    Development of synchronverter control for induction motor connection

    More and more attention has been paid to the energy crisis due to the increasing energy demand from industrial and commercial applications. The utilization of renewable energy considered as one of the most promising electrical energy sources, which has grown rapidly in the last three decades. In this day and age, many power converter techniques have been developed to integrate renewable energy with the electrical grid. In this work, there is a new technical control is known as synchronverter control which is using the synchronous generator mathematical equations as a reference. This synchronverter control is connected with DC-AC three phase inverter to work as controller of output power to feed the load. In this control strategy, the output current of the controllable inverter is controlled by a feedback load current according to the current reference. The synchronverter technology has been applied to control the inverter for the induction motor connection. An experimental setup based on DSP (Digital Signal Processing) and dc drive board have been designed to implement the open and closed loop experiments. All experiments have been implemented on a test rig based on Matlab 20013a/simulink software and Code Composer Studio V6.0 to demonstrate the excellent performance of the proposed control strategies with stability of the system, sinusoidal currents and good dynamics. Finally, an improve control strategy based on the synchronverter control technology has been tested for three phase inverter for renewable energy applications to make the whole system behave as a synchronous generator

    Fast Adaptive Robust Differentiator Based Robust-Adaptive Control of Grid-Tied Inverters with a New L Filter Design Method

    In this research, a new nonlinear and adaptive state feedback controller with a fast-adaptive robust differentiator is presented for grid-tied inverters. All parameters and external disturbances are taken as uncertain in the design of the proposed controller without the disadvantages of singularity and over-parameterization. A robust differentiator based on the second order sliding mode is also developed with a fast-adaptive structure to be able to consider the time derivative of the virtual control input. Unlike the conventional backstepping, the proposed differentiator overcomes the problem of explosion of complexity. In the closed-loop control system, the three phase source currents and direct current (DC) bus voltage are assumed to be available for feedback. Using the Lyapunov stability theory, it is proven that the overall control system has the global asymptotic stability. In addition, a new simple L filter design method based on the total harmonic distortion approach is also proposed. Simulations and experimental results show that the proposed controller assurances drive the tracking errors to zero with better performance, and it is robust against all uncertainties. Moreover, the proposed L filter design method matches the total harmonic distortion (THD) aim in the design with the experimental result

    Self-Commissioning Algorithm for Inverter Non-Linearity Compensation in Sensorless Induction Motor Drives

    In many sensorless field-oriented control schemes for induction motor (IM) drives, flux is estimated by means of measured motor currents and control reference voltages. In most cases, flux estimation is based on the integral of back-electromotive-force (EMF) voltages. Inverter nonlinear errors (dead-time and on-state voltage drops) introduce a distortion in the estimated voltage that reduces the accuracy of the flux estimation, particularly at low speed. In the literature, most of the compensation techniques of such errors require the offline identification of the inverter model and offline postprocessing. This paper presents a simple and accurate method for the identification of inverter parameters at the drive startup. The method is integrated into the control code of the IM drive, and it is based on the information contained in the feedback signal of the flux observer. The procedure applies, more in general, to all those sensorless ac drives where the flux is estimated using the back-EMF integration, not only for IM drives but also for permanent-magnet synchronous motor drives (surface-mounted permanent magnet and interior permanent magnet). A self-commissioning algorithm is presented and tested for the sensorless control of an IM drive, implemented on a fixed-point DSP.     AC voltage regulation of a bidirectional high-frequency link converter using a deadbeat controller

    This paper presents a digital controller for AC voltage regulation of a bidirectional high-frequency link (BHFL) inverter using Deadbeat control. The proposed controller consists of inner current loop, outer voltage loop and a feed-forward controller, which imposes a gain scheduling effect according to the reference signal to compensate the steady-state error of the system. The main property of the proposed controller is that the current- and the voltage-loop controllers have the same structure, and use the same sampling period. This simplifies the design and implementation processes. To improve the overall performance of the system, additional disturbance decoupling networks are employed. This takes into account the model discretization effect. Therefore, accurate disturbance decoupling can be achieved, and the system robustness towards load variations is increased. To avoid transformer saturation due to low frequency voltage envelopes, an equalized pulse width modulation (PWM) technique has been introduced. The proposed controller has been realized using the DS1104 digital signal processor (DSP) from dSPACE. Its performances have been tested on a one kVA prototype inverter. Experimental results showed that the proposed controller has very fast dynamic and good steady-state responses even under highly nonlinear loads

    A novel, robust DSP-based indirect rotor position estimation for permanent magnet AC motors without rotor saliency

