New summation inequalities and their applications to discrete-time delay systems
This paper provides new summation inequalities in both single and double
forms to be used in stability analysis of discrete-time systems with
time-varying delays. The potential capability of the newly derived inequalities
is demonstrated by establishing less conservative stability conditions for a
class of linear discrete-time systems with an interval time-varying delay in
the framework of linear matrix inequalities. The effectiveness and least
conservativeness of the derived stability conditions are shown by academic and

Dissipative Stabilization of Linear Systems with Time-Varying General Distributed Delays (Complete Version)
New methods are developed for the stabilization of a linear system with
general time-varying distributed delays existing at the system's states, inputs
and outputs. In contrast to most existing literature where the function of
time-varying delay is continuous and bounded, we assume it to be bounded and
measurable. Furthermore, the distributed delay kernels can be any
square-integrable function over a bounded interval, where the kernels are
handled directly by using a decomposition scenario without using
approximations. By constructing a Krasovski\u{i} functional via the application
of a novel integral inequality, sufficient conditions for the existence of a
dissipative state feedback controller are derived in terms of matrix
inequalities without utilizing the existing reciprocally convex combination
lemmas. The proposed synthesis (stability) conditions, which take dissipativity
into account, can be either solved directly by a standard numerical solver of
semidefinite programming if they are convex, or reshaped into linear matrix
inequalities, or solved via a proposed iterative algorithm. To the best of our
knowledge, no existing methods can handle the synthesis problem investigated in
this paper. Finally, numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the

Robust filtering for stochastic genetic regulatory networks with time-varying delay

The official published version can be obtained from the link - Copyright 2009 Elsevier LtdThis paper addresses the robust filtering problem for a class of linear genetic regulatory networks (GRNs) with stochastic disturbances, parameter uncertainties and time delays. The parameter uncertainties are assumed to reside in a polytopic region, the stochastic disturbance is state-dependent described by a scalar Brownian motion, and the time-varying delays enter into both the translation process and the feedback regulation process. We aim to estimate the true concentrations of mRNA and protein by designing a linear filter such that, for all admissible time delays, stochastic disturbances as well as polytopic uncertainties, the augmented state estimation dynamics is exponentially mean square stable with an expected decay rate. A delay-dependent linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach is first developed to derive sufficient conditions that guarantee the exponential stability of the augmented dynamics, and then the filter gains are parameterized in terms of the solution to a set of LMIs. Note that LMIs can be easily solved by using standard software packages. An improved stability criterion for linear time-varying delay systems
This paper considers the stability problem of linear systems with time-varying delays. A modified Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional (LKF) is constructed, which consists of delay-dependent matrices and double integral items under two time-varying subintervals. Based on the modified LKF, a less conservative stability criterion than some previous ones is derived. Furthermore, to obtain a tighter bound of the integral terms, the quadratic generalized free-weighting matrix inequality (QGFMI) is fully applied to different delay subintervals, which further reduces the conservatism of the stability criterion. Finally, three numerical examples are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach
STABILITY AND PERFORMANCE OF NETWORKED CONTROL SYSTEMS
Network control systems (NCSs), as one of the most active research areas, are arousing comprehensive concerns along with the rapid development of network. This dissertation mainly discusses the stability and performance of NCSs into the following two parts.
In the first part, a new approach is proposed to reduce the data transmitted in networked control systems (NCSs) via model reduction method. Up to our best knowledge, we are the first to propose this new approach in the scientific and engineering society. The "unimportant" information of system states vector is truncated by balanced truncation method (BTM) before sending to the networked controller via network based on the balance property of the remote controlled plant controllability and observability. Then, the exponential stability condition of the truncated NCSs is derived via linear matrix inequality (LMI) forms. This method of data truncation can usually reduce the time delay and further improve the performance of the NCSs. In addition, all the above results are extended to the switched NCSs.
The second part presents a new robust sliding mode control (SMC) method for general uncertain time-varying delay stochastic systems with structural uncertainties and the Brownian noise (Wiener process). The key features of the proposed method are to apply singular value decomposition (SVD) to all structural uncertainties, to introduce adjustable parameters for control design along with the SMC method, and new Lyapunov-type functional. Then, a less-conservative condition for robust stability and a new robust controller for the general uncertain stochastic systems are derived via linear matrix inequality (LMI) forms. The system states are able to reach the SMC switching surface as guaranteed in probability 1 by the proposed control rule. Furthermore, the novel Lyapunov-type functional for the uncertain stochastic systems is used to design a new robust control for the general case where the derivative of time-varying delay can be any bounded value (e.g., greater than one). It is theoretically proved that the conservatism of the proposed method is less than the previous methods.
All theoretical proofs are presented in the dissertation. The simulations validate the correctness of the theoretical results and have better performance than the existing results
An improved stability criterion for discrete-time time-delayed Lur’e systemwith sector-bounded nonlinearities
The absolute stability problem of discrete-time time-delayed Lur\u27e systems with sector bounded nonlinearities is investigated in this paper. Firstly, a modified Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) is designed with augmenting additional double summation terms, which complements more coupling information between the delay intervals and other system state variables than some previous LKFs. Secondly, some improved delay-dependent absolute stability criteria based on linear matrix inequality form (LMI) are proposed via the modified LKF and the relaxed free-matrix-based summation inequality technique application. The stability criteria are less conservative than some results previously proposed. The reduction of the conservatism mainly relies on the full use of the relaxed summation inequality technique based on the modified LKF. Finally, two common numerical examples are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach
STABILITY, FINITE-TIME STABILITY AND PASSIVITY CRITERIA FOR DISCRETE-TIME DELAYED NEURAL NETWORKS
In this paper, we present the problem of stability, finite-time stability and passivity for discrete-time neural networks (DNNs) with variable delays. For the purposes of stability analysis, an augmented Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) with single and double summation terms and several augmented vectors is proposed by decomposing the time-delay interval into two non-equidistant subintervals. Then, by using the Wirtinger-based inequality, reciprocally and extended reciprocally convex combination lemmas, tight estimations for sum terms in the forward difference of LKF are given. In order to relax the existing results, several zero equalities are introduced and stability criteria are proposed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The main objective for the finite-time stability and passivity analysis is how to effectively evaluate the finite-time passivity conditions for DNNs. To achieve this, some weighted summation inequalities are proposed for application to a finite-sum term appearing in the forward difference of LKF, which helps to ensure that the considered delayed DNN is passive. The derived passivity criteria are presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the proposed methodology
Delay-dependent criterion for exponential stability analysis of neural networks with time-varying delays
This note investigates the problem of exponential stability of neural networks with time-varying delays. To derive a less conservative stability condition, a novel augmented Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) which includes triple and quadruple-integral terms is employed. In order to reduce the complexity of the stability test, the convex combination method is utilized to derive an improved delay dependent stability criterion in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The superiority of the proposed approach is demonstrated by two comparative examples
