E-banking services in Ethiopia are increasing among low-income populations; however, with over 53 million mobile service users countrywide, more than 85% of the population still lacks access to banking services. A single case study was used to explore e-business strategies that bank managers use to promote the adoption of electronic banking services to the unbanked population in Ethiopia. The extended resource-based view of strategy served as the conceptual framework for this study. Data were collected from interviews with 12 experienced bank managers from leading commercial bank in Ethiopia. Data were analyzed using coding techniques and word clustering, with the help of qualitative data analysis software. After member checking and methodological triangulation, data were sorted into 5 themes including ensuring leadership, creating accessibility, fostering customers\u27 acceptance, leveraging unique features and organizational resources, and building an e-banking ecosystem. The result showed that bank managers need to develop a customer-centric organizational posture and they should focus to build e-banking ecosystem inside and outside the country so that they can realize their vision to become global competitors. The findings from the study may contribute to positive social change for the unbanked communities in Ethiopia by informing bank managers options of e-banking adoption strategies thereby improve the convenience and accessibility of banking services

The aim of this paper is to examine the relationship between organizational ethical climate and corporate environmental citizenship. Drawing upon Resource-Based View (RBV) theory, this study develops a research framework to explain the relationship between organizational ethical climate and corporate environmental citizenship. A quantitative approach was employed to test the relationship between organizational ethical climate and corporate environmental citizenship. Grade 7 construction companies were selected as the target respondents. Systematic sampling technique was used to ensure that every member of the sampled population has equal chances of being selected as a respondent. However, self-administered questionnaires were used to collect data. The findings showed that organizational ethical climate is significantly related to corporate environmental citizenship. It also showed that if the construction companies wish to optimize corporate environmental citizenship, they need to prioritize organizational ethical climate. In addition, discussion, implications, directions for future research, and conclusion of the study were also highlighted

Institutional stakeholder perceptions of barriers to Green IT policy in Nigeria

This article inductively identifies barriers and limitations to Green IT policy as perceived by IT and environmental regulators in Nigeria. Qualitative interviews were conducted with the set of senior executive managers of Nigerian regulators who share Green IT as a key remit. The data were analysed using inductive thematic analysis. Although mostly reactive, Green IT policy in Nigeria has mainly targeted e-waste and incentivized innovative uses of renewable energy. However, insufficient financial provision towards the promotion of Green IT was perceived to hinder efficient regulatory activities. Similarly, poor energy infrastructure and insufficient collection and recycling facilities prevented the regulators from enforcing Green IT strategies. Major impeding barriers were also reported at the levels of policy ownership and control. This article is valuable to public administration agencies who must collaborate to address the issues of information technology/information systems and sustainability. It exposes regulators’ perceived difficulty to establish lines of accountability between agencies that intervene in Green IT policy, from the perspective of a developing country. Each regulator is currently focused on taking individual efforts and steps which are perceived to lead to conflict in policies and overlapping authority. As remedial action we propose tighter coordination amongst regulators who share Green IT as a key remit

Applicability of resource-based environmental studies in Green IT

Purpose: The aim of this paper is to review the firm's resources, as identified by the researcher in previous environmental studies, from the theoretical lens of a resource-based view (RBV). This will help to identify the firm's resources for the future Green IT studies. Design/methodology/approach: The objective was first achieved by reviewing the environmental resources for the firm's performance. The approach uses literature reviews of environmental studies having related keywords in literature databases. Using content analysis approach, the authors selected ten empirical environmental studies and developed the typology of the firm's environmental resources. The frequently highlighted constructs are then discussed in the context of Green IT. Findings: This review shows the importance of continuous innovation, stakeholder integration, shared visions and early adoption which were frequently highlighted in RBV studies. The literature studies concerning Green IT also point out the importance of these resources for Green IT performance. Drawing upon this, it is also believed that these firm resources identified from environmental literature are also applicable in Green IT context. Research limitations/implications: Some limitations of this study have been encountered and are as follows: First, the search was performed within a limited time frame. Second, different search terms might have yielded more results. Third, the classification of the firm's resources might be different from the point of view of others. Nonetheless, the authors believe this review can be used as a guide for future integrative resource-based Green IT studies. Future confirmatory studies could empirically validate these relationships. The role of mediating and moderating variables that could enhance Green IT practice can also be further investigated. This could contribute to the knowledge concerning the application of RBV in the Green IT context. Originality/value: The paper helps to shed light on a firm's resources for environmental capability coming from different industries, which contributes towards an understanding of these theories from wider perspectives, including environmental sustainability, in the IT contex
