Load flow studies on stand alone microgrid system in Ranau, Sabah
This paper presents the power flow or load flow analysis of Ranau microgrid, a
standalone microgrid in the district of Ranau,West Coast Division of Sabah. Power
flow for IEEE 9 bus also performed and analyzed. Power flow is define as an
important tool involving numerical analysis applied to power system. Power flow
uses simplified notation such as one line diagram and per-unit system focusing on
voltages, voltage angles, real power and reactive power. To achieved that purpose,
this research is done by analyzing the power flow analysis and calculation of all the
elements in the microgrid such as generators, buses, loads, transformers,
transmission lines using the Power Factory DIGSilent 14 software to calculate the
power flow. After the analysis and calculations, the results were analysed and
compared

Introduction
The use of the term âlabâ, more commonly seen in the physical and natural sciences, conjures a sense of a safe haven for experimentation, focused problem solving and solution creation. As laboratories for innovation have become part and parcel of innovation in the UN system, there is a pressing need to understand more about what these labs can truly offer and whether they should be isolated, instead of mainstreaming innovation into an agency.
This research seeks to understand the way in which innovation labs across several UN agencies are being used to foster new ways of operating within the UNâs bureaucratic structures. Asks three key questions to help unpack how innovation labs are taking shape and to inform lessons for future labs about what works and what does not, in trying to achieve a culture of innovation and improved humanitarian solutions. These questions are:

âą What motivated their initiation? What are their aims and objectives?
âą What impact have they had and how is the impact being measured?

Mid-term Evaluation of NGO Programmes Under EEA Grants 2009-2014
The EEA Financial Mechanism (2009-2014) have committed 160,4 million to support seventeen NGO Programmes in sixteen countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Spain. The overall objective of the EEA Grants NGO Programmes is strengthened civil society development and enhanced contribution to social justice, democracy and sustainable development in each of the beneficiary countries. As of 30 of June 2014, 957 projects in total of 53,793,561 have been supported mainly in the fields of democracy, citizen participation, human rights, social justice and empowerment, sustainable development and provision of basic welfare services. The mid-term evaluation of the NGO Programmes funded by the EEA Financial Mechanism (2009- 2014) is an independent formative evaluation. Its objective was two-fold: 1) to assess the progress and needs for improvement of the current Programmes, and 2) to inform policies for the next financial period. The main purpose of this evaluation was to provide an expert independent mid-term assessment of the contribution of the EEA Grants 2009-2014 to the NGO sectors in the beneficiary states operating NGO Programmes. The evaluation was of dual nature: (1) of a formative evaluation to identify progress and needs for improvement of the current Programmes and (2) of a forward oriented strategic review to inform policies for the next financial period

Employers' policies for third age employment â the case for action and the rational for reaction
This paper reports on findings from a study which explores employersâ perceptions of the careers of those in third age employment and the extent to which these organisations have in place policies and practices to manage older worker careers. Drawing on interviews with UK HR managers and advisory bodies, the study finds that there was an absence of formal policies which addressed the career needs of older works despite employers being aware of the issue associated with an aging workforce. Instead employers responded to career related requests from older workers on an ad hoc basis as they felt that specific policies for this group of people would potentially create legal issues for the organisation. Employers also believed that the aged workforce had little impact on their business and as a result did not engage in collective dialogue with older workers about their requirements and instead made assumptions about their career needs

Governance in the age of social machines: the web observatory
The World Wide Web has provided unprecedented access to information; as humans and machines increasingly interact with it they provide more and more data. The challenge is how to analyse and interpret this data within the context that it was created, and to present it in a way that both researchers and practitioners can more easily make sense of.
The first step is to have access to open and interoperable data sets, which Governments around the world are increasingly subscribing to. But having âopenâ data is just the beginning and does not necessarily lead to better decision making or policy development. This is because data do not provide the answers â they need to be analysed, interpreted and understood within the context of their creation, and the business imperative of the organisation using them. The major corporate entities, such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple and Facebook, have the capabilities to do this, but are driven by their own commercial imperatives, and their data are largely siloed and held within âwalled gardensâ of information. All too often governments and non-profit groups lack these capabilities, and are driven by very different mandates. In addition they have far more complex community relationships, and must abide by regulatory constraints which dictate how they can use the data they hold. As such they struggle to maximise the value of this emerging âdigital currencyâ and are therefore largely beholden to commercial vendors. What has emerged is a public-private data ecosystem that has huge policy implications (including the twin challenges of privacy and security). Many within the public sector lack the skills to address these challenges because they lack the literacy required within the digital context.
This project seeks to address some of these problems by bringing together a safe and secure Australian-based data platform (facilitating the sharing of data, analytics and visualisation) with policy analysis and governance expertise in order to create a collaborative working model of a âGovernment Web Observatoryâ. This neutral space, hosted by an Australian university, can serve as a powerful complement to existing Open Data initiatives in Australia, and enable research and education to combine to support the development of a more digitally literate public service.
The project aims to explore where, and in which contexts, people, things, data and the Internet meet and result in evolving observable phenomena which can inform better government policy development and service delivery.
