    Aggregating opinions in non-uniform ordered qualitative scales

    ProducciĂłn CientĂ­ficaThis paper introduces a new voting system in the setting of ordered qualitative scales. The process is conducted in a purely ordinal way by considering an ordinal proximity measure that assigns an ordinal degree of proximity to each pair of linguistic terms of the qualitative scale. Once the agents assess the alternatives through the qualitative scale, the alternatives are ranked according to the medians of the ordinal degrees of proximity between the obtained individual assessments and the highest linguistic term of the scale. Since some alternatives may share the same median, an appropriate tie-breaking procedure is introduced.     The induced 2-tuple linguistic generalized OWA operator and its application in linguistic decision making

    We present the induced 2-tuple linguistic generalized ordered weighted averaging (2-TILGOWA) operator. This new aggregation operator extends previous approaches by using generalized means, order-inducing variables in the reordering of the arguments and linguistic information represented with the 2-tuple linguistic approach. Its main advantage is that it includes a wide range of linguistic aggregation operators. Thus, its analyses can be seen from different perspectives and we obtain a much more complete picture of the situation considered and are able to select the alternative that best fits with with our interests or beliefs. We further generalize the operator by using quasi-arithmetic means, and obtain the Quasi-2-TILOWA operator. Different proposals that either grouping such different meanings (uncertainty) to provide one representation for all people or use multi-granular linguistic term sets with the semantics of each granularity, have been developed and applied in the specialized literature. Despite these models are quite useful they do not model individually yet the different meanings of each person when he/she elicits linguistic information. Hence, in this paper a personalized individual semantics (PIS) model is proposed to personalize individual semantics by means of an interval numerical scale and the 2-tuple linguistic model. Specifically, a consistency-driven optimization-based model to obtain and represent the PIS is introduced. A new CW framework based on the 2-tuple linguistic model is then defined, such a CW framework allows us to deal with PIS to facilitate CW keeping the idea that words mean different things to different people.     Decision-Making Model for Student Assessment by Unifying Numerical and Linguistic Data

    Learning assessment deals with the process of making a decision on the quality or performance of student achievement in a number of competency standards. In the process, teacher’s preferences are provided through both test and non-test, generally in a numeric value, from which the final results are then converted into letters or linguistic value. In the proposed model, linguistic variables are exploited as a form of teacher’s preferences in non-test techniques. Consequently, the assessment data set will consist of numerical and linguistic information, so it requires a method to unify them to obtain the final value. A model that uses the 2-tuple linguistic approach and based on matrix operations is proposed to solve the problem. This study proposed a new procedure that consists of four stages: preprocessing, transformation, aggregation and exploitation. The final result is presented in 2-tuple linguistic representation and its equivalent number, accompanied by a description of the achievement of each competency. The α value of 2-tuple linguistic in the final result and in the description of each competency becomes meaningful information that can be interpreted as a comparative ability one student has related to other students, and shows how much potential is achieved to reach higher ranks. The proposed model contributes to enrich the learning assessment techniques, since the exploitation of linguistic variable as representation preferences provides flexible space for teachers in their assessments. Moreover, using the result with respect to students’ levels of each competency, students’ mastery of each attribute can be diagnosed and their progress of learning can be estimated

    An Integrative Decision-Making Mechanism for Consumers’ Brand Selection using 2-Tuple Fuzzy Linguistic Perceptions and Decision Heuristics

    Consumers perform decision-making (DM) processes to select their preferred brands during their entire consumer journeys. These DM processes are based on the multiple perceptions they have about the products available in the market they are aware of. These consumers usually perform different DM strategies and employ diverse heuristics depending on the nature of the purchase, ranging from more pure optimal choices to faster decisions. Therefore, the design of realistic DM approaches for modeling these consumer behaviors requires a good representation of consumer perceptions and a reliable process for integrating their corresponding heuristics. In this work, we use fuzzy linguistic information to represent consumer perceptions and propose four consumer DM heuristics to model the qualitative linguistic information for the consumer buying decision. In particular, we use 2-tuple fuzzy linguistic variables, which is a substantially more natural and realistic representation without falling in a loss of information. The set of selected heuristics differ in the degree of involvement the consumers give to their decisions. Additionally, we propose a heuristic selection mechanism to integrate the four heuristics in a single DM procedure by using a regulation parameter. Our experimental analysis shows that the combination of these heuristics in a portfolio manner improves the performance of our model with a realistic representation of consumer perceptions. The model’s outcome matches the expected behavior of the consumers in several real market scenarios

    Distributed linguistic representations are powerful tools for modelling the uncertainty and complexity of preference information in linguistic decision making. To provide a comprehensive perspective on the development of distributed linguistic representations in decision making, we present the taxonomy of existing distributed linguistic representations. Then, we review the key elements and applications of distributed linguistic information processing in decision making, including the distance measurement, aggregation methods, distributed linguistic preference relations, and distributed linguistic multiple attribute decision making models.     A multi-granular linguistic model to evaluate the suitability of installing an ERP system

    The use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) has shown clearly useful and economically profitable in most very large organizations which manage a great deal of data in their information systems. Nevertheless, the decision of installing an ERP system is not easy and it depends on the size, future profits and other features of the companies. The assessments of the parameters (features, aspects) used to evaluate the suitability of the ERP may be vague and imprecise because they are usually perceptions of the experts. We propose the use of linguistic information to assess these parameters due to the fact that it is very suitable to model and manage human perceptions. In addition, it may be that each expert has a different knowledge about each parameter and prefers to express his/her preferences in his/her own linguistic term set. Therefore, to manage the evaluation problem of installing an ERP, in this contribution we present a multi-granular linguistic evaluation model that covers these necessities
