being kept constant. The data obtained from the simulations are further used to propose two parametric models which can be used to predict the occurrence of axis-switching, within the scope of this work. The parametric models are validated and future work is proposed.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo
