Editors: Peter Fox-Penner, PhD, Z. Justin Ren, PhD, David O. JermainA decade after the launch of the contemporary global electric vehicle (EV) market, most cities face a major challenge preparing for rising EV demand. Some cities, and the leaders who shape them, are meeting and even leading demand for EV infrastructure. This book aggregates deep, groundbreaking research in the areas of urban EV deployment for city managers, private developers, urban planners, and utilities who want to understand and lead change

Optimal Charging Strategy for EVs with Batteries at Different States of Health

    Get PDF
The electric vehicle (EV) is targeted as an efficient method of decreasing CO2 emission and reducing dependence on fossil fuel. Compared with filling up the internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, the EV power charging time is usually long. However,to the best of our knowledge, the current charging strategy does not consider the battery state of health (SOH). It is noted that a high charging current rate may damage the battery life. Motivated by this, an optimal charging strategy is proposed in the present paper, providing several optimal charging options taking into account the EV battery health, trying to prevent ‘abused battery utilization’ happening

Hybrid or Electric Vehicles? A Real Options Perspective

    Get PDF
This paper investigates the decision of an automaker concerning the alternative promotion of a hybrid vehicle (HV) and a full electric vehicle (EV). We evaluate the HV project by considering the option to change promotion from the HV to the EV in the future. The results not only extend previous findings concerning American options on multiple assets, but also include several new implications. One notable observation is that the increased market demand for EVs can accelerate the promotion of the HV because of the embedded option.real options, American options on multiple assets, exercise region, alternative projects, hybrid and electric vehicles.

Sensitivity Analysis of a Bidirectional Wireless Charger for EV

    Get PDF
Bidirectional chargers are required to fully integrate Electric Vehicle (EV) into the smart grids. Additionally, wireless chargers ease the charge/discharge process of the EV batteries so that they are becoming more popular to fulfill a V2G scenario. When considering the load of wireless chargers, it is a requirement to know the real output power that these systems offer. The designed output power may differ from the real one as components suffer from tolerance. This paper defines six sensitivity factors to model the severity of the effects of tolerance into the output power. To do so, an electric circuit analysis is used and a mathematical formulation is derived. The six sensitivity factors are computed for a laboratory prototype.Universidad de Málaga. Electric vehicle chassis dynamometer test methods at JPL and their correlation to track tests

    Get PDF
Early in its electric vehicle (EV) test program, JPL recognized that EV test procedures were too vague and too loosely defined to permit much meaningful data to be obtained from the testing. Therefore, JPL adopted more stringent test procedures and chose the chassis dynamometer rather than the track as its principal test technique. Through the years, test procedures continued to evolve towards a methodology based on chassis dynamometers which would exhibit good correlation with track testing. Based on comparative dynamometer and track test results on the ETV-1 vehicle, the test methods discussed in this report demonstrate a means by which excellent track-to-dynamometer correlation can be obtained
