    Mobile health applications digital evidence taxonomy with knowledge sharing approach for digital forensics readiness

    M-health is the current application that capable to monitor and detect human biological change and used the Internet as a platform to transfer and receive the data from the cloud providers. However, the advancement of Internet of Things (IoT) technology poses a great challenge for digital forensic experts in order to preserve, acquire and analyse digital evidence. Digital evidence taxonomy is one technique in digital forensics that facilitates digital forensics readiness and integration with knowledge sharing approach is necessary to allow digital forensics experts to share their knowledge. Therefore, this research was carried out that consists three phases, namely (1) initial phase, (2) intermediate phase and (3) final phase. In the initial phase, a systematic literature review was conducted to identify any potential gaps from the existing studies. Subsequently, digital evidence taxonomy in the IoT forensics layers was adopted, which consisted of three artefact categories to represent the IoT forensics layers. In the intermediate phase, 34 top rating m-health apps were used as a case study to validate the digital evidence taxonomy. From the analysis of the result, various types of information for forensic investigation were acquired, such as type of outdoor activity, activity timestamp, client IP address and date accessed. In the final phase, the M-Health Digital Evidence Taxonomy System (MDETS) was developed as a proof of concept to demonstrate the integration of digital evidence taxonomy with the knowledge-sharing approach to facilitate digital forensic readiness. Interviews were used as the instrument tool to evaluate knowledge sharing in terms of people, process and technology elements in enabling digital forensic readiness. The results from the interviews support that knowledge sharing facilitates digital forensic readiness in terms of people, process and technology elements. As a conclusion, the integration of digital evidence taxonomy with the knowledge-sharing approach gives the opportunity for the digital forensic community to enhance the existing approach or procedure to increase the findings of a digital forensic investigation and make digital forensic readiness more proactive within the organisation

This study focuses on knowledge sharing practices in university libraries with special reference to the Unisa Library. The aim of the research project was therefore to establish whether the Unisa Library is receptive to knowledge sharing practices,whether there is a need for knowledge management and more specifically for a knowledge sharing strategy. Thus the objective was to establish the extent to which knowledge sharing practices occur among professional library staff, albeit unknowingly, in their daily activities.The study employed both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. A questionnaire was delivered in person to professional librarians while interviews were conducted with managers from the various directorates of the library. The questions explored the knowledge sharing practices, including challenges within the library. They were based on internationally accepted knowledge management themes which include the role of leadership, organisational structure, organisational culture,technology, processes in enabling the effective practice of knowledge management

    Collaboration and communication via wiki : The experience of Curtin University Library and Information Service

    The idea behind the wiki, a website that can be created and edited by many different users, can sometimes be difficult to come to terms with. Unlike traditional content management and web authoring systems, the wiki is “egalitarian”, enabling all users to have access to its writing and publishing features. Within the organisational context, the wiki is emerging as one of the more flexible, dynamic and simple yet powerful online tools available for knowledge sharing and collaboration. Its version control and change tracking capabilities can also facilitate efficient record keeping and promote transparency. This paper describes Curtin University Library’s experience of designing, developing and implementing a wiki for enhancing communication within and across teams, as well as for collaborating on cross-sectional projects. The challenges of training library staff in using this new technology are discussed. Some of the advantages and disadvantages of wiki technology, as experienced in an academic library environment, are also examined

    Growing the future of agriculture: an examination of knowledge-sharing and community building in the fresh produce and floral council

    This study examines knowledge-sharing practices within a community of practice (CoP) through a case study of the Fresh Produce and Floral Council (FPFC). The study sought to investigate how the FPFC promoted agricultural knowledge and expertise, impacted its members\u27 social relationships and knowledge-sharing practices, communicated clear roles and expectations, and provided valuable and accessible resources. A mixed-methods approach was employed to investigate the research questions, which involved conducting a survey and utilizing descriptive statistics, frequencies, and Spearman correlations to analyze both the Likert scale and open-ended responses. The findings suggested that the FPFC has a knowledge-sharing culture promoting active participation and collaboration among members, with room for improvement in knowledge-sharing practices. Additionally, FPFC positively impacts members\u27 social relationships and prioritizes knowledge-sharing, with a need for further education and promotion of these benefits. Also, clear communication of roles and expectations is essential in any CoP. There may be a need to further clarify the community\u27s goals and purpose to ensure member engagement and alignment. Finally, members perceived FPFC\u27s resources as valuable and relevant, but there is a need for improvement in their accessibility and availability. Overall, the study provided valuable insights for developing new methods of knowledge-sharing and onboarding within the agriculture industry to address the aging crisis and ensure the industry\u27s future. Thus, it was essential to explore the value of knowledge-sharing practices and technology for communication within the community to contribute to developing virtual CoPs enabling knowledge transfer and relationship building for agriculture professionals

