Soft output bit error rate estimation for WCDMA

    Get PDF
This paper introduces a method that computes an estimation of the bit error rate (BER) based on the RAKE receiver soft output only. For this method no knowledge is needed about the channel characteristics nor the precise external conditions. Simulations show that the mean error of the estimation is below 2%, with only a small variance. Implementation issues for a practical use of the method are discussed

Determining the optimal decision delay parameter for a linear equalizer

    No full text
The achievable bit error rate of a linear equalizer is crucially determined by the choice of a decision delay parameter. This brief paper presents a simple method for the efficient determination of the optimal decision delay parameter that results in the best bit error rate performance for a linear equaliz

Bit error rate reduction by PSO in indoor wireless communication

[[abstract]]In this paper, a new ultra wideband (UWB) circular antenna array (UCAA) combining particle swarm optimizer (PSO) to minimize the bit error rate (BER) is proposed. The novelties of our approach is not only choosing BER as the object function, but also consider the antenna feed length effect of each array element. The strong point of the PSO is that it can find out the solution even if the performance index cannot be formulated by simple equations. Simulation results show that the synthesized antenna array pattern is effective to focus maximum gain to the LOS path. As a result, the BER can be reduced substantially in indoor UWB communication system.[[notice]]需補地點及國別[[conferencetype]]國際[[conferencedate]]20101117~2010112

Bit error rate performance of high-speed tunnel communication

    Get PDF
[[abstract]]The bit error rate performance for high-speed personal communication service in tunnels with and without traffic is investigated. The impulse response of the tunnel is computed by shooting and bouncing ray/image techniques. Binary data with phase shift keying modulation are transmitted over the multipath channel and coherent match filters are used as receivers. The bit error rate for communication in tunnels with and without traffic is calculated. Numerical results have showed that the multipath effect by the vehicles in the tunnel is an important factor for bit error rate performance. In addition, the effect of space diversity techniques on mitigating the multipath fading is also investigated[[conferencetype]]國際[[conferencedate]]19970811~19970814[[conferencelocation]]Natal, Brazi

Adaptive MBER space-time DFE assisted multiuser detection for SDMA systems

    No full text
In this contribution we propose a space-time decision feedback equalization (ST-DFE) assisted multiuser detection (MUD) scheme for multiple antenna aided space division multiple access systems. A minimum bit error rate (MBER) design is invoked for the MUD, which is shown to be capable of improving the achievable bit error rate performance over that of the minimum mean square error (MMSE) design. An adaptive MBER ST-DFE-MUD is proposed using the least bit error rate algorithm, which is demonstrated to consistently outperform the least mean square (LMS) algorithm, while achieving a lower computational complexity than the LMS algorithm for the binary signalling scheme. Simulation results demonstrate that theMBER ST-DFE-MUD is more robust to channel estimation errors as well as to error propagation imposed by decision feedback errors, compared to the MMSE ST-DFE-MUD
