    THE EFFECT OF LEARNING DEMONSTRATION METHOD ON THE LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT IN SMAW PRACTICE AT SMK N SUKAMAJU

    The research purposes are : (1) to know the learning achievement of students in grade XI SMK N Sukamaju on manual arc welding subject of horizontal fillet positions which are taught with the demonstration method, (2) to know the learning achievement of students in grade XI SMK N Sukamaju on manual arc welding subject of horizontal fillet positions which are taught with the lecture method, (3) to know the difference in learning achievement of students in grade XI SMK N Sukamaju manual arc welding subject of horizontal fillet connections which are taught by demonstration method with taught by lecture method The research is one of pretest-posttest Control Group DesignS which compare an experiment group and the control group. This research i population of the study was a XI class student of Welding Engineering Department SMK N Sukamaju with 28 students. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistical techniques. The research product shows: (1) the learning achievement of students in grade XI SMK N Sukamaju on manual arc welding subject of horizontal fillet positions which are taught with the demonstration method (experiment group) obtained the highest score of 87, lowest score of 83, and the mean amounted to 84,21; (2) the learning achievement of students in grade XI SMK N Sukamaju on manual arc welding subject of horizontal fillet positions which were taught with the lecture method (control group) obtained the highest score of 81, lowest score of 77, and the mean amounted to 78,5 ; (3) there were differences in learning achievement of students in grade XI SMK N Sukamaju manual arc welding subject of horizontal fillet connections which were taught by demonstration method with taught by lecture method. The differences shown by mean value of experiment group (84,21) was higher than the mean value of control group (78,5)

    Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengembangkan suatu produk baru yang berupa modul mengelas dengan proses Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) di SMK N 2 Wonosari. Tujuan lain dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui tahapan pengembangan dan kelayakan dari modul mengelas dengan proses Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) di SMK N 2 Wonosari sesuai dengan Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (KTSP) di SMK N 2 Wonosari. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian dan pengembangan (Research and Development). Pengembangan produk baru berupa modul mata pelajaran kompetensi jurusan teknik las melalui beberapa tahap, yaitu (1) analisa kebutuhan yang terdiri dari (a) observasi lapangan, (b) analisa kebutuhan media; (2) evaluasi, (3) tahap kedua perancangan yang terdiri atas, (a) menyusun draf awal, (4) evaluasi, (5) tahap ketiga penelitian dan implementasi yang terdiri atas, (a) validasi perangkat, (b) analisa dan revisi, (c) uji coba perorangan, (d) evaluasi, (e) uji coba kelompok, (f) evaluasi, (g) uji lapangan, (6) analisa dan evaluasi, (7) modul. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada Siswa kelas X Jurusan Teknik Las SMK N 2 Wonosari. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan instrumen berupa angket. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis kualitatif dan kuantitatif untuk mengetahui kelayakan modul mengelas dengan proses Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) di SMK N 2 Wonosari. Dari uji kelayakan terhadap modul mengelas dengan proses Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) yang dikembangkan, menurut penilaian dosen ahli materi memperoleh kriteria sangat layak, penilaian Guru Program Studi Teknik Las sebagai ahli materi memperoleh kriteria penilaian sangat layak, penilaian dari ahli media memperoleh kriteria penilaian sangat layak. Dari uji coba perorangan mendapatkan kriteria sangat layak. Dari uji coba kelompok kecil mendapatkan kriteria penilaian sangat layak. dari uji coba lapangan memperoleh kriteria penilaian sangat layak. Berdasarkan data tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa modul mengelas dengan proses Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) yang dikembangkan sudah baik sehingga layak digunakan untuk mendukung pembelajaran mengelas dengan proses Shielded metal Arc Welding (SMAW) di SMK N 2 Wonosari

    With the impending development of FSW tools for steel with useful lifetimes, attention has turned to the mechanical properties of the welds that can be made in a range of industrially significant steels. This work reports on a comparative study undertaken to examine the use of friction stir and submerged arc welding on DH36 and E36 shipbuilding steels. The study made an assessment of the distortion induced in fabricating plates by the two welding techniques, and provides initial comparative data on weld tensile strength, toughness and fatigue life. In each case, friction stir welding was shown to outperform submerged arc welding

    The efficacy of teaching oxyacetylene welding prior to gas metal arc welding for introductory materials and process courses in industrial technology

    Industrial technology programs around the country must be sensitive to the demands of manufacturing and industry as programs continue to replace vocational curriculum with high-tech alternatives. Entry-level managers who understand the practical as well as the theoretical nature of technology are still required. Much of the facility and vocational equipment infrastructures at institutions remain intact, albeit a bit dusty, and should be utilized to revitalize or reorganize a hot metals curriculum to meet the demands of industry. This research examines a curriculum that bolsters manual gas metal arc welding skills within the current time constraints of lab/lecture curriculums by allotting more hands-on gas metal arc welding time to students without sacrificing or impeding other subject matter. Simply put, which approach to teaching welding yields most effectively and efficiently the skill sets required by industrial technology students?;The study compared three different instructional methods for teaching arc welding: (1) oxyfuel welding with filler, (2) oxyfuel welding without filler, and (3) gas metal arc welding. All three groups tested on gas metal arc welding to determine which, if any, instructional method yielded the skill sets required for gas metal arc welding by industrial technology students. The results to the study indicated insufficient evidence to suggest any significant difference between the three groups at the 0.05 alpha level with the limited practice time allotted to each group. The study concluded that technology programs, in particular those with welding, must have students and industry in mind---this means that gas metal arc welding is a critical component of the industrial technology curriculum. Under the conditions of this study, teaching oxyfuel welding prior to gas metal arc welding does not impact gas metal arc welding skills and removing oxyfuel welding may be an option for programs that struggle to find time for both technologies. Furthermore, gas metal arc welding was found to be used more extensively in industry and may therefore be considered a more valuable skill than oxyfuel welding for industrial technology students

    In research organizations and industries, most widely used welding methods are shield metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and submerged arc welding (SAW). The SAW process is often preferred because it offers high production rate, high melting efficiency, ease of automation and low operator skill requirement. This study expose the different works have been done in the past for improving different properties of welded material.
