Congress UPV Proceedings of the 21ST International Conference on Science and Technology Indicators
This is the book of proceedings of the 21st Science and Technology Indicators Conference that took place
in València (Spain) from 14th to 16th of September 2016.
The conference theme for this year, ‘Peripheries, frontiers and beyond’ aimed to study the development and
use of Science, Technology and Innovation indicators in spaces that have not been the focus of current indicator
development, for example, in the Global South, or the Social Sciences and Humanities.
The exploration to the margins and beyond proposed by the theme has brought to the STI Conference an
interesting array of new contributors from a variety of fields and geographies.
This year’s conference had a record 382 registered participants from 40 different countries, including 23
European, 9 American, 4 Asia-Pacific, 4 Africa and Near East. About 26% of participants came from outside
of Europe.
There were also many participants (17%) from organisations outside academia including governments (8%),
businesses (5%), foundations (2%) and international organisations (2%). This is particularly important in a
field that is practice-oriented.
The chapters of the proceedings attest to the breadth of issues discussed. Infrastructure, benchmarking
and use of innovation indicators, societal impact and mission oriented-research, mobility and careers, social
sciences and the humanities, participation and culture, gender, and altmetrics, among others.
We hope that the diversity of this Conference has fostered productive dialogues and synergistic ideas and
made a contribution, small as it may be, to the development and use of indicators that, being more inclusive,
will foster a more inclusive and fair world

Inward and Outward FDI Country Profiles, Second Edition
This second edition contains a series of 77 standardized country profiles dealing with the inward and outward foreign direct investment (FDI) performance of 40 economies. The profiles have been peer-reviewed by a global network of experts. The publication is intended to contribute to the analysis of trends in foreign direct investment and policy issues related to them. More specifically, the individual profiles discuss FDI trends and developments (country-level developments, the corporate players); effects of the recent global crises; and the policy scene. Each profile contains a standard set of tables, including on FDI stocks and flows, sectoral and geographical FDI distributions, the largest M&As and greenfield investments, the principal foreign affiliates (for inward FDI), and the principal multinational enterprises (for outward FDI). The standardized template used to produce the profiles allows cross-country comparisons. The volume is meant to be a reference tool for anyone interested in foreign direct investment

The book is a result of joint efforts by the research group “Multilingualism and Interculturalism in the Post-Literacy Era”. The research results are presented in the form of sections that consistently reveal the features of modern media culture; its contradictory manifestations associated with both positive and negative consequences of mass media use; the positive role of new media in education during the COVID‑19 pandemic; creative potential of contemporary art and mediation, contemporary art and media environment. The collective monograph will be of interest to researchers in media culture, media education, media art and tools of social networks and new media in modern education, primarily in teaching foreign languages and Russian as a foreign language, in the professional education of journalists and specialists in the field of media communications.Published with the support of RFBR grant 20‑011‑22081 “The Fifth International Research Conference “Communication trends in the post-literacy era: polylingualism, multimodality and multiculturalism as prerequisites for new creativity”

Tesis inédita de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Facultad de Geografía e Historia, leída el 28-01-2021In the late eighteenth to the nineteenth century, Manila first witnessed its first phase of intensive urbanization and development bolstered by the social and economic transformations and the ballooning of its population. The heightened city movement and rapid city growth produced varied problems of sanitation, order, and control and posed challenges to the administration of the colonial capital. Moreover, the spread of infectious diseases and waves of cholera epidemic aggravated the city´s condition. During this time, increased public works were introduced by the Spanish colonial government in Manila to bring solutions to the growing urban needs and problems of the colony...Desde finales del siglo XVIII al siglo XIX, Manila experimentó su primera fase de urbanización y desarrollo intensivo sostenido por las transformaciones socioeconómicas y el aumento de su población.
