Alleviating a form of electric vehicle range anxiety through On-Demand vehicle access
On-demand vehicle access is a method that can be used to reduce types of
range anxiety problems related to planned travel for electric vehicle owners.
Using ideas from elementary queueing theory, basic QoS metrics are defined to
dimension a shared fleet to ensure high levels of vehicle access. Using
mobility data from Ireland, it is argued that the potential cost of such a
system is very low
Simulation of Electric Vehicles Combining Structural and Functional Approaches
In this paper the construction of a model that represents the behavior of an Electric Vehicle is described. Both the mechanical and the electric traction systems are represented using Multi-Bond Graph structural approach suited to model large scale physical systems. Then the model of the controllers, represented with a functional approach, is included giving rise to an integrated model which exploits the advantages of both approaches. Feasibility of Using Discriminate Pricing Schemes for Energy Trading in Smart Grid
This paper investigates the feasibility of using a discriminate pricing
scheme to offset the inconvenience that is experienced by an energy user (EU)
in trading its energy with an energy controller in smart grid. The main
objective is to encourage EUs with small distributed energy resources (DERs),
or with high sensitivity to their inconvenience, to take part in the energy
trading via providing incentive to them with relatively higher payment at the
same time as reducing the total cost to the energy controller. The proposed
scheme is modeled through a two-stage Stackelberg game that describes the
energy trading between a shared facility authority (SFA) and EUs in a smart
community. A suitable cost function is proposed for the SFA to leverage the
generation of discriminate pricing according to the inconvenience experienced
by each EU. It is shown that the game has a unique sub-game perfect equilibrium
(SPE), under the certain condition at which the SFA's total cost is minimized,
and that each EU receives its best utility according to its associated
inconvenience for the given price. A backward induction technique is used to
derive a closed form expression for the price function at SPE, and thus the
dependency of price on an EU's different decision parameters is explained for
the studied system. Numerical examples are provided to show the beneficial

Modeling and Control for Smart Grid Integration of Solar/Wind Energy Conversion System
Performance optimization, system reliability and operational efficiency are key characteristics of smart grid systems. In this paper a novel model of smart grid-connected PV/WT hybrid system is developed. It comprises photovoltaic array, wind turbine, asynchronous (induction) generator, controller and converters. The model is implemented using MATLAB/SIMULINK software package. Perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm is used for maximizing the generated power based on maximum power point tracker (MPPT) implementation. The dynamic behavior of the proposed model is examined under different operating conditions. Solar irradiance, temperature and wind speed data is gathered from a grid connected, 28.8kW solar power system located in central Manchester. Real-time measured parameters are used as inputs for the developed system. The proposed model and its control strategy offer a proper tool for smart grid performance optimization
Overview of Main Electric Subsystems of Zero-Emission Vehicles
The rapid growth of the electric vehicle market has stimulated the attention of power electronics and electric machine experts in order to find increasingly efficient solutions to the demands of this application. The constraints of space, weight, reliability, performance, and autonomy for the power train of the electric vehicle (EV) have increased the attention of scientific research in order to find more and more appropriate technological solutions. In this chapter, it proposes a focus on the main subsystems that make a zero-emission vehicle (ZEV), examining current features and topological configurations proposed in the literature. This analysis is preliminary to the various electric vehicle architectures proposed in the final paragraph. In particular, the electric drive represents the core of the electric vehicle propulsion. It is realized by different subsystems that have a single mission: ensure the requested power/energy based on the operating condition.
