AmbieSense: a system and reference architecture for personalised and context-sensitive information services for mobile users
The purpose of AmbieSense is to provide personalised, context-sensitive information to the mobile user. It is about augmenting digital information to physical objects, rooms, and areas. The aim is to provide relevant information to the right user and situation. Digital content is distributed from the surroundings and onto your mobile phone. An ambient information environment is provided by a combination of context tag technology, a software platform to manage and deliver the information, and personal computing devices to which the information is served. This paper describes how the AmbieSense reference architecture has been defined and used in order to deliver information to the mobile citizen at the right time, place and situation. Information is provided via specialist content providers. The application area addresses the information needs of travellers and tourists
Aspects of Assembly and Cascaded Aspects of Assembly: Logical and Temporal Properties
Highly dynamic computing environments, like ubiquitous and pervasive
computing environments, require frequent adaptation of applications. This has
to be done in a timely fashion, and the adaptation process must be as fast as
possible and mastered. Moreover the adaptation process has to ensure a
consistent result when finished whereas adaptations to be implemented cannot be
anticipated at design time. In this paper we present our mechanism for
self-adaptation based on the aspect oriented programming paradigm called Aspect
of Assembly (AAs). Using AAs: (1) the adaptations process is fast and its
duration is mastered; (2) adaptations' entities are independent of each other
thanks to the weaver logical merging mechanism; and (3) the high variability of
the software infrastructure can be managed using a mono or multi-cycle weaving

Microservices: Granularity vs. Performance
Microservice Architectures (MA) have the potential to increase the agility of
software development. In an era where businesses require software applications
to evolve to support software emerging requirements, particularly for Internet
of Things (IoT) applications, we examine the issue of microservice granularity
and explore its effect upon application latency. Two approaches to microservice
deployment are simulated; the first with microservices in a single container,
and the second with microservices partitioned across separate containers. We
observed a neglibible increase in service latency for the multiple container

A Virtual Network PaaS for 3GPP 4G and Beyond Core Network Services
Cloud computing and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) are emerging as key
technologies to overcome the challenges facing 4G and beyond mobile systems.
Over the last few years, Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) has gained momentum and
has become more widely adopted throughout IT enterprises. It simplifies the
applications provisioning and accelerates time-to-market while lowering costs.
Telco can leverage the same model to provision the 4G and beyond core network
services using NFV technology. However, many challenges have to be addressed,
mainly due to the specificities of network services. This paper proposes an
architecture for a Virtual Network Platform-as-a-Service (VNPaaS) to provision
3GPP 4G and beyond core network services in a distributed environment. As an
illustrative use case, the proposed architecture is employed to provision the
3GPP Home Subscriber Server (HSS) as-a-Service (HSSaaS). The HSSaaS is built
from Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs) resulting from a novel decomposition
