    CONNECTIVITY OF ERP WITH LEGACY SYSTEMS

    The purpose of this study is to propose the criteria for determining the appropriate connectivity of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. The result of this study provides a framework assisting ERP adopters in selecting integration approaches that are appropriate to their needs. A survey was conducted to obtain information from ERP users to learn about their opinions on factors and criteria affecting connectivity of ERP systems. Findings from the study revealed that data-oriented approach and application integration oriented approach are the preferred integration methodologies. Criteria for evaluating ERP connectivity include nature of the organization \u27s business process, availability of technologies and service supports, nature of the organization \u27s information system, system flexibility, degree of integration, transaction volume, implementation cost, ease of maintenance, implementation time, security, and budget. Finally, the study proposes a framework to determine appropriate connectivity of ERP systems

    An investigation of factors leading to the reluctance of SaaS ERP adoption in Namibian SMEs

    This paper aims to contribute to the growing study of Cloud ERP in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). A qualitative study was done in Namibian SMEs to investigate factors that lead to the reluctance of Cloud ERP in SMEs in developing countries. Data was collected from fourteen different SMEs. A Diffusion of Innovation (DoI) framework was chosen to understand how this relatively new technology is being adopted. The study has found attitude towards change, satisfaction with the existing system, lack of knowledge, compatibility issues, unreliable internet connectivity and data security concerns as the main factors that lead to this reluctance. Furthermore, it has also found that perceived low cost has a positive effect on the intention to adopt cloud ERP. The study concludes that the presence of Cloud ERP providers will encourage Cloud ERP adoption, as there seems to be lack of knowledge among prospective adopters. In addition, with unreliable internet connectivity concerns, these providers can consider partnering up with internet service providers to provide affordable reliable internet services

    Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Alters Auditory-motor Integration For Voice Control

    Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most common drug-refractory focal epilepsy in adults. Previous research has shown that patients with TLE exhibit decreased performance in listening to speech sounds and deficits in the cortical processing of auditory information. Whether TLE compromises auditory-motor integration for voice control, however, remains largely unknown. To address this question, event-related potentials (ERPs) and vocal responses to vocal pitch errors (1/2 or 2 semitones upward) heard in auditory feedback were compared across 28 patients with TLE and 28 healthy controls. Patients with TLE produced significantly larger vocal responses but smaller P2 responses than healthy controls. Moreover, patients with TLE exhibited a positive correlation between vocal response magnitude and baseline voice variability and a negative correlation between P2 amplitude and disease duration. Graphical network analyses revealed a disrupted neuronal network for patients with TLE with a significant increase of clustering coefficients and path lengths as compared to healthy controls. These findings provide strong evidence that TLE is associated with an atypical integration of the auditory and motor systems for vocal pitch regulation, and that the functional networks that support the auditory-motor processing of pitch feedback errors differ between patients with TLE and healthy controls

    Dynamic Construction of Stimulus Values in the Ventromedial Prefrontal Cortex

    Signals representing the value assigned to stimuli at the time of choice have been repeatedly observed in ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC). Yet it remains unknown how these value representations are computed from sensory and memory representations in more posterior brain regions. We used electroencephalography (EEG) while subjects evaluated appetitive and aversive food items to study how event-related responses modulated by stimulus value evolve over time. We found that value-related activity shifted from posterior to anterior, and from parietal to central to frontal sensors, across three major time windows after stimulus onset: 150–250 ms, 400–550 ms, and 700–800 ms. Exploratory localization of the EEG signal revealed a shifting network of activity moving from sensory and memory structures to areas associated with value coding, with stimulus value activity localized to vmPFC only from 400 ms onwards. Consistent with these results, functional connectivity analyses also showed a causal flow of information from temporal cortex to vmPFC. Thus, although value signals are present as early as 150 ms after stimulus onset, the value signals in vmPFC appear relatively late in the choice process, and seem to reflect the integration of incoming information from sensory and memory related regions

    Complex networks in brain electrical activity

    We analyze the complex networks associated with brain electrical activity. Multichannel EEG measurements are first processed to obtain 3D voxel activations using the tomographic algorithm LORETA. Then, the correlation of the current intensity activation between voxel pairs is computed to produce a voxel cross-correlation coefficient matrix. Using several correlation thresholds, the cross-correlation matrix is then transformed into a network connectivity matrix and analyzed. To study a specific example, we selected data from an earlier experiment focusing on the MMN brain wave. The resulting analysis highlights significant differences between the spatial activations associated with Standard and Deviant tones, with interesting physiological implications. When compared to random data networks, physiological networks are more connected, with longer links and shorter path lengths. Furthermore, as compared to the Deviant case, Standard data networks are more connected, with longer links and shorter path lengths--i.e., with a stronger ``small worlds'' character. The comparison between both networks shows that areas known to be activated in the MMN wave are connected. In particular, the analysis supports the idea that supra-temporal and inferior frontal data work together in the processing of the differences between sounds by highlighting an increased connectivity in the response to a novel sound.Comment: 22 pages, 5 figures.     Evaluating the integration of supply chain information systems: A case study

    Supply chain management (SCM) is the integrated management of business links, information flows and people. It is with this frame of reference that information systems integration from both intra- and inter-organisational levels becomes significant. Enterprise application integration (EAI) has emerged as software technologies to address the issue of integrating the portfolio of SCM components both within organisations and through cross-enterprises. EAI is based on a diversity of integration technologies (e.g. message brokers, ebXML) that differ in the type and level of integration they offer. However, none of these technologies claim to be a panacea to overcoming all integration problems but rather, need to be pieced together to support the linking of diverse applications that often exist within supply chains. In exploring the evaluation of supply chain integration, the authors propose a framework for evaluating the portfolio of integration technologies that are used to unify inter-organisational and intra-organisational information systems. The authors define and classify the permutations of information systems available according to their characteristics and integration requirements. These, classifications of system types are then adopted as part of the evaluation framework and empirically tested within a case study

    Until relatively recently the vast majority of imaging and electrophysiological studies of human brain activity have relied on single-modality measurements usually correlated with readily observable or experimentally modified behavioural or brain state patterns. Multi-modal imaging is the concept of bringing together observations or measurements from different instruments. We discuss the aims of multi-modal imaging and the ways in which it can be accomplished using representative applications. Given the importance of haemodynamic and electrophysiological signals in current multi-modal imaging applications, we also review some of the basic physiology relevant to understanding their relationship
