    The development of a program analysis environment for Ada

    A unit level, Ada software module testing system, called Query Utility Environment for Software Testing of Ada (QUEST/Ada), is described. The project calls for the design and development of a prototype system. QUEST/Ada design began with a definition of the overall system structure and a description of component dependencies. The project team was divided into three groups to resolve the preliminary designs of the parser/scanner: the test data generator, and the test coverage analyzer. The Phase 1 report is a working document from which the system documentation will evolve. It provides history, a guide to report sections, a literature review, the definition of the system structure and high level interfaces, descriptions of the prototype scope, the three major components, and the plan for the remainder of the project. The appendices include specifications, statistics, two papers derived from the current research, a preliminary users' manual, and the proposal and work plan for Phase 2

    Automated unit-level testing with heuristic rules

    Software testing plays a significant role in the development of complex software systems. Current testing methods generally require significant effort to generate meaningful test cases. The QUEST/Ada system is a prototype system designed using CLIPS to experiment with expert system based test case generation. The prototype is designed to test for condition coverage, and attempts to generate test cases to cover all feasible branches contained in an Ada program. This paper reports on heuristics sued by the system. These heuristics vary according to the amount of knowledge obtained by preprocessing and execution of the boolean conditions in the program

    Otsingupõhine tarkvara testimine kasutab metaheuristilisi algoritme, et automatiseerida testide genereerimist. Selle töö eesmärgiks on osaliselt taasluua 2010. aastal kirjutatud Ali et al. artikkel, et uurida, kuidas on aastatel 2008-2015 kasutatud metaheuristilisi algoritme testide loomiseks. See töö analüüsib, kuidas on antud artiklid koostatud ning kuidas neis on algoritmide maksumust ja efektiivsust hinnatud. Kogutud tulemusi võrreldakse Ali et al. tulemustega.Search based software testing uses metaheuristic algorithms to automate the generation of test cases. This thesis partially replicates a literature study published in 2010 by Ali et al. to determine how studies published in 2008-2015 use metaheuristic algorithms to automate the generation of test cases. The thesis analyses how these studies were conducted and how the cost-effectiveness is assessed in these papers. The trends detected in the new publications are compared to those presented in Ali et al

    Development of a framework for automated systematic testing of safety-critical embedded systems

In model-based testing the test cases are derived from a model of the system under test. In our approach the model is an automaton model that is automatically extracted from the C-source code of the system under test. Beside random test data generation the test case generation uses formal methods, in detail model checking techniques. To find appropriate test cases we use the requirements defined in the system specification. To cover further execution paths we developed an additional, to our best knowledge, novel method based on special structural coverage criteria. We present preliminary results on the model extraction using a concrete industrial case study from the automotive domain

APA is commonly identified as a method that can enhance accuracy, efficiency and consistency as well as providing instant feedback on students’ programming solutions. In achieving APA, test data generation process is very important so as to perform a dynamic testing on students’ assignment. In software testing field, many researches that focus on test data generation have demonstrated the successful of adoption of Meta-Heuristic Search Techniques (MHST) so as to enhance the procedure of deriving adequate test data for efficient testing. Nonetheless, thus far the researches on APA have not yet usefully exploited the techniques accordingly to include a better quality program testing coverage. Therefore, this study has conducted a comparative evaluation to identify any applicable MHST to support efficient Automated Test Data Generation (ATDG) in executing a dynamic-functional testing in APA. Several recent MHST are included in the comparative evaluation combining both the local and global search algorithms ranging from the year of 2000 until 2018. Result of this study suggests that the hybridization of Cuckoo Search with Tabu Search and lévy flight as one of promising MHST to be applied, as it’s outperforms other MHST with regards to number of iterations and range of inputs

    An Algorithm for Generating Gap-Fill Multiple Choice Questions of an Expert System

    This research is aimed to propose an artificial intelligence algorithm comprising an ontology-based design, text mining, and natural language processing for automatically generating gap-fill multiple choice questions (MCQs). The simulation of this research demonstrated an application of the algorithm in generating gap-fill MCQs about software testing. The simulation results revealed that by using 103 online documents as inputs, the algorithm could automatically produce more than 16 thousand valid gap-fill MCQs covering a variety of topics in the software testing domain. Finally, in the discussion section of this paper we suggest how the proposed algorithm should be applied to produce gap-fill MCQs being collected in a question pool used by a knowledge expert system
