In a recent paper (Phys. Rev. A 90, 022316 (2014) ), Goyeneche et al. established a link between the combinatorial notion of orthogonal arrays and k-uniform states and present open issue. (B) Find for what N there are 3-uniform states of N-qubits. In this paper, we demonstrate the existence of 3-uniform states of N-qubits for N=11,..,15"

Low-Cost QCM Sensor System for Screening Semen Samples

    Get PDF
Artificial insemination is a well-established part of modern agricultural practice. A viable semen sample is judged by the total number of spermatozoa (sperm) in the sample and the motility of the sperm. In this paper, we report the development of a reusable measurement cell and electronics for screening semen samples based on the Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) and Universal Frequency to Digital Converter (UFDC-1) to produce a low-cost sensor system. After introducing the semen sample at one end of the measurement cell, sperm swim down a channel before causing a frequency change on the QCM. Data is presented that shows the different frequency changes using a commercial frequency counter caused by porcine semen samples, one two days old and one twenty one days old. Similar data is presented for a motile semen sample measurement using the low-cost UFDC-1

Electrical properties of individual tin oxide nanowires contacted to platinum electrodes

    Get PDF
A simple and useful experimental alternative to field-effect transistors for measuring electrical properties free electron concentration nd, electrical mobility , and conductivity in individual nanowires has been developed. A combined model involving thermionic emission and tunneling through interface states is proposed to describe the electrical conduction through the platinum-nanowire contacts, fabricated by focused ion beam techniques. Current-voltage I-V plots of single nanowires measured in both two- and four-probe configurations revealed high contact resistances and rectifying characteristics. The observed electrical behavior was modeled using an equivalent circuit constituted by a resistance placed between two back-to-back Schottky barriers, arising from the metal-semiconductor-metal M-S-M junctions. Temperature-dependent I-V measurements revealed effective Schottky barrier heights up to BE= 0.4 eV

Kondo effect in a one-electron double quantum dot: Oscillations of the Kondo current in a weak magnetic field

We present transport measurements of the Kondo effect in a double quantum dot charged with only one or two electrons, respectively. For the one electron case we observe a surprising quasi-periodic oscillation of the Kondo conductance as a function of a small perpendicular magnetic field |B| \lesssim 50mT. We discuss possible explanations of this effect and interpret it by means of a fine tuning of the energy mismatch of the single dot levels of the two quantum dots. The observed degree of control implies important consequences for applications in quantum information processing
