    Ethernet - a survey on its fields of application

    During the last decades, Ethernet progressively became the most widely used local area networking (LAN) technology. Apart from LAN installations, Ethernet became also attractive for many other fields of application, ranging from industry to avionics, telecommunication, and multimedia. The expanded application of this technology is mainly due to its significant assets like reduced cost, backward-compatibility, flexibility, and expandability. However, this new trend raises some problems concerning the services of the protocol and the requirements for each application. Therefore, specific adaptations prove essential to integrate this communication technology in each field of application. Our primary objective is to show how Ethernet has been enhanced to comply with the specific requirements of several application fields, particularly in transport, embedded and multimedia contexts. The paper first describes the common Ethernet LAN technology and highlights its main features. It reviews the most important specific Ethernet versions with respect to each application field’s requirements. Finally, we compare these different fields of application and we particularly focus on the fundamental concepts and the quality of service capabilities of each proposal

    Advancement of Monitoring Scheme in FTTH-PON Using Access Control System (ACS)

    This paper proposes a new developed system named Access Control System (ACS) which is designed to enhance the monitoring, scalability and survivability of Passive Optical Network (PON) toward the implementation of full & Complete edition of Fiber-to-the Network (FTTH) network. The system automatically identifies faults and controls each optical fiber line to provide the restoration against failure in the drop region of PON downwardly from optical line terminal at the central office to the optical network unit of the subscriber. ACS manages the Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) troubleshooting wavelength to enable the status of each line which can be displayed onto one single screen in the central office.     Metro Area Network Single Link Failure- Fast Spanning Tree Reconnection

    Due to Affordability, ease of maintenance and ubiquity, Ethernet has become a preferred technology to be deployed in to LAN, MAN and WAN networks. Even though Ethernet has being used widely for switched communication it is not meet requirement for Metro Area Networks in terms of network resilience. In this paper, author propose the fast spanning tree re-connection formula, especially for Metro Area Ethernet networks to manage any single link failure, and it has most important feature of fast recovery, backup capacity grantees and ease of fast recovery. If in case of link failure on a spanning tree, a distributed failure recovery protocol is activated to rebuild the broken spanning tree. This is re-connecting the link but not a spanning tree. Author presents the details of the protocol, which including failure notification and forwarding table reconfiguration manual. The Integer linear programming (ILP) is formulated to reconnect-links as it pre-configured. The result of optimization gives the remark of lower implementation cost, fast and effective spanning tree reconnection mechanism can achieve better performance than other resilient technique for Metro Ethernet Network

It addresses two main issues: compatibility between MPLS networks and different Sub-wavelength technologies, and scalability of the OAM flows across the whole network. The case for OPST Sub-wavelength technology in the data plane has been studied extensively, however this is the first study on a methodology to scale the number of OAM flows in an E2E scenario combing both subwavelength and MPLS switching domains. Finally the inter-carrier issue in E2E OAM is also explored
