Regularized Wasserstein Means for Aligning Distributional Data

We propose to align distributional data from the perspective of Wasserstein means. We raise the problem of regularizing Wasserstein means and propose several terms tailored to tackle different problems. Our formulation is based on the variational transportation to distribute a sparse discrete measure into the target domain. The resulting sparse representation well captures the desired property of the domain while reducing the mapping cost. We demonstrate the scalability and robustness of our method with examples in domain adaptation, point set registration, and skeleton layout

Measuring Relations Between Concepts In Conceptual Spaces

The highly influential framework of conceptual spaces provides a geometric way of representing knowledge. Instances are represented by points in a high-dimensional space and concepts are represented by regions in this space. Our recent mathematical formalization of this framework is capable of representing correlations between different domains in a geometric way. In this paper, we extend our formalization by providing quantitative mathematical definitions for the notions of concept size, subsethood, implication, similarity, and betweenness. This considerably increases the representational power of our formalization by introducing measurable ways of describing relations between concepts.Comment: Accepted at SGAI 2017 (http://www.bcs-sgai.org/ai2017/). Finite Volume Properly Convex Deformations of the Figure-eight Knot

In this paper we show that some open set of the representations of the fundamental group of figure-eight knot complement found in \cite{Ballas12a} are the holonomies of a family of finite volume properly convex projective structures on the figure-eight knot complement.Comment: 21 pages, 7 figure. Incorporated additional referee comments, fixed typos. Simplified the proof of Lemma 3.3. To appear in Geometriae Dedicat

Learning Convex Partitions and Computing Game-theoretic Equilibria from Best Response Queries

Suppose that an mm-simplex is partitioned into nn convex regions having disjoint interiors and distinct labels, and we may learn the label of any point by querying it. The learning objective is to know, for any point in the simplex, a label that occurs within some distance Ï”\epsilon from that point. We present two algorithms for this task: Constant-Dimension Generalised Binary Search (CD-GBS), which for constant mm uses poly(n,log⁥(1Ï”))poly(n, \log \left( \frac{1}{\epsilon} \right)) queries, and Constant-Region Generalised Binary Search (CR-GBS), which uses CD-GBS as a subroutine and for constant nn uses poly(m,log⁥(1Ï”))poly(m, \log \left( \frac{1}{\epsilon} \right)) queries. We show via Kakutani's fixed-point theorem that these algorithms provide bounds on the best-response query complexity of computing approximate well-supported equilibria of bimatrix games in which one of the players has a constant number of pure strategies. We also partially extend our results to games with multiple players, establishing further query complexity bounds for computing approximate well-supported equilibria in this setting.Comment: 38 pages, 7 figures, second version strengthens lower bound in Theorem 6, adds footnotes with additional comments and fixes typo

"Convex" characterization of linearly convex domains

We prove that a C1,1C^{1,1}-smooth bounded domain DD in \C^n is linearly convex if and only if the convex hull of any two discs in DD with common center lies in D.D.Comment: to appear in Math. Scand.; v3: Appendix is adde

Algorithmic Verification of Continuous and Hybrid Systems

    Get PDF
We provide a tutorial introduction to reachability computation, a class of computational techniques that exports verification technology toward continuous and hybrid systems. For open under-determined systems, this technique can sometimes replace an infinite number of simulations.Comment: In Proceedings INFINITY 2013, arXiv:1402.661