    Copyright © 2003 IEEEThis paper proposes and implements a novel rotor position sensorless technique for PM AC motor drives, which allows acceleration from standstill and can operate under various practical operating conditions including transient speed changes. The technique developed here relies on the measurement of the phase voltages and currents of the motor. It uses the incremental values of flux linkage, and the back-EMF functions to estimate incremental rotor position. Using a phase-locked loop (PLL) algorithm, an internal closed-loop correction algorithm can correct rotor position estimation drift, which may be due to the motor parameter variations or measurement inaccuracies. The method is implemented in closed-loop using a digital signal processor (DSP), and details of the implementation are provided in the paper.     This research presents a proposed new method of improving the energy efficiency of a Variable Speed Drive (VSD) for induction motors. The principles of VSD are reviewed with emphasis on the efficiency and power losses associated with the operation of the variable speed compressor motor drive, particularly at low speed operation.The efficiency of induction motor when operated at rated speed and load torque is high. However at low load operation, application of the induction motor at rated flux will cause the iron losses to increase excessively, hence its efficiency will reduce dramatically. To improve this efficiency, it is essential to obtain the flux level that minimizes the total motor losses. This technique is known as an efficiency or energy optimization control method. In practice, typical of the compressor load does not require high dynamic response, therefore improvement of the efficiency optimization control that is proposed in this research is based on scalar control model.In this research, development of a new neural network controller for efficiency optimization control is proposed. The controller is designed to generate both voltage and frequency reference signals imultaneously. To achieve a robust controller from variation of motor parameters, a real-time or on-line learning algorithm based on a second order optimization Levenberg-Marquardt is employed. The simulation of the proposed controller for variable speed compressor is presented. The results obtained clearly show that the efficiency at low speed is significant increased. Besides that the speed of the motor can be maintained. Furthermore, the controller is also robust to the motor parameters variation. The simulation results are also verified by experiment

    Diagnosis of Inter-Turn Short Circuit for a Polyphase Induction Motor in Closed-Loop Vector-Controlled Drives

    The main objective of this paper is to develop and experimentally verify a new technique to detect an inter-turn short circuit in one phase of a stator winding of an induction motor energized from a vector-controlled drive. This is in order to overcome the fault masking difficulties associated with the concept of depending on the actual magnetic field pendulous oscillation between the conventional voltage and current space vectors with respect to a reference that is unaltered by the compensation action of the drive. This technique is based on the flux pendulous oscillation phenomenon. This flux pendulous oscillation is also described in this paper, this in addition to the magnetic field pendulous oscillation previously addressed in prior publications. The new approach has been verified through experimental results which are represented here

    New Optimal High Efficiency Dsp-based Digital Controller Design For Super High-speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

    This dissertation investigates digital controller and switch mode power supply design for super high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). The PMSMs are a key component for the miniaturic cryocooler that is currently under development at the University of Central Florida with support from NASA Kennedy Space Center and the Florida Solar Energy Center. Advanced motor design methods, control strategies, and rapid progress in semiconductor technology enables production of a highly efficient digital controller. However, there are still challenges for such super high-speed controller design because of its stability, high-speed, variable speed operation, and required efficiency over a wide speed range. Currently, limited research, and no commercial experimental analysis, is available concerning such motors and their control system design. The stability of a super high-speed PMSM is an important issue particularly for open-loop control, given that PMSM are unstable after exceeding a certain applied frequency. In this dissertation, the stability of super high-speed PMSM is analyzed and some design suggestions are given to maximize this parameter. For ordinary motors, the V/f control curve is a straight line with a boost voltage because the stator resistance is negligible and only has a significant effect around the DC frequency. However, for the proposed super high-speed PMSM the situation is quite different because of the motor\u27s size. The stator resistance is quite large compared with the stator reactive impedance and cannot be neglected when employing constant a V/f control method. The challenge is to design an optimal constant V/f control scheme to raise efficiency with constant V/f control. In the development, test systems and prototype boards were built and experimental results confirmed the effectiveness of the dissertation system

    Control Strategies for Open-End Winding Drives Operating in the Flux-Weakening Region

    This paper presents and compares control strategies for three-phase open-end winding drives operating in the flux-weakening region. A six-leg inverter with a single dc-link is associated with the machine in order to use a single energy source. With this topology, the zero-sequence circuit has to be considered since the zero-sequence current can circulate in the windings. Therefore, conventional over-modulation strategies are not appropriate when the machine enters in the flux-weakening region. A few solutions dealing with the zero-sequence circuit have been proposed in literature. They use a modified space vector modulation or a conventional modulation with additional voltage limitations. The paper describes the aforementioned strategies and then a new strategy is proposed. This new strategy takes into account the magnitudes and phase angles of the voltage harmonic components. This yields better voltage utilization in the dq frame. Furthermore, inverter saturation is avoided in the zero-sequence frame and therefore zero-sequence current control is maintained. Three methods are implemented on a test bed composed of a three-phase permanent-magnet synchronous machine, a six-leg inverter and a hybrid DSP/FPGA controller. Experimental results are presented and compared for all strategies. A performance analysis is conducted as regards the region of operation and the machine parameters.Projet SOFRACI/FU
