Modelling and Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Control for Mirror-based Pointing Systems

In this paper, we present a new discrete-time Fast Terminal Sliding Mode (FTSM) controller for mirror-based pointing systems. We first derive the decoupled model of those systems and then estimate the parameters using a nonlinear least-square identification method. Based on the derived model, we design a FTSM sliding manifold in the continuous domain. We then exploit the Euler discretization on the designed FTSM sliding surfaces to synthesize a discrete-time controller. Furthermore, we improve the transient dynamics of the sliding surface by adding a linear term. Finally, we prove the stability of the proposed controller based on the Sarpturk reaching condition. Extensive simulations, followed by comparisons with the Terminal Sliding Mode (TSM) and Model Predictive Control (MPC) have been carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. A comparative study with data obtained from a real-time experiment was also conducted. The results indicate the advantage of the proposed method over the other techniques.Comment: In Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision (ICARCV 2018

Nonsingular terminal sliding mode control of uncertain multivariable systems

This paper proposes a nonsingular terminal sliding mode control for uncertain multivariable systems with parameter uncertainties or disturbances. A hierarchical control structure is utilized for simplifying the controller design. Uncertain multivariable linear systems are converted into the block controllable form consisting of two subsystems, an input-output subsystem and a stable internal dynamic subsystem. In order to guarantee fast convergence and better tracking precision, a nonsingular terminal sliding mode manifold is proposed for the input-output subsystem. To eliminate the chattering phenomenon, a continuous nonsingular terminal sliding mode control law is designed using the second-order sliding mode approach. Under the proposed controllers, the states of the input-output subsystem can be driven to converge to zero asymptotically and the stability of the zero-dynamics of the system is guaranteed. The simulation results are presented to validate the design

Terminal Sliding Mode Control for Attitude Tracking of Spacecraft Based on Rotation Matrix

Two finite-time controllers without unwinding for the attitude tracking control of the spacecraft are investigated based on the rotation matrix, in which a novel modified nonsingular fast terminal sliding manifold is developed to keep tr(R~)≠-1. The first terminal sliding mode controller can compensate external disturbances with known bounds, while the second one can compensate external disturbances with unknown bounds by using an adaptive control method. Since the first terminal sliding mode controller is continuous, it is able to avoid chattering phenomenon. Theoretical analysis shows that both the two controllers can make spacecraft follow a time-varying reference attitude signal in finite time. Numerical simulations also demonstrate that the proposed control schemes are effective

Continuous Recursive Sliding Mode Control for Hypersonic Flight Vehicle with Extended Disturbance Observer

A continuous recursive sliding mode controller (CRSMC) with extended disturbance observer (EDO) is proposed for the longitudinal dynamics of a generic hypersonic flight vehicle (HFV) in the presence of multiple uncertainties under control constraints. Firstly, sliding mode tracking controller based on a set of novel recursive sliding mode manifolds is presented, in which the chattering problem is reduced. The CRSMC possesses the merits of both nonsingular terminal sliding mode controller (NTSMC) and high-order sliding mode controller (HOSMC). Then antiwindup controller is designed according to the input constraints, which adds a dynamic compensation factor in the CRSMC. For the external disturbance of system, an improved disturbance observer based on extended disturbance observer (EDO) is designed. The external disturbance is estimated by the disturbance observer and the estimated value is regarded as compensation in CRSMC for disturbance. The stability of the proposed scheme is analyzed by Lyapunov function theory. Finally, numerical simulation is conducted for cruise flight dynamics of HFV, where altitude is 110000 ft, velocity is 15060 ft/s, and Mach is 15. Simulation results show the validity of the proposed approach

The AHOSM self-tuning controller is proposed and studied. The double-layer adaptive algorithm is based on equivalent control concepts and ensures non-overestimation of the control gain to help mitigates control chattering. The proposed continuous AHOSM control is validated via simulations of a hypersonic missile in the terminal phase. The robustness and high accuracy output tracking in the presence of matched and unmatched external disturbances and missile model uncertainties is demonstrate

Terminal sliding mode control strategy design for second-order nonlinear system

This study mainly focuses on the terminal sliding mode control (TSMC) strategy design, including an adaptive terminal sliding mode control (ATSMC) and an exact-estimator-based terminal sliding mode control (ETSMC) for second-order nonlinear dynamical systems. In the ATSMC system, an adaptive bound estimation for the lump uncertainty is proposed to ensure the system stability. On the other hand, an exact estimator is designed for exact estimating system uncertainties to solve the trouble of chattering phenomena caused by a sign function in ATSMC law in despite of the utilization of a fixed value or an adaptive tuning algorithm for the lumped uncertainty bound. The effectiveness of the proposed control schemes can be verified in numerical simulations.<br /

The global sliding mode tracking control for a class of variable order fractional differential systems

    Get PDF
In this paper, a novel variable order fractional control approach is proposed for tracking control of both of variable order fractional and constant order fractional order system with uncertain and external disturbance terms. In term of the global sliding mode control theory and terminal sliding mode control method, the system states are guaranteed to stay on the switching surface from the initial time, and then converge to the origin by the designed controllers which are continuous input signals. Such controllers avoid the undesirable chattering and remove the effects of uncertain and external disturbance completely. Finally, the comparison between the variable order fraction controller and the constant order fractional controller is given by numerical simulation, furthermore, numerical results on the effects of the tracking control are provided. This paper has been supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (No.12002194; No.12072178; No.11732005), Natural Science Foundation of Shandong Province (No.ZR2020QA037; No.ZR2020MA054), Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (No. PGC2018-097198-B-I00) and Fundación Séneca de la Región de Murcia (No.20783/PI/18)
