Robust concurrent remote entanglement between two superconducting qubits
Entangling two remote quantum systems which never interact directly is an
essential primitive in quantum information science and forms the basis for the
modular architecture of quantum computing. When protocols to generate these
remote entangled pairs rely on using traveling single photon states as carriers
of quantum information, they can be made robust to photon losses, unlike
schemes that rely on continuous variable states. However, efficiently detecting
single photons is challenging in the domain of superconducting quantum circuits
because of the low energy of microwave quanta. Here, we report the realization
of a robust form of concurrent remote entanglement based on a novel microwave
photon detector implemented in the superconducting circuit quantum
electrodynamics (cQED) platform of quantum information. Remote entangled pairs
with a fidelity of are generated at Hz. Our experiment
opens the way for the implementation of the modular architecture of quantum
computation with superconducting qubits.Comment: Main paper: 7 pages, 4 figures; Appendices: 14 pages, 9 figure
Loss-tolerant parity measurement for distant quantum bits
We propose a scheme to measure the parity of two distant qubits, while
ensuring that losses on the quantum channel between them does not destroy
coherences within the parity subspaces. This capability enables deterministic
preparation of highly entangled qubit states whose fidelity is not limited by
the transmission loss. The key observation is that for a probe electromagnetic
field in a particular quantum state, namely a superposition of two coherent
states of opposite phases, the transmission loss stochastically applies a
near-unitary back-action on the probe state. This leads to a parity measurement
protocol where the main effect of the transmission losses is a decrease in the
measurement strength. By repeating the non-destructive (weak) parity
measurement, one achieves a high-fidelity entanglement in spite of a
significant transmission loss
Generalized Remote Preparation of Arbitrary -qubit Entangled States via Genuine Entanglements
Herein, we present a feasible, general protocol for quantum communication
within a network via generalized remote preparation of an arbitrary -qubit
entangled state designed with genuine tripartite
Greenberger--Horne--Zeilinger-type entangled resources. During the
implementations, we construct novel collective unitary operations; these
operations are tasked with performing the necessary phase transfers during
remote state preparations. We have distilled our implementation methods into a
five-step procedure, which can be used to faithfully recover the desired state
during transfer. Compared to previous existing schemes, our methodology
features a greatly increased success probability. After the consumption of
auxiliary qubits and the performance of collective unitary operations, the
probability of successful state transfer is increased four-fold and eight-fold
for arbitrary two- and three-qubit entanglements when compared to other methods
within the literature, respectively. We conclude this paper with a discussion
of the presented scheme for state preparation, including: success
probabilities, reducibility and generalizability.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures, 3 tables, Accepted to Entrop
Space station structures and dynamics test program
The design, construction, and operation of a low-Earth orbit space station poses unique challenges for development and implementation of new technology. The technology arises from the special requirement that the station be built and constructed to function in a weightless environment, where static loads are minimal and secondary to system dynamics and control problems. One specific challenge confronting NASA is the development of a dynamics test program for: (1) defining space station design requirements, and (2) identifying the characterizing phenomena affecting the station's design and development. A general definition of the space station dynamic test program, as proposed by MSFC, forms the subject of this report. The test proposal is a comprehensive structural dynamics program to be launched in support of the space station. The test program will help to define the key issues and/or problems inherent to large space structure analysis, design, and testing. Development of a parametric data base and verification of the math models and analytical analysis tools necessary for engineering support of the station's design, construction, and operation provide the impetus for the dynamics test program. The philosophy is to integrate dynamics into the design phase through extensive ground testing and analytical ground simulations of generic systems, prototype elements, and subassemblies. On-orbit testing of the station will also be used to define its capability
RAPID WEBGIS DEVELOPMENT FOR EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
The use of spatial data during emergency response and management helps to make faster and better decisions. Moreover spatial data should be as much updated as possible and easy to access. To face the challenge of rapid and updated data sharing the most efficient solution is largely considered the use of internet where the field of web mapping is constantly evolving. ITHACA (Information Technology for Humanitarian Assistance, Cooperation and Action) is a non profit association founded by Politecnico di Torino and SITI (Higher Institute for the Environmental Systems) as a joint project with the WFP (World Food Programme). The collaboration with the WFP drives some projects related to Early Warning Systems (i.e. flood and drought monitoring) and Early Impact Systems (e.g. rapid mapping and assessment through remote sensing systems). The Web GIS team has built and is continuously improving a complex architecture based entirely on Open Source tools. This architecture is composed by three main areas: the database environment, the server side logic and the client side logic. Each of them is implemented respecting the MCV (Model Controller View) pattern which means the separation of the different logic layers (database interaction, business logic and presentation). The MCV architecture allows to easily and fast build a Web GIS application for data viewing and exploration. In case of emergency data publication can be performed almost immediately as soon as data production is completed. The server side system is based on Python language and Django web development framework, while the client side on OpenLayers, GeoExt and Ext.js that manage data retrieval and user interface. The MCV pattern applied to javascript allows to keep the interface generation and data retrieval logic separated from the general application configuration, thus the server side environment can take care of the generation of the configuration file. The web application building process is data driven and can be considered as a view of the current architecture composed by data and data interaction tools. Once completely automated, the Web GIS application building process can be performed directly by the final user, that can customize data layers and controls to interact with the
Automatic detection of welding defects using the convolutional neural network
Quality control of welded joints is an important step before commissioning of various types of metal structures. The main obstacles to the commissioning of such facilities are the areas where the welded joint deviates from acceptable defective standards. The defects of welded joints include non-welded, foreign inclusions, cracks, pores, etc. The article describes an approach to the detection of the main types of defects of welded joints using a combination of convolutional neural networks and support vector machine methods. Convolutional neural networks are used for primary classification. The support vector machine is used to accurately define defect boundaries. As a preprocessing in our work, we use the methods of morphological filtration. A series of experiments confirms the high efficiency of the proposed method in comparison with pure CNN method for detecting defects
