Meeting Report for Mobile DNA 2010
An international conference on mobile DNA was held 24-28 April 2010 in Montreal, Canada. Sponsored by the American Society for Microbiology, the conference's goal was to bring together researchers from around the world who study transposition in diverse organisms using multiple experimental approaches. The meeting drew over 190 attendees and most contributed through poster presentations, invited talks and short talks selected from poster abstracts. The talks were organized into eight scientific sessions, which ranged in topic from the evolutionary dynamics of mobile genetic elements to transposition reaction mechanisms. Does selection of variety affect the exergy flow of agricultural production? Rice production system in Italy
Exergy analysis is receiving considerable attention as an approach to be applied for making decision toward moving to a sustainable and energy-efficient food supply chain. This study focuses on how selection of variety affects the exergy flow of a crop production system (rice production). In this regard, 9 varieties of rice were investigated in Italy, the largest rice producer in Europe. Sensitivity analysis of inputs consumption and the exergy management scenarios of the most sensitive inputs are also provided in this study. The results indicated that the cumulative exergy consumption value of the investigated rice varieties ranges from 11,682 MJha-1 to 15,541 MJha-1. Chemical fertilizers and diesel fuel consumption were the biggest contributors to the total energy consumption in all investigated varieties. Luna variety, with the cumulative degree of perfection value of 3.87 and renewability indicator of 0.74, was identified as the most exergy efficient variety of rice in Italy

Cnidofest 2018: the future is bright for cnidarian research.
The 2018 Cnidarian Model Systems Meeting (Cnidofest) was held September 6-9th at the University of Florida Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience in St. Augustine, FL. Cnidofest 2018, which built upon the momentum of Hydroidfest 2016, brought together research communities working on a broad spectrum of cnidarian organisms from North America and around the world. Meeting talks covered diverse aspects of cnidarian biology, with sessions focused on genomics, development, neurobiology, immunology, symbiosis, ecology, and evolution. In addition to interesting biology, Cnidofest also emphasized the advancement of modern research techniques. Invited technology speakers showcased the power of microfluidics and single-cell transcriptomics and demonstrated their application in cnidarian models. In this report, we provide an overview of the exciting research that was presented at the meeting and discuss opportunities for future research
World Society for Virology first international conference: Tackling global virus epidemics
This communication summarizes the presentations given at the 1st international conference of the World Society for Virology (WSV) held virtually during 16–18 June 2021, under the theme of tackling global viral epidemics. The purpose of this biennial meeting is to foster international collaborations and address important viral epidemics in different hosts. The first day included two sessions exclusively on SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. The other two days included one plenary and three parallel sessions each. Last not least, 16 sessions covered 140 on-demand submitted talks. In total, 270 scientists from 49 countries attended the meeting, including 40 invited keynote speakers.Peer reviewe
