    “BEM” An Android Application Model to Enhance Midwifery Students English Speaking Competence

    The lack of exposure and practice in learning English due to the short meeting hours is the main factor contributing to the low level of midwifery students’ English-speaking competence in Indonesia. Mobile-Assisted Language Learning can be one of the ways to cope with this problem. A plethora of learning speaking applications is available in the App Store and Play Store. However, midwifery students need more specific English to meet their needs. This study aims at developing a model of android application to enhance the speaking competence of midwifery students and anchors in the instructional design model. The design was in the five stages, namely: Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. Twenty-one midwifery students and two experts of material development and information technology were participants for product implementation and evaluation. The researchers obtained the necessary data through observations, questionnaires, and interviews. The finding of this study was that an android application model named BEM (Basic English for Midwives) developed in this study could enhance the midwifery students speaking competence.     Curriculum Learning for Graph Neural Networks: A Multiview Competence-based Approach

    A curriculum is a planned sequence of learning materials and an effective one can make learning efficient and effective for both humans and machines. Recent studies developed effective data-driven curriculum learning approaches for training graph neural networks in language applications. However, existing curriculum learning approaches often employ a single criterion of difficulty in their training paradigms. In this paper, we propose a new perspective on curriculum learning by introducing a novel approach that builds on graph complexity formalisms (as difficulty criteria) and model competence during training. The model consists of a scheduling scheme which derives effective curricula by accounting for different views of sample difficulty and model competence during training. The proposed solution advances existing research in curriculum learning for graph neural networks with the ability to incorporate a fine-grained spectrum of graph difficulty criteria in their training paradigms. Experimental results on real-world link prediction and node classification tasks illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.Comment: ACL 202

    Applying the 6E learning by design model to support student teachers to integrate artificial intelligence applications in their classroom

    The 6E Learning by Design (LbD) model can enhance student teachers’ development of competence for integrating technologies in the classrooms including Artificial Intelligence (AI). However, teacher educators rarely use the 6E LbD model in supporting and encouraging student teachers to integrate AI applications in their classrooms effectively. To attract teacher educators to use the 6E LbD model, in the present study, we modeled learning activities for each phase. We also examined the impact of the 6E LbD model in supporting student teachers to integrate AI in the classroom. We adopted a Participatory Action Research approach implemented in two cycles. We collected data from 35 student teachers who were selected purposively. We collected data through observation, reflective journals and document analysis. We observed student teachers during the classroom activities and analysed their lesson plans and reflective journals, and interpreted data based on a thematic analysis. Findings show that there are various activities facilitating learning in different phases of the 6E LbD model. Also, findings show that the 6E LbD enables student teachers to develop skills and competence for integrating AI in their classrooms. The findings show that an evidence-based approach will motivate teacher educators to use the 6E LbD model

    How Confident are EFL Prospective Teachers toward Technology?

    The advance of ICT development in educational context encourages educators to increase their competence towards technology integration for classroom activities. Consequently, this phenomenon affects teacher education program to equip student teachers as the digital natives in this fourth industrial revolution era with skills accommodating their technology literacy as well as practice. However, to determine the appropriate integration model and supporting training program, analyzing technology confidence seems to be an important thing for initial development step for an institution. This study aims to investigate technology competence of English prospective teachers in terms of applications use capability, technology confidence based on GPA, and TPACK confidence. Questionnaire was used as the instrument, and it was administered to twenty eight participants. The data was analyzed descriptively. The findings reveal that most of the subjects are familiar with the technology application. Further, not all of the subjects are confident to their ICT competence. Inserting GPA information to the prospective teachers’ profile, it shows that high GPA do not guarantee high confidence on ICT use. For TPACK confidence result, it shows that more than 45% are confident to integrate technology in their classroom instruction

    Puskesmas is a health service facility that organizes public health efforts and first-level individual health efforts, service agencies that provide services to the community, really need the speed of information services so that they can provide optimal services to the community. To provide optimal and maximum service to the community, the puskesmas needs to increase the competence of the staff at the puskesmas by conducting office application workshops for their staff. For the puskesmas staff in Selindung, there are already some who know how to use office applications such as word, excel and powerpoint. But in detail in the use and utilization of office applications in more detail, they still do not understand and are not optimal. This is what makes the author and the team collaborate with the Puskesmas Selindung to carry out a work shop for office applications for puskesmas staff. The purpose of this workshop is to increase the competence of Pusekesma staff in the use and use of computers, especially in office applications, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.     This Article evaluates the misalignment of medical capacity and legal competence for perinatal people with serious medical illnesses (SMI), an issue that has had limited discourse in legal academia. It delineates the contours of these concepts, dissecting their theoretical underpinnings and practical applications. While medical capacity is often considered an iterative, context-specific determination, legal competence is typically treated as a rigid, binary legal categorization. It then illustrates how the disparate scope and aims of capacity and competence lead to a precarious misalignment for people with fluctuating mental states, particularly perinatal people with SMI. The Article proposes solutions to harmonize the medical and legal paradigms including normative considerations and practical policy changes, aiming to protect the rights and well-being of individuals while ensuring that determinations are fair, accurate, and reflective of an individual’s true abilities. Ultimately, the Article advocates for a paradigm shift away from the legal system’s inflexible, protectionist approach towards a more nuanced, adaptable capacity assessment model that responds to the variable nature of living with mental illness

    From agent-based models to the macroscopic description of fake-news spread: the role of competence in data-driven applications

    Fake news spreading, with the aim of manipulating individuals' perceptions of facts, is now recognized as a major problem in many democratic societies. Yet, to date, little has been understood about how fake news spreads on social networks, what the influence of the education level of individuals is, when fake news is effective in influencing public opinion, and what interventions might be successful in mitigating their effect. In this paper, starting from the recently introduced kinetic multi-agent model with competence by the first two authors, we propose to derive reduced-order models through the notion of social closure in the mean-field approximation that has its roots in the classical hydrodynamic closure of kinetic theory. This approach allows to obtain simplified models in which the competence and learning of the agents maintain their role in the dynamics and, at the same time, the structure of such models is more suitable to be interfaced with data-driven applications.     The article deals with the problem for development of techers’ information and communication competence and use of cloud computing for it. The analysis of the modern approaches to the use of cloud technologies and projects for professional development of teachers and development of teachers’ information and communication competence have been presented.There are the main characteristics of software as a service on the Internet for education leading companies Google, Microsoft, IBM. There are described some actions of these companies, which are conducted to help teachers to master cloud technology for improving the professional activities and development of teachers’ information and communication competence. The examples of ways of development of teachers’ information and communication competence and training teachers to use modern ICT in the professional activity are given in the paper.     An ontology co-design method for the co-creation of a continuous care ontology

    Ontology engineering methodologies tend to emphasize the role of the knowledge engineer or require a very active role of domain experts. In this paper, a participatory ontology engineering method is described that holds the middle ground between these two 'extremes'. After thorough ethnographic research, an interdisciplinary group of domain experts closely interacted with ontology engineers and social scientists in a series of workshops. Once a preliminary ontology was developed, a dynamic care request system was built using the ontology. Additional workshops were organized involving a broader group of domain experts to ensure the applicability of the ontology across continuous care settings. The proposed method successfully actively engaged domain experts in constructing the ontology, without overburdening them. Its applicability is illustrated by presenting the co-created continuous care ontology. The lessons learned during the design and execution of the approach are also presented
