Knowledge Extraction from Textual Resources through Semantic Web Tools and Advanced Machine Learning Algorithms for Applications in Various Domains
Nowadays there is a tremendous amount of unstructured data, often represented by texts, which is created and stored in variety of forms in many domains such as patients' health records, social networks comments, scientific publications, and so on. This volume of data represents an invaluable source of knowledge, but unfortunately it is challenging its mining for machines. At the same time, novel tools as well as advanced methodologies have been introduced in several domains, improving the efficacy and the efficiency of data-based services.
Following this trend, this thesis shows how to parse data from text with Semantic Web based tools, feed data into Machine Learning methodologies, and produce services or resources to facilitate the execution of some tasks. More precisely, the use of Semantic Web technologies powered by Machine Learning algorithms has been investigated in the Healthcare and E-Learning domains through not yet experimented methodologies. Furthermore, this thesis investigates the use of some state-of-the-art tools to move data from texts to graphs for representing the knowledge contained in scientific literature. Finally, the use of a Semantic Web ontology and novel heuristics to detect insights from biological data in form of graph are presented. The thesis contributes to the scientific literature in terms of results and resources. Most of the material presented in this thesis derives from research papers published in international journals or conference proceedings

Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Technology in Mathematics Teaching: Making and Strengthening "Connections and Connectivity" for Teaching Mathematics with Technology
The 15th International Conference on Technology in Mathematics Teaching (ICTMT 15) took place on September 13–16, 2022, in the Danish School of Education, Aarhus University, located on campus Emdrup, in the Northwestern district of Copenhagen, Denmark. There were a total of 66 participants from 15 different countries.
ICTMT 15 certainly focused on the impacts that the coronavirus pandemic has had on global mathematics education. However, it looked at the impacts of digital technology from a much wider perspective. In particular, the conference aimed to highlight how technology facilitates the multiple “Connections and Connectivity” between us all to achieve the goals of purposeful mathematics education in the early 21st century.
By “Connections” we mean the interrelationships between researchers, teachers, students, parents, policymakers, and industry (big and small). “Connectivity” includes oral, aural, textual and gestural communications as mediated by the internet, learning environments and classroom activities. Together, “Connections and Connectivity” describes the relationships between people, between different ideas and strategies to teach, and between people and environments. It offers a frame through which to interpret assessment in mathematics education as a more formative process from the point of view of both teachers and students

This volume represents the proceedings of the Workshops co-located with the 16th International Conference on ICT in Education, Research, and Industrial Applications, held in Kharkiv, Ukraine, in October 2020. It comprises 101 contributed papers that were carefully peer-reviewed and selected from 233 submissions for the five workshops: RMSEBT, TheRMIT, ITER, 3L-Person, CoSinE, MROL. The volume is structured in six parts, each presenting the contributions for a particular workshop. The topical scope of the volume is aligned with the thematic tracks of ICTERI 2020: (I) Advances in ICT Research; (II) Information Systems: Technology and Applications; (III) Academia/Industry ICT Cooperation; and (IV) ICT in Education.Цей збірник представляє матеріали семінарів, які були проведені в рамках 16-ї Міжнародної конференції з ІКТ в освіті, наукових дослідженнях та промислових застосуваннях, що відбулася в Харкові, Україна, у жовтні 2020 року. Examining university student satisfaction and barriers to taking online remote exams
Recent years have seen a surge in the popularity of online exams at universities, due to the greater convenience and flexibility they offer both students and institutions. Driven by the dearth of empirical data on distance learning students' satisfaction levels and the difficulties they face when taking online exams, a survey with 562 students at The Open University (UK) was conducted to gain insights into their experiences with this type of exam. Satisfaction was reported with the environment and exams, while work commitments and technical difficulties presented the greatest barriers. Gender, race and disability were also associated with different levels of satisfaction and barriers.
