Integrating identity-based cryptography in IMS service authentication

Nowadays, the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is a promising research field. Many ongoing works related to the security and the performances of its employment are presented to the research community. Although, the security and data privacy aspects are very important in the IMS global objectives, they observe little attention so far. Secure access to multimedia services is based on SIP and HTTP digest on top of IMS architecture. The standard deploys AKA-MD5 for the terminal authentication. The third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) provided Generic Bootstrapping Architecture (GBA) to authenticate the subscriber before accessing multimedia services over HTTP. In this paper, we propose a new IMS Service Authentication scheme using Identity Based cryptography (IBC). This new scheme will lead to better performances when there are simultaneous authentication requests using Identity-based Batch Verification. From transnational to multinational education: emerging trends in international higher education

Transnational, or cross-border, education is attracting increasing interest, as universities extend their reach across borders to open up huge new markets. Based on analysis of case students of transnational partnerships, this paper argues that the current definition of transnational education, namely that the degree-awarding university is in a different country from the students being educated, fails to do justice to the multidimensional nature of contemporary transnational partnerships. It argues that the location of the degree-awarding body is, increasingly, of peripheral interest. Of much greater interest is the multinational nature of transnational providers’ stakeholders – the owners, managers, staff, students and regulatory and accrediting bodies. It concludes that it is time to retitle the leading edge in the internationalisati on of higher education as 'multinational education'

A distributed key establishment scheme for wireless mesh networks using identity-based cryptography

In this paper, we propose a secure and efficient key establishment scheme designed with respect to the unique requirements of Wireless Mesh Networks. Our security model is based on Identity-based key establishment scheme without the utilization of a trusted authority for private key operations. Rather, this task is performed by a collaboration of users; a threshold number of users come together in a coalition so that they generate the private key. We performed simulative performance evaluation in order to show the effect of both the network size and the threshold value. Results show a tradeoff between resiliency and efficiency: increasing the threshold value or the number of mesh nodes also increases the resiliency but negatively effects the efficiency. For threshold values smaller than 8 and for number of mesh nodes in between 40 and 100, at least 90% of the mesh nodes can compute their private keys within at most 70 seconds. On the other hand, at threshold value 8, an increase in the number of mesh nodes from 40 to 100 results in 25% increase in the rate of successful private key generations

Coalition-building Learning Document: Synthesised from the Evaluation of the Coalition Against the Deportation of Irish Children CADIC

The CADIC Coalition has just completed an evaluation to document and assess the work of the CADIC Coalition campaign through the eyes of its members. In doing such an evaluation, we believe the Coalition's work will be able to contribute to future advocacy efforts and cross-sectoral campaigns for issues of social justice. The CADIC Coalition's remit, on the rights of families comprised of Irish children, their migrant parents and other close family members, has meant concentrated efforts towards win-able propositions, and their impact, and it has harnessed the unique, collective expertise, commitment and passion of a diverse group of individuals and organisations. National, regional and local NGOs, spanning human rights, legal aid, children's rights, faith-based migrant support and other migrant and immigrant support organisations came together and brought pressure on Government and State agencies to review their policies and to uphold the rights of these children and their families.As part of the evaluation of CADIC, the Coalition sought to learn about good practice in coalition building in Ireland. A process was agreed to abstract learning from the review feedback and to generalise this learning to provide a lessons-learnt document for coalition-building in Ireland. This document presents learning acquired during the CADIC review as a practical and straightforward guide to enable coalitions or those individuals and organisations that are considering building a national coalition in Ireland become more effective. This CADIC coalition-building learning document makes a number of key observations about the characteristics of a national coalition; the reasons for building a national coalition; what is useful about building and operating as a national coalition; and what are the pitfalls to be avoided when building a national coalition

Semi-automated creation of converged iTV services: From macromedia director simulations to services ready for broadcast

While sound and video may capture viewers’ attention, interaction can captivate them. This has not been available prior to the advent of Digital Television. In fact, what lies at the heart of the Digital Television revolution is this new type of interactive content, offered in the form of interactive Television (iTV) services. On top of that, the new world of converged networks has created a demand for a new type of converged services on a range of mobile terminals (Tablet PCs, PDAs and mobile phones). This paper aims at presenting a new approach to service creation that allows for the semi-automatic translation of simulations and rapid prototypes created in the accessible desktop multimedia authoring package Macromedia Director into services ready for broadcast. This is achieved by a series of tools that de-skill and speed-up the process of creating digital TV user interfaces (UI) and applications for mobile terminals. The benefits of rapid prototyping are essential for the production of these new types of services, and are therefore discussed in the first section of this paper. In the following sections, an overview of the operation of content, service, creation and management sub-systems is presented, which illustrates why these tools compose an important and integral part of a system responsible of creating, delivering and managing converged broadcast and telecommunications services. The next section examines a number of metadata languages candidates for describing the iTV services user interface and the schema language adopted in this project. A detailed description of the operation of the two tools is provided to offer an insight of how they can be used to de-skill and speed-up the process of creating digital TV user interfaces and applications for mobile terminals. Finally, representative broadcast oriented and telecommunication oriented converged service components are also introduced, demonstrating how these tools have been used to generate different types of services

Implementing good corporate governance to engage corporate social responsibility in financial performance

Purpose: The aim of this study is to analyze the effect and implementing Good Corporate Governance (GCG) to engage and perform a proper Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which will impact the social community and finally improve the financial performance of the company. Design/Methodology/Approach: Good Corporate Governance will focus on four variables, such as the Size of Board of Commissioners (SBC), the Independence of the Board of Commissioners (IBC), the Size of the Board of Directors (SBD), and the numbers of the Audit Committees (NAC). As Corporate Social Responsibility will focus on the variable of CSR index required by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) while the Financial Performance will focus on the variable of Return on Equity (ROE) and Net Profit Margin (NPM). The research method in this study is the Tobin's Q method. The population of this research is based on 41 companies which are listed in the Indonesia Stock Exchange in the year 2016. Data analysis method used is multiple linear regression. Findings: Based on the results SBC, SBD, NAC, CSR and NPM do not have significant effect on the firm value while on the other hand, IBC and ROE do. Practical Implications: Good Corporate Governance can reveal proper and significant process including implementing Corporate Social Responsibility in the company. In some case implementing Good Corporate Governance can suppress the turmoil of company activities in the environment. Originality/Value: The negative and significant effect on the company's value does not simply mean inconsistency resulting the negative effect, instead this result indicates that IBC contributed a significant effect on GCG and CSR.peer-reviewe

Sovereign Net Worth: An Analytical Framework

The Fiscal Responsibility Act requires the Crown to articulate targets for a series of fiscal variables, including net worth. Given the dramatic improvement in the fiscal position in recent years, a critical policy question relates to how (and which) measures of Crown net worth should be targeted. This paper sets out a framework for targeting Crown net worth. It does so by supplementing the GAAP-based measure with forward-looking information about spending and tax revenue. The paper argues that targeting net worth for the Crown requires the estimation of a path, rather than a static level.