    Formal knowledge sharing in medium-to-large organizations: Constraints, enablers and alignment

    This research considers one of the most important of resources - knowledge. There is a widespread view that knowledge is important to organizations and this has led to the study of knowledge management. There are a plethora of definitions of knowledge and knowledge management, but knowledge sharing is recognised as being of fundamental importance. The literature shows the success of knowledge sharing is not only affected by factors including culture, management, technology, processes and structure but, more importantly, it is affected by how these factors interact and fit together. However there is little literature on alignment or strategic fit in knowledge sharing. This research adds to the literature by investigating the enablers and constraints of knowledge sharing and the possible effects of alignment. An interpretive approach using case studies triangulated with a survey is adopted, involving semi-structured interviews with 23 people across five organizations. The findings suggest that significant top management support and a strategy for knowledge sharing are necessary precursors of effective knowledge sharing. In the organizations which lacked this, there is little to encourage people to share and almost none of these organizations measured well on any aspect of knowledge sharing. There are widely varying uses of technology, but many are aimed at sharing data or information. Fewer uses of technology are geared to enabling or encouraging the communication necessary for knowledge sharing. The lack of senior management support may prevent any significant internal or external alignment so a possible approach to strategic fit for knowledge sharing is that strategy has to come first (and the management support that goes with it) and that this should lead to the embedding of the necessary behaviours for knowledge sharing.     An assessment of the enabling role of information technology in knowledge sharing and retention in academic libraries: a case study of Makerere University Library

    The changes brought about by the dynamic information technology (IT) environment today are a clear signal to academic libraries to move towards adoption of IT developments in knowledge sharing and retention in order to remain competitive. This is because knowledge sharing widens knowledge bases which promotes reuse and retention of knowledge. Unfortunately, knowledge sharing and retention have not been fully adopted by academic libraries which leaves a lot to be desired. This study, therefore, sought to assess the enabling role of information technology in knowledge sharing and retention in academic libraries with a case study of Makerere University Library. The study adopted a qualitative research approach which lends itself to the interpretive research paradigm and employed interviews and document content analysis as the methods of data collection. A total of six IT staff and six librarians were purposively selected based to avail information for the study. The major findings of the study revealed that there are various information technologies in Makerere University Library with minimal application of such technologies in knowledge sharing and retention because there is no formal recognition of such knowledge management initiatives. The study, therefore, mainly recommends formal recognition of knowledge sharing and retention as well as continual staff training in the application of IT in knowledge sharing and retention.Ope

    Appropriation of social media for fostering effective tacit knowledge sharing: developing conceptual model

    With the rising popularity of social media in the past few years, several researches ratiocinate that this type of interactive and collaborative technology could be a beneficial tool for the sharing of tacit knowledge. Nevertheless, very few literatures have tackled the subject of how social media could facilitate tacit knowledge sharing among medical practitioners, and what are its contributions in the area. Thus, the factors that drive individuals to share tacit knowledge need to be investigated further and included in literature. Through a systematic literature review, this study proposes seven enabling conditions which could potentially facilitate the sharing of tacit knowledge. TAM was applied as a novelty in this study in investigating the factors influencing knowledge sharing via social media, whilst taking into account the mediation effects of Attitude in social media usage. This study uncovered an important correlation between virtual settings and the conversion of tacit knowledge, which affects organizational members who are not co-located physically but have a crucial need for sharing information

    P2P Web service based system for supporting decision-making in cellular manufacturing scheduling

    With the increase of the Internet and Virtual Enterprises (VEs), interfaces for web systems and automated services are becoming an emergent necessity. In this paper we propose a Peer-to-peer (P2P) web-based decision-support system for enabling access to different manufacturing scheduling methods, which can be remotely available and accessible from a distributed knowledge base. The XML-based modeling and communication is applied to manufacturing scheduling. Therefore, manufacturing scheduling problems and methods are modeled using XML. The proposed P2P web-based system works as web services, under the SOAP protocol. The system’s distributed knowledge base enables sharing information about scheduling problems and corresponding solving methods in a widened search space, through a scheduling community, integrating a VE. Running several methods enables different results for a given problem, consequently, contributing for a better decision-making. An important aspect is that this knowledge base can be easily and continuously updated by any contributor through the VE.
