    A SOA-driven business intelligence architecture

    A business intelligence architecture comprises of different unique components to collect, transform, analyze and present the structured and unstructured raw data in simple formats to assist decision makers in making timely decisions. The introduction of service-oriented architecture (SOA) enables reusable services which are accessible over a network on demand. However, there is still a lack of academic literatures on the business intelligence architecture with service-oriented concept. Based upon various references on BI architectures from major vendors, a novel BI architecture that is built on service-oriented concept is presented and described in this paper. The proposed service-oriented architecture enables enterprises to deploy a more agile, flexible, cheaper, reusable, reliable and responsive BI applications in supporting decision making process.<br /

    The Use of Olap Reporting Technology to Improve Patient Care Services Decision Making Within the University Health Center

    The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that it is feasible for the student health center to leverage existing clinical data in a data warehouse by using OLAP reporting in order to improve patient care and health care services decision making. Historically, University health care centers have relied mainly on operational data sources for critical health care decision making. These sources of data do not contain enough information to allow health officials to recognize trends or predict how future changes in health care services might vastly improve overall heath care. Four proof of concept artifacts are constructed through design science research methodology, and a feasibility study is presented to build the case for the adoption of OLAP reporting technology. The study concludes that it is feasible to implement an OLAP reporting infrastructure at the student health center if physicians, clinical staff, and administration clearly define the need for the new technology, develop proper data extraction, loading, and transformation strategy, and adequately provide project management and data warehouse design towards the implementation of the solution

    Information technology applications that support decision-making processes and problem- solving activities have thrived and evolved over the past few decades. This evolution led to many different types of Decision Support System (DSS) including Intelligent Decision Support System (IDSS). IDSS include domain knowledge, modeling, and analysis systems to provide users the capability of intelligent assistance which significantly improves the quality of decision making. IDSS includes knowledge management component which stores and manages a new class of emerging AI tools such as machine learning and case-based reasoning and learning. These tools can extract knowledge from previous data and decisions which give DSS capability to support repetitive, complex real-time decision making.  This paper attempts to assess the role of IDSS in decision making. First, it explores the definitions and understanding of DSS and IDSS. Second, this paper illustrates a framework of IDSS along with various tools and technologies that support it.     In an increasingly competitive market, making well-informed decisions requires the analysis of a wide range of heterogeneous, large and complex data. This paper focuses on the emerging field of graph warehousing. Graphs are widespread structures that yield a great expressive power. They are used for modeling highly complex and interconnected domains, and efficiently solving emerging big data application. This paper presents the current status and open challenges of graph BI and analytics, and motivates the need for new warehousing frameworks aware of the topological nature of graphs. We survey the topics of graph modeling, management, processing and analysis in graph warehouses. Business Intelligence by the main definition is the ability to extract analyze and manage the data through which an organization gain a competitive advantage. Before using this approach, it’s important to decide on which computing system it will base on, considering the volume of data, business context of the organization and technologies requirements of the market. In the last 10 years, the popularity of cloud computing increased and divided the computing Systems into On-Premises and cloud. The cloud benefits are based on providing scalability, availability and fewer costs. On another hand, traditional On-Premises provides independence of software configuration, control over data and high security. The final decision as to which computing paradigm to follow in the organization it’s not an easy task as well as depends on the business context of the organization, and the characteristics of the performance of the current On-Premises systems in business processes. In this case, Business Intelligence functions and requires in-depth analysis in order to understand if cloud computing technologies could better perform in those processes than traditional systems. The objective of this internship is to conduct a comparative study between 2 computing systems in Business Intelligence routine functions. The study will compare the On-Premises Business Intelligence Based on Oracle Architecture with Cloud Business Intelligence based on Google Cloud Services. A comparative study will be conducted through participation in activities and projects in the Business Intelligence department, of a company that develops software digital solutions to serve the telecommunications market for 12 months, as an internship student in the 2nd year of a master’s degree in Information Management, with a specialization in Knowledge Management and Business Intelligence at Nova Information Management School (NOVA IMS)

We will show that used independently these tools offer reduced services, but when interconnected, they become a very powerful tool for command and control.     CLINICAL DATA WAREHOUSE: A REVIEW

    Clinical decisions are crucial because they are related to human lives. Thus, managers and decision makers inthe clinical environment seek new solutions that can support their decisions. A clinical data warehouse (CDW) is animportant solution that is used to achieve clinical stakeholders’ goals by merging heterogeneous data sources in a centralrepository and using this repository to find answers related to the strategic clinical domain, thereby supporting clinicaldecisions. CDW implementation faces numerous obstacles, starting with the data sources and ending with the tools thatview the clinical information. This paper presents a systematic overview of purpose of CDWs as well as the characteristics;requirements; data sources; extract, transform and load (ETL) process; security and privacy concerns; design approach;architecture; and challenges and difficulties related to implementing a successful CDW. PubMed and Google Scholarare used to find papers related to CDW. Among the total of 784 papers, only 42 are included in the literature review. Thesepapers are classified based on five perspectives, namely methodology, data, system, ETL tool and purpose, to findinsights related to aspects of CDW. This review can contribute answers to questions related to CDW and providerecommendations for implementing a successful CDW
