    Design of a decentralized tracking control for a class of switched large-scale systems

    International audienceThis paper proposes a new design of a decentralized output-feedback tracking control for a class of switched large-scale systems with external bounded disturbances. The controller proposed herein is synthesized to satisfy the robust H tracking performance with local disturbance attenuation levels. Based on multiple switched Lyapunov functions, sufficient conditions proving the existence of the proposed controller are formulated in terms of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI). A deep simulation is proposed to illustrate the effectiveness of the obtained results

    STABILITY AND PERFORMANCE OF NETWORKED CONTROL SYSTEMS

    Network control systems (NCSs), as one of the most active research areas, are arousing comprehensive concerns along with the rapid development of network. This dissertation mainly discusses the stability and performance of NCSs into the following two parts. In the first part, a new approach is proposed to reduce the data transmitted in networked control systems (NCSs) via model reduction method. Up to our best knowledge, we are the first to propose this new approach in the scientific and engineering society. The "unimportant" information of system states vector is truncated by balanced truncation method (BTM) before sending to the networked controller via network based on the balance property of the remote controlled plant controllability and observability. Then, the exponential stability condition of the truncated NCSs is derived via linear matrix inequality (LMI) forms. This method of data truncation can usually reduce the time delay and further improve the performance of the NCSs. In addition, all the above results are extended to the switched NCSs. The second part presents a new robust sliding mode control (SMC) method for general uncertain time-varying delay stochastic systems with structural uncertainties and the Brownian noise (Wiener process). The key features of the proposed method are to apply singular value decomposition (SVD) to all structural uncertainties, to introduce adjustable parameters for control design along with the SMC method, and new Lyapunov-type functional. Then, a less-conservative condition for robust stability and a new robust controller for the general uncertain stochastic systems are derived via linear matrix inequality (LMI) forms. The system states are able to reach the SMC switching surface as guaranteed in probability 1 by the proposed control rule. Furthermore, the novel Lyapunov-type functional for the uncertain stochastic systems is used to design a new robust control for the general case where the derivative of time-varying delay can be any bounded value (e.g., greater than one). It is theoretically proved that the conservatism of the proposed method is less than the previous methods. All theoretical proofs are presented in the dissertation. The simulations validate the correctness of the theoretical results and have better performance than the existing results

    Robust model-based fault estimation and fault-tolerant control : towards an integration

    To maintain robustly acceptable system performance, fault estimation (FE) is adopted to reconstruct fault signals and a fault-tolerant control (FTC) controller is employed to compensate for the fault effects. The inevitably existing system and estimation uncertainties result in the so-called bi-directional robustness interactions defined in this work between the FE and FTC functions, which gives rise to an important and challenging yet open integrated FE/FTC design problem concerned in this thesis. An example of fault-tolerant wind turbine pitch control is provided as a practical motivation for integrated FE/FTC design.To achieve the integrated FE/FTC design for linear systems, two strategies are proposed. A H∞ optimization based approach is first proposed for linear systems with differentiable matched faults, using augmented state unknown input observer FE and adaptive sliding mode FTC. The integrated design is converted into an observer-based robust control problem solved via a single-step linear matrix inequality formulation.With the purpose of an integrated design with more freedom and also applicable for a range of general fault scenarios, a decoupling approach is further proposed. This approach can estimate and compensate unmatched non-differentiable faults and perturbations by combined adaptive sliding mode augmented state unknown input observer and backstepping FTC controller. The observer structure renders a recovery of the Separation Principle and allows great freedom for the FE/FTC designs.Integrated FE/FTC design strategies are also developed for Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy modelling nonlinear systems, Lipschitz nonlinear systems, and large-scale interconnected systems, based on extensions of the H∞ optimization approach for linear systems.Tutorial examples are used to illustrate the design strategies for each approach. Physical systems, a 3-DOF (degree-of-freedom) helicopter and a 3-machine power system, are used to provide further evaluation of the proposed integrated FE/FTC strategies.     Decentralized Control for Large-Scale Interconnected Nonlinear Systems Based on Barrier Lyapunov Function

    We present a novel decentralized tracking control scheme for a class of large-scale nonlinear systems with partial state constraints. For the first time, backstepping design with the newly proposed BLF is incorporated to effectively deal with the control problem of nonlinear systems with interconnected constraints. To prevent the states of each subsystem from violating the constraints, we employ a special barrier Lyapunov function (BLF), which grows to infinity whenever its argument approaches some finite limits. By ensuring boundedness of the barrier Lyapunov function in the closed loop, we ensure that those limits are not transgressed. Asymptotic tracking is achieved without violation of the constraints, and all closed-loop signals remain bounded. In the end, an illustrative example is presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed control

    Stability of a class of multi-agent tracking systems with unstable subsystems

    In this work, we pre-deploy a large number of smart agents to monitor an area of interest. This area could be divided into many Voronoi cells by using the knowledge of Voronoi diagram and every Voronoi site agent is responsible for monitoring and tracking the target in its cell. Then, a cooperative relay tracking strategy is proposed such that during the tracking process, when a target enters a new Voronoi cell, this event triggers the switching of both tracking agents and communication topology. This is significantly different from the traditional switching topologies. In addition, during the tracking process, the topology and tracking agents switch, which may lead the tracking system to be stable or unstable. The system switches either among consecutive stable subsystems and consecutive unstable subsystems or between stable and unstable subsystems. The objective of this paper is to design a tracking strategy guaranteeing overall successful tracking despite the existence of unstable subsystems. We also address extended discussions on the case where the dynamics of agents are subject to disturbances and the disturbance attenuation level is achieved. Finally, the proposed tracking strategy is verified by a set of simulations
