The application of the popular mobile social media platform We- Chat in library and information services in China was examined. Thirty-two out of a total of thirty-nine university libraries of Project 985 had established official WeChat accounts by the end of 2015. The study explores the use of WeChat from six aspects, including basic profile information of an account and interactivity of WeChat public account. Through analysis of the data and comparison with the results of previous research, the study indicates that the library WeChat platforms have improved in many respects, including official account authentication and self-service through WeChat, since the beginning of WeChat application at university libraries in November 2012. Although the library WeChat accounts have become a more effective tool in general, improvements are still needed to provide maximum benefit to library users in an effort to empower users, especially younger ones

Research on the Impact of Information Quality on Educational WeChat Official Account Users’ Continued Use Intention: Based on the ECM-IS Model

Along with the vigorous development of WeChat official accounts, the number of education WeChat official accounts is increasing day by day. Society’s emphasis on education issues extends to the WeChat Official Accounts and other social networking platforms. How to attract users and maintain the willingness of users to continue to use is an important issue for the operators of such public accounts to consider. Information is the main content of the educational WeChat official account, and the evaluation of its quality will directly affect the perception of the educational WeChat official account and then affect the user\u27s willingness to use it. Therefore, based on the perspective of information quality and the ECM-IS model as the research model, this paper subdivides information quality into five dimensions, including comprehensiveness, timeliness, accuracy, relevance, and perceived interestingness, and establishes a theoretical model of the influence of educational WeChat public account information quality on college students\u27 willingness to continue using. This study will have a certain reference value for the education of WeChat operators\u27 practical operation and user stickiness

An Empirical Study on Android for Saving Non-shared Data on Public Storage

With millions of apps that can be downloaded from official or third-party market, Android has become one of the most popular mobile platforms today. These apps help people in all kinds of ways and thus have access to lots of user's data that in general fall into three categories: sensitive data, data to be shared with other apps, and non-sensitive data not to be shared with others. For the first and second type of data, Android has provided very good storage models: an app's private sensitive data are saved to its private folder that can only be access by the app itself, and the data to be shared are saved to public storage (either the external SD card or the emulated SD card area on internal FLASH memory). But for the last type, i.e., an app's non-sensitive and non-shared data, there is a big problem in Android's current storage model which essentially encourages an app to save its non-sensitive data to shared public storage that can be accessed by other apps. At first glance, it seems no problem to do so, as those data are non-sensitive after all, but it implicitly assumes that app developers could correctly identify all sensitive data and prevent all possible information leakage from private-but-non-sensitive data. In this paper, we will demonstrate that this is an invalid assumption with a thorough survey on information leaks of those apps that had followed Android's recommended storage model for non-sensitive data. Our studies showed that highly sensitive information from billions of users can be easily hacked by exploiting the mentioned problematic storage model. Although our empirical studies are based on a limited set of apps, the identified problems are never isolated or accidental bugs of those apps being investigated. On the contrary, the problem is rooted from the vulnerable storage model recommended by Android. To mitigate the threat, we also propose a defense framework

Why Libraries are Giving too Much Importance to Social Media? A Review Note

    Get PDF
The prime purpose of the study is to investigate the concept of social media; the impact of social media, the importance of social media, and the issues of using social media in libraries. The present study was based on a qualitative research method. The relevant data has been accessed and retrieved from google.com and Google scholars. The data has been reviewed according to the set of research questions. The research findings revealed that there is a massive impact of social media on library sources and services. Social media are very important for libraries to promote their services and sources. On the other hand, the libraries are facing too many issues which are creating problems in the adoption of social media in the libraries. It is obvious that social media have great potential to reach library customers and it helps libraries to provide up to date and timing information to their customers. It would be better to resolve all the issues before launching social media in the libraries

Empowering Migrant Workers and Labor NGOs in China: Creating a Law Searching Tool through a Design Science Approach

    Get PDF
Labor NGOs in China has been utilizing various social media tools, such as WeChat for networking workers and promotion. In the year 2017 WeChat Mini Program was released, allowing developers to create “sub-application” within WeChat. This research evolves from a laws-searching WeChat Mini Program development project, which will adopt a design science approach, follow the design science research methodology (DSRM) process model, and measure the effect of the WeChat Mini Program with the concepts from information systems success model and post-adoption behaviors. We propose that the law-searching WeChat Mini Program can sever labor NGOs in terms of legal service and promotion

Embedded Information Literacy Instruction in the Mobile Environment: A Case Study

    Get PDF
Information literacy instruction in various countries has expanded in a variety of ways. At universities, it has mainly taken the form of  credit-based courses, lectures, and embedded instruction. While European and American universities carry out more embedded instruction, universities in China focus more on credit-based courses and lectures, leaving embedded instruction in an exploratory stage. This paper is a preliminary study of a research project that aims to investigate the department-based, embedded information literacy instruction among the libraries of 42 "Double-First Class" universities in China. Using East China Normal University Library as an example, this paper discusses the teaching mode, teaching philosophy, teaching design, teaching methods and contents in order to explore how embedded information literacy instruction can make use of the mobile Internet platform. The specific areas to be examined include teaching resources, enhancing classroom interactions, and after-class feed-pushing as part of teaching support. Finally, some recommendations are put forward for the extension and expansion of embedded information literacy instruction

The combination of text and image has had a long history. New ways of combination brought by the development of technology and society require a fresh way of studying the relation between text and image. Theoretical development, specifically, Cognitive Linguistics, meets the requirement. As a cognition-oriented multimodality study, this thesis delves into two interdependent research questions: F...学位:文学硕士院系专业:外文学院_外国语言学及应用语言学学号:1232014115268
