    Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to address some of the biggest challenges in education today, innovate teaching and learning practices, and ultimately accelerate the progress towards SDG 4. However, these rapid technological developments inevitably bring multiple risks and challenges, which have so far outpaced policy debates and regulatory frameworks. This publication offers guidance for policy-makers on how best to leverage the opportunities and address the risks, presented by the growing connection between AI and education. It starts with the essentials of AI: definitions, techniques and technologies. It continues with a detailed analysis of the emerging trends and implications of AI for teaching and learning, including how we can ensure the ethical, inclusive and equitable use of AI in education, how education can prepare humans to live and work with AI, and how AI can be applied to enhance education. It finally introduces the challenges of harnessing AI to achieve SDG 4 and offers concrete actionable recommendations for policy-makers to plan policies and programmes for local contexts

    The progress and sophistication of technological systems promise to accelerate the tourism sector, influencing business management at the commercial, human resources, and planning levels. The main objective of this thesis is to analyse the evolution of the literature on artificial intelligence and how it can be integrated with the constructs of engagement, intimate knowledge, authenticity, attachment, and psychological ownership. Several analyses were carried out to achieve the intended results. First, a comprehensive literature review was done, through the analysis of scientific articles, to understand the development of scientific research on artificial intelligence and user engagement. Secondly, a qualitative study was conducted to evaluate the impact of virtual assistants in the tourism industry, both at the organization and customer levels, using the thematic analysis method in structured interviews with top managers of the tourism sector. The results show that the benefits of using artificial intelligence outweigh the negative ones and will impact firm management. Finally, two quantitative studies were performed to analyse which factors influence customer engagement. The first study analyses the constructs of authenticity and attachment as motivators of engagement between tourists and virtual assistants, proving that these factors significantly influence the interaction between both. The second study investigates the communication between the virtual assistant and the user, emphasizing the importance of intimate knowledge, authenticity, and connection as psychological motivators. The results show that all three constructs significantly impact customer engagement with the virtual assistant

    What If ChatGPT Wrote It? A Research On Consumers Perception

    openThis research thesis can be divided in two parts, the first part (chapter 1, chapter 2 and chapter 3) focuses on the literature, while the second part (chapter 4) sees the unravelling of the research, starting from the research question and the methodology, and ending with the research itself and its results. Chapter 1, simply called “Artificial Intelligence”, starts with a series of definitions in order to set the ground for the subsequent chapters. Following, the history of AI is recalled from the 1950s till today, and finally I list the risks and bring real-life examples of the benefits of this technology. Chapter 2, “Artificial Intelligence in Marketing”, starts with a recollection of academic studies concerning AI marketing divided into four subjects (1) technical AI algorithms for solving specific marketing problems, (2) customer’s psychological reactions to AI, (3) effects of AI on jobs and society and (4) managerial and strategic issues related to AI, focusing on the last one in particular (Huang & Rust 2020). Then it shows through reports and case studies how companies are implementing AI in their marketing strategies. The chapter closes considering the benefits and the risks of using AI for marketing reasons and finally how consumers perceive it. Chapter 3 builds the foundations for the research, focusing on one of the most discussed AI tools, ChatGPT. It explains what kind of artificial intelligence it is, referencing also how OpenAI has improved its algorithm over time, but also its pervasive adoption and media coverage. Then I rely on Sohail’s (2023) taxonomy to explain the possible applications of ChatGPT in different fields – medicine, marketing, finance, software engineering, academic writing, education, environmental science, natural language processing and tourism. I focus on how marketers are in fact using it now, explaining the best practices to benefit the most from its use. Lastly, I consider its risks and limitations, like biases, hallucinations, inaccuracies, and ethical dilemmas. The last chapter is dedicated to the research, where I delve into the specific use of ChatGPT for writing copy and the perception of people towards it. To answer the research question « Does the perception of the copy changes when potential customers know that it has been written by ChatGPT? » I chose a well-known brand – IKEA –, rewrote the written content of a post using ChatGPT and surveyed 115 people on their perception of the copy. Even though the sample is not representative of the Italian population aged between 20 and 35, my analysis shows that there are in fact some statistical differences on the perception between those who knew and those who didn’t know that I used an artificial intelligence to write the promotional content

The book is a first in that it pays attention to the socio-cultural contexts of Responsible AI that is sensitive to African cultures and societies. It makes an important contribution to the global AI ethics discourse that often neglects AI narratives from Africa despite growing evidence of DDD in many domains. Nine original contributions provide useful insights to advance the understanding and implementation of Responsible AI in Africa, including discussions on epistemic injustice of global AI ethics, opportunities and challenges, an examination of AI co-bots and chatbots in an African work space, gender and AI, a consideration of African philosophies such as Ubuntu in the application of AI, African AI policy, and a look towards a future of Responsible AI in Africa.     Robot manipulation in human environments

They are often dynamic, difficult to predict, and beyond the control of a robot engineer. Fortunately, many characteristics of these settings can be used to a robot's advantage. Human environments are typically populated by people, and a robot can rely on the guidance and assistance of a human collaborator. Everyday objects exhibit common, task-relevant features that reduce the cognitive load required for the object's use. Many tasks can be achieved through the detection and control of these sparse perceptual features. And finally, a robot is more than a passive observer of the world. It can use its body to reduce its perceptual uncertainty about the world. In this thesis we present advances in robot manipulation that address the unique challenges of human environments. We describe the design of a humanoid robot named Domo, develop methods that allow Domo to assist a person in everyday tasks, and discuss general strategies for building robots that work alongside people in their homes and workplaces.by Aaron Ladd Edsinger.Ph.D

    The implications and impact of artificial intelligence, big data and HR analytics in HRM: A critical analysis of EU enterprises

    This study offers a critical evaluation of HR analytics. Specifically, the ideas and concepts surrounding HR analytics, such as what is HR analytics, the development of HR analytics in organizations and how it may impact organizational performance. To advance and answer these research questions, this study relied on systematic reviews, logistic regression, interaction effect analysis, and interviews with the European Company Survey (ECS) to assess the interrelationship between HR analytics and organizational factors. Based on the findings, certain key areas are addressed. Firstly, research question 1 has succeeded in developing a more systematic and coherent definition of HR analytics and artificial intelligence in HR. It has also successfully identified some factors that influence the use of HR analytics in organisations. In particular, the results of study two found that factors such as firm age, firm size, the complexity of the firm process and the type of variable pay systems have been shown to be key indicators of why certain companies use HR analytics while others do not. Furthermore, the results for study three also provided a bigger picture of how organizational factors might be the reasons for explaining firms’ financial returns when examining the relationship between variables. In particular, factors such as employee motivation, the use of HR analytics, and variable pay systems are also believed to be critical in determining which factors affect a company’s financial returns. In addition, the study provides additional knowledge for five specific areas in analytics and artificial intelligence in HR, namely firm characteristics, challenges, key reasons to adopt HR software, new trends and user traits
