Automatic facial expression tracking for 4D range scans
This paper presents a fully automatic approach of spatio-temporal facial expression tracking for 4D range scans without any manual interventions (such as specifying landmarks). The approach consists of three steps: rigid registration, facial model reconstruction, and facial expression tracking. A Scaling Iterative Closest Points (SICP) algorithm is introduced to compute the optimal rigid registration between a template facial model and a range scan with consideration of the scale problem. A deformable model, physically based on thin shells, is proposed to faithfully reconstruct the facial surface and texture from that range data. And then the reconstructed facial model is used to track facial expressions presented in a sequence of range scans by the deformable model
Learning to Reconstruct Texture-less Deformable Surfaces from a Single View
Recent years have seen the development of mature solutions for reconstructing
deformable surfaces from a single image, provided that they are relatively
well-textured. By contrast, recovering the 3D shape of texture-less surfaces
remains an open problem, and essentially relates to Shape-from-Shading. In this
paper, we introduce a data-driven approach to this problem. We introduce a
general framework that can predict diverse 3D representations, such as meshes,
normals, and depth maps. Our experiments show that meshes are ill-suited to
handle texture-less 3D reconstruction in our context. Furthermore, we
demonstrate that our approach generalizes well to unseen objects, and that it
yields higher-quality reconstructions than a state-of-the-art SfS technique,
particularly in terms of normal estimates. Our reconstructions accurately model
the fine details of the surfaces, such as the creases of a T-Shirt worn by a

Non-Rigid Structure from Motion for Complex Motion
Recovering deformable 3D motion from temporal 2D point tracks in a monocular video is an open problem with many everyday applications throughout science and industry, or the new augmented reality. Recently, several techniques have been proposed to deal the problem called Non-Rigid Structure from Motion (NRSfM), however, they can exhibit poor reconstruction performance on complex motion. In this project, we will analyze these situations for primitive human actions such as walk, run, sit, jump, etc. on different scenarios, reviewing first the current techniques to finally present our novel method. This approach is able to model complex motion into a union of subspaces, rather than the summation occurring in standard low-rank shape methods, allowing better reconstruction accuracy.
