Automated Accidental Precautions in Public Transportation Management System

    Get PDF
This paper aims at different types of transportation problems by presenting a proper management process to improve the public transportation management system. In modern era, the accidents and the indifference makes the major death rate, this is because of the lagging of immediate precautionary actions. In order to decrease the death rate and also to improve the immediate measures for the effect is proposed by using the method of IoT. In this system, every bus contains GPS to track the bus if it met with an accident, crash sensor and pressure sensor is also used to check whether the bus dashed with other vehicles or not and piezo sensor is to check if the bus roll down due to any mechanical failures. The level of accident at the hazardous weather that is, the wind flow at hills station makes an unstable condition for the transportation system. Basically, in hill areas the wind flowin every day is unpredictable one and a challengeable one. To avoid those risky factors, we implemented cruise control which accommodate the speed limit of the vehicles according to the pre-moving vehicles

Supporting Cyber-Physical Systems with Wireless Sensor Networks: An Outlook of Software and Services

    Get PDF
Sensing, communication, computation and control technologies are the essential building blocks of a cyber-physical system (CPS). Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are a way to support CPS as they provide fine-grained spatial-temporal sensing, communication and computation at a low premium of cost and power. In this article, we explore the fundamental concepts guiding the design and implementation of WSNs. We report the latest developments in WSN software and services for meeting existing requirements and newer demands; particularly in the areas of: operating system, simulator and emulator, programming abstraction, virtualization, IP-based communication and security, time and location, and network monitoring and management. We also reflect on the ongoing efforts in providing dependable assurances for WSN-driven CPS. Finally, we report on its applicability with a case-study on smart buildings

The role of blockchain technology in the transition toward the circular economy: Findings from a systematic literature review

    Get PDF
The circular economy (CE) has emerged as a paradigm to protect the environment and the well-being of future generations. In parallel, Blockchain technology (BC) has emerged as a critical enabler for accelerating the transition toward a CE. In order to understand and summarize prior research on the role of BC in the CE, we conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) of 70 seminal articles published before July 2022. Six main themes emerged: a) CE approaches and practices, b) BC and the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT), c) sustainable supply chain management, d) BC and the CE in the COVID-19 era, e) sector-specific BC applications, and f) barriers to BC adoption in the CE. Furthermore, we develop a comprehensive framework that integrates stakeholders, strategies and practices, industrial sectors and a BC-enabled CE

IOT Cloud Based Real Time Automobile Monitoring System

Smart sensing has had a significant impact on defining our future in recent years. The field of IOT is a recent technical innovation that has caused a change in lifestyle (Internet of things). IoT refers to the internetworking of physical equipment and other items that are equipped with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity to allow data to be collected from them. Transportation is a booming industry in India, with the number of vehicles on the road increasing by the day. Monitoring vehicle metrics such as gasoline, temperature, and battery level without having to touch the car is perfect. In this digital age, a digital locking mechanism is desperately needed. When your vehicle is not with you, vehicle tracking is also essential. Here, car tracking is designed using GPS to conveniently locate the user's vehicle. The IoT cloud-based real-time automotive monitoring system is capable of monitoring our vehicle's metrics such as fuel level, battery level, engine temperature, and speed, as well as tracking the driver's alcohol percentage via an Android application. We receive an alert when one of these metrics crosses a certain threshold. Its Smart RFID digital key secures your vehicle even more than keys do. We may save our vehicle documents, driver's licences, insurance copies, and other documents in this project's Android application. Whenever an accident occurs, send a message to trusted people with the location

Enhancing pharmaceutical packaging through a technology ecosystem to facilitate the reuse of medicines and reduce medicinal waste

    Get PDF
The idea of reusing dispensed medicines is appealing to the general public provided its benefits are illustrated, its risks minimized, and the logistics resolved. For example, medicine reuse could help reduce medicinal waste, protect the environment and improve public health. However, the associated technologies and legislation facilitating medicine reuse are generally not available. The availability of suitable technologies could arguably help shape stakeholders’ beliefs and in turn, uptake of a future medicine reuse scheme by tackling the risks and facilitating the practicalities. A literature survey is undertaken to lay down the groundwork for implementing technologies on and around pharmaceutical packaging in order to meet stakeholders’ previously expressed misgivings about medicine reuse (’stakeholder requirements’), and propose a novel ecosystem for, in effect, reusing returned medicines. Methods: A structured literature search examining the application of existing technologies on pharmaceutical packaging to enable medicine reuse was conducted and presented as a narrative review. Results: Reviewed technologies are classified according to different stakeholders’ requirements, and a novel ecosystem from a technology perspective is suggested as a solution to reusing medicines. Conclusion: Active sensing technologies applying to pharmaceutical packaging using printed electronics enlist medicines to be part of the Internet of Things network. Validating the quality and safety of returned medicines through this network seems to be the most effective way for reusing medicines and the correct application of technologies may be the key enabler

Synergy: An Energy Monitoring and Visualization System

    Get PDF
The key to becoming a more sustainable society is first learning to take responsibility for the role we play in energy consumption. Real-time energy usage gives energy consumers a sense of responsibility over what they can do to accomplish a much larger goal for the planet, and practically speaking, what they can do to lower the cost to their wallets. Synergy is an energy monitoring and visualization system that enables users to gather information about the energy consumption in a building – small or large – and display that data for the user in real-time. The gathered energy usage data is processed on the edge before being stored in the cloud. The two main benefits of edge processing are issuing electricity hazard warnings immediately and preserving user privacy. In addition to being a scalable solution that intended for use in individual households, commercial offices and city power grids, Synergy is open-source so that it can be implemented more widely. This paper contains a system overview as well as initial finding based on the data collected by Synergy before assessing the impact the system can have on society

GNSS-free outdoor localization techniques for resource-constrained IoT architectures : a literature review

    Get PDF
Large-scale deployments of the Internet of Things (IoT) are adopted for performance improvement and cost reduction in several application domains. The four main IoT application domains covered throughout this article are smart cities, smart transportation, smart healthcare, and smart manufacturing. To increase IoT applicability, data generated by the IoT devices need to be time-stamped and spatially contextualized. LPWANs have become an attractive solution for outdoor localization and received significant attention from the research community due to low-power, low-cost, and long-range communication. In addition, its signals can be used for communication and localization simultaneously. There are different proposed localization methods to obtain the IoT relative location. Each category of these proposed methods has pros and cons that make them useful for specific IoT systems. Nevertheless, there are some limitations in proposed localization methods that need to be eliminated to meet the IoT ecosystem needs completely. This has motivated this work and provided the following contributions: (1) definition of the main requirements and limitations of outdoor localization techniques for the IoT ecosystem, (2) description of the most relevant GNSS-free outdoor localization methods with a focus on LPWAN technologies, (3) survey the most relevant methods used within the IoT ecosystem for improving GNSS-free localization accuracy, and (4) discussion covering the open challenges and future directions within the field. Some of the important open issues that have different requirements in different IoT systems include energy consumption, security and privacy, accuracy, and scalability.
