Optimal analog wavelet bases construction using hybrid optimization algorithm

    Get PDF
An approach for the construction of optimal analog wavelet bases is presented. First, the definition of an analog wavelet is given. Based on the definition and the least-squares error criterion, a general framework for designing optimal analog wavelet bases is established, which is one of difficult nonlinear constrained optimization problems. Then, to solve this problem, a hybrid algorithm by combining chaotic map particle swarm optimization (CPSO) with local sequential quadratic programming (SQP) is proposed. CPSO is an improved PSO in which the saw tooth chaotic map is used to raise its global search ability. CPSO is a global optimizer to search the estimates of the global solution, while the SQP is employed for the local search and refining the estimates. Benefiting from good global search ability of CPSO and powerful local search ability of SQP, a high-precision global optimum in this problem can be gained. Finally, a series of optimal analog wavelet bases are constructed using the hybrid algorithm. The proposed method is tested for various wavelet bases and the improved performance is compared with previous works.Peer reviewedFinal Published versio

Optimization Design Flow of Integrated Circuits based on Machine Learning Approaches

    Get PDF
Nowadays, the increased complexity of analog/digital circuits and the extremelly wide range of specifications tend to change how an integrated-circuit designer addresses circuit optimization. A traditional analog engineer likes to use some intuition when designing circuits, as a second step following paper-pencil analysis. However, the numerous parameters that influence the circuit IV in modern transistors do not provide good guesses. Moreover, an optimization based on multiple parameter sweep helps only when the design space is reduced, which is not the case in modern designs. The present thesis, developed at INTEL (in Munich site, Germany), addresses new paradigms of circuit optimization. The proposed work relies on the use of machine learning techniques applied to the design of complex CMOS systems

Performance Evaluation of Evolutionary Algorithms for Analog Integrated Circuit Design Optimisation

An automated sizing approach for analog circuits using evolutionary algorithms is presented in this paper. A targeted search of the search space has been implemented using a particle generation function and a repair-bounds function that has resulted in faster convergence to the optimal solution. The algorithms are tuned and modified to converge to a better optimal solution with less standard deviation for multiple runs compared to standard versions. Modified versions of the artificial bee colony optimisation algorithm, genetic algorithm, grey wolf optimisation algorithm, and particle swarm optimisation algorithm are tested and compared for the optimal sizing of two operational amplifier topologies. An extensive performance evaluation of all the modified algorithms showed that the modifications have resulted in consistent performance with improved convergence for all the algorithms. The implementation of parallel computation in the algorithms has reduced run time. Among the considered algorithms, the modified artificial bee colony optimisation algorithm gave the most optimal solution with consistent results across multiple runs

Since its emergence, quantum computing has enabled a wide spectrum of new possibilities and advantages, including its efficiency in accelerating computational processes exponentially. This has directed much research towards completely novel ways of solving a wide variety of engineering problems, especially through describing quantum versions of many mathematical tools such as Fourier and Laplace transforms, differential equations, systems of linear equations, and optimization techniques, among others. Exploration and development in this direction will revolutionize the world of engineering. In this manuscript, we review the state of the art of these emerging techniques from the perspective of quantum computer development and performance optimization, with a focus on the most common mathematical tools that support engineering applications. This review focuses on the application of these mathematical tools to quantum computer development and performance improvement/optimization. It also identifies the challenges and limitations related to the exploitation of quantum computing and outlines the main opportunities for future contributions. This review aims at offering a valuable reference for researchers in fields of engineering that are likely to turn to quantum computing for solutions. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-01-020 Full Text: PD

Ant Colony Optimization for Optimal Low-Pass State Variable Filter Sizing

    Get PDF
In analog filter design, discrete components values such as resistors (R) and capacitors (C) are selected from the series following constant values chosen. Exhaustive search on all possible combinations for an optimized design is not feasible. In this paper, we present an application of the Ant Colony Optimization technique (ACO) in order to selected optimal values of resistors and capacitors from different manufactured series to satisfy the filter design criteria. Three variants of the Ant Colony Optimization are applied, namely, the AS (Ant System), the MMAS (Min-Max AS) and the ACS (Ant Colony System), for the optimal sizing of the Low-Pass State Variable Filter. SPICE simulations are used to validate the obtained results/performances which are compared with already published works
