    Incentives and managerial experience in multi-taskteams: evidence from within a firm

    This paper exploits a quasi-experimental setting to estimate the impact thata multi-dimensional group incentive scheme had on branch performance in a largedistribution firm. The scheme, which is based on the Balanced Scorecard, wasimplemented in all branches in one division, but not in another. Branches from thesecond division are used as a control group. Our results suggest that the balancedscorecard had some impact, but that it varied with branch characteristics, and inparticular, branches with more experienced managers were better able to respond tothe new incentives.     This thesis presents a study of Business Intelligence and Analytics (BI&A) adoption in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Although the importance of BI&A is widely accepted, empirical research shows SMEs still lag in BI&A proliferation. Thus, it is crucial to understand the phenomenon of BI&A adoption in SMEs. This thesis will investigate and explore BI&A adoption in SMEs, addressing the main research question: How can we understand the phenomenon of BI&A adoption in SMEs? The adoption term in this thesis refers to all the IS adoption stages, including investment, implementation, utilization, and value creation. This research uses a combination of a literature review, a qualitive exploratory approach, and a ranking-type Delphi study with a grounded Delphi approach. The empirical part includes interviews with 38 experts and Delphi surveys with 39 experts from various Norwegian industries. The research strategy investigates the factors influencing BI&A adoption in SMEs. The study examined the investment, implementation, utilization, and value creation of BI&A technologies in SMEs. A thematic analysis was adopted to collate the qualitative expert interview data and search for potential themes. The Delphi survey findings were further examined using the grounded Delphi method. To better understand the study’s findings, three theoretical perspectives were applied: resource-based view theory, dynamic capabilities, and IS value process models. The thesis’ research findings are presented in five articles published in international conference proceedings and journals.     SMEs and virtual R&D teams: a motive channel for relationship between SMEs

    In today?s dynamic marketplace, manufacturing companies are under strong pressure to introduce new products for long-term survival with their competitors. Nevertheless, every company cannot cope up progressively or immediately with the market requirements due to knowledge dynamics being experienced in the competitive milieu. Increased competition and reduced product life cycles put force upon companies to develop new products faster. In response to these pressing needs, there should be some new approach compatible in flexible circumstances. This paper presents a solution based on the popular Stage-Gate system, which is closely linked with virtual team approach. Virtual teams can provide a platform to advance the knowledge-base in a company and thus to reduce time-to-market. This article introduces conceptual product development architecture under a virtual team umbrella. The paper describes all the major aspects of new product development (NPD), NPD process and its relationship with virtual teams, Stage-Gate system finally presents a modified Stage-Gate system to cope up with the changing needs. It also provides the guidelines for the successful implementation of virtual teams in new product development

    The Effect of Corporate Cultural Factors on the Data Warehousing Success: An Empirical Investigation

    This study is aimed at identifying the impact of corporate cultural factors on successful development of data warehousing in the United Arab Emirates. The theoretical framework of the study is formulated based on analysis of related literature coupled with the information gained from interviewing data warehousing experts. Five hundred and eighty data warehouse users in 34 companies were surveyed to obtain their perceptions of the extent that each of 132 items had actually contributed to their firms’ DW success at different phases of development. Rigorous multivariate statistical analysis procedure has been followed to design and construct an overall model of DW success. The model has proven that all its independent variables have significant influence on the DW overall success and that corporate cultural factors have dominant impact on this success throughout the different phases of DW development

    This study examines factors that influence the intention to adopt green practices for logistics companies. The determinant factors include technological, organizational, environmental and environmental awareness. The data came from the questionnaire survey on logistics companies in Malaysia, and 150 samples were analyzed. The survey results reveal that three of the factors show insignificant result towards green practices adoption while one factor has positive influences on the intention to adopt green practices. Technological, environment and environment awareness factors exhibit insignificant influences on the willingness to adopt green practices while the organizational factors exhibit significant influences on the willingness to adopt green practice

    A Case Study of Success Factors for Data Warehouse Implementation and Adoption in Sales Planning

    We present the case of the successful implementation of a data warehouse for support of the sales planning process in an Austrian company. We investigate the factors that contributed to the success of the project. The key findings of this case study are as follows. First, highly-qualified external consultants may compensate insufficient qualification of internal staff. Of particular importance in that case is communication between internal staff and external consultants. Second, user training compensates a lack of (perceived) usability of the software. Resistance of initially overwhelmed users may be overcome through training sessions. Finally, rather than acquire functionality that is not required, companies should ensure customizability of the acquired software, which is often more important than a plethora of features

This paper employes the questionnaire survey to study the factors influencing the adoption of technological innovations by logistics service providers in China as well as the influences of technological innovation on supply chain performance. Technological innovations are categorized into data acquisition technologies, information technologies, warehousing technologies, and transportation technologies.
