Mobile appointment reminders in patient-centered care: Design and evaluation

    Get PDF
Reminder systems have great potential to enhance healthcare outcome if it can facilitate collaborative appointment management with accessible mobile communication technology in patient-centered care. Yet, Current appointment reminder systems are effective but not optimal (McLean, et al. 2016). Following the design science process delineated by Peffers et al. (2007) and other requirements, this study proposes a design of reciprocal reminder system that automates the process of appointment rescheduling for healthcare providers and patients in addition to confirmation and cancellation. Based on the premises of media synchronicity theory, media naturalness theory and stakeholder theory as kernel theories, this study develops a design theory that covers platform design, communication design and service design. Design principles of new mobile appointment reminders are proposed to cater to the different requirements of provider and patient users. Situation adaptivity and privacy sensitivity are identified as the major design features that need to strike a balance between different user requirements. An experiment investigates how the variation in design may influence user behavior, and the findings suggest that situation adaptivity and privacy sensitivity have positive effects on users’ system experiences in terms of performance expectancy, effort expectancy and subjective consonance. Further survey results on the final design confirm that the reciprocal reminder system adaptive to patient situations and sensitive to privacy concerns has the expected effects on user behavior

Efficient Calculation of Optimal Configuration Processes

    Get PDF
Customers are getting increasingly involved in the design of the products and services they choose by specifying their desired characteristics. As a result, configuration systems have become essential technologies to support the development of mass-customization business models. These technologies facilitate the configuration of complex products and services that otherwise could generate many incorrect configurations and overwhelm users with confusion. This thesis studies the problem of optimizing the user interaction in a configuration process – as in minimizing the number of questions asked to a user in order to obtain a fully-specified product or service configuration. The work carried out builds upon a previously existing framework to optimize the process of configuring a software system, and focuses on improving its efficiency and generalizing its application to a wider range of configuration domains. Two solution methods along with two alternative ways of specifying the configuration models are proposed and studied on different configuration scenarios. The experimental study evidences that the introduced solutions overcome the limitations of the existing framework, resulting in more suitable algorithms to work with models involving a large number of configuration variables

Includes bibliographical references (leaves 129-135).HIV/Aids has had a major impact on global society since its discovery in 1981.Over the last two decades, HIV treatment research has resulted in the developmentof antiretroviral (ARV) drug therapy and treatment. However, there are many challenges to ARV Therapy (ART) and these challenges are further extended in the resource limited developing world, where the majority of infections occur. Therefore, ART is regarded as not only a medical challenge, but a logistical, monitoring and management challenge that requires the development and implementation of supporting systems. The Cell-Life system is a prototype engineering concept that uses locally available ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies), such as GSM (Global System for Mobile) and Internet connectivity to provide monitoring and management support for ART. This dissertation is an investigation and development of the system in order to create an effective solution for public health sector clinics. The investigation process is based upon a user-centred HCI (Human Computer Interface) model and it is carried out on five components of the system: cellphonemenu applications, SMS data submission and database integration, web applications, servers and user guide and training. This research has resulted in a progressive advancement and transformation of the prototype concept through the development, testing and pilot site implementation of an updated suite of components with valuable findings from usability testing. This study confirms that locally available ICTs can be developed to empower the resource limited clinic level public health sector to overcome some of the challenges of ART. This essentially contributes to bridging the “digital divide” and providing support in the developing context

Janssen is a manufacturing plant that works in furniture assembly. Component shortages often occurs, it will cause the increase of work in process (WIP) in assembly section. In previous studies, we analyze the root causes with FMEA and then it is resulted that router section is the constraint of the system. There are many non value added activities such as searching and transportation caused by a messy condition of work places and the devices that aren’t put in the right place. The impact is that the time allocated for every change over is higher than before. There are many components that are worked by the router section, so improvements are needed to minimize changes in over time. 5S method and the use of a new design of rack by TRIZ method are suggested for fixing the conditions of work environment. It is expected to eliminate non value added activities and changes in over time. Result shows that we can reduce non value activities in change over of regular components up to 41% and the elimination of this time is 41,6%. The non value activities in changeover of new items is 36,6% and this elimination of time is 53,3%. Key word : change over, kaizen, design, TRIZ metho

DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM USING WEIGHTING SIMILARITY MODEL FOR CONSTRUCTING GROUND-TRUTH DATA SET

    Get PDF
This research aims to form a ground-truth dataset in the entity-matching process used to detect duplication of records in a bibliographic database. The contribution of this research is the obtained dataset which can be used as reference in measuring and evaluating the entity matching model implemented in bibliographic databases. This aim was achieved by developing a decision support system through experts who act as decision makers in the bibliographic databases field to construct ground-truth datasets. The model used in this decision support system weights similarity by comparing each attribute of the pairwise record in the dataset. An expert who understands all characteristics of the research database can use the graphical user interface to evaluate and determine the pairwise record that meets the conditions, such as duplication of records. This research produces a ground-truth dataset using the decision support system approach

The purpose of this study is to determine the independence of students' learning in distance learning at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) Jember Regency. This research method uses a research method based on the philosophy of post positivism, which is used to examine the condition of natural objects. data source sampling was done purposively and snowballed. Data collection techniques with triangulation (combined), data analysis are inductive / qualitative, and the results of qualitative research emphasize meaning more than generalization. The research location is MAN 1 Jember, Jember Regency. The results of this study are in the form of educators at MAN 1 Jember are very dedicated in carrying out existing tasks. It can be seen that during distance learning during the pandemic, the board of educators still came to the school besides that by implementing strict health protocols. In its use, virtual learning brings students who are far away closer to continue learning and are not limited by time and space, but have not been able to be carried out due to existing technical constraints so that there is a need for readiness to use facilities and infrastructure. The conclusion in this study is the independence of student learning in distance learning at MAN 1 Jember in the form of learning activities that are given full flexibility over student learning activities with supervision within the scope of madrasahs. Flexibility is also given to students with the distribution of learning quotas that can be used to carry out student learning activities through room meeting applications such as Zoom meetings, google meet, Microsoft teams, WhatsApp Groups, Telegram, and so on. With the Covid-19 pandemic, it has not dampened the spirit of student learning independence and does not relax students' enthusiasm and learning outcome

To analyze the influence of vocabulary e-learning strategies to foster the oral interaction on students of ninth year at María Angélica Idrobo high school during the first quarter of the scholar term 2020.La presente investigación analiza el vocabulario limitado sobre las habilidades de interacción oral en los estudiantes de inglés como lengua extranjera en los curso de noveno año de una escuela pública de Ibarra.
