    Business process management tools as a measure of customer-centric maturity

    In application of business process management (BPM) tools in European commercial sectors, this paper examines current maturity of customer centricity construct (CC) as an emerging dimension of competition and as a potential strategic management direction for the future of business. Processes are one of the key components of transformation in the CC roadmap. Particular departments are more customer orientated than others, and processes, customer-centric expertise, and approach can be built and utilized starting from them. Positive items within a current business process that only involve minor modification could be the basis for that. The evidence of movement on the customer-centric roadmap is found. BPM in European telecommunications, banking, utility and retail sector supports roadmap towards customer-centricity in process view, process alignment and process optimization. However, the movement is partial and not flawless, as BPM hasn’t been inquired for supporting many of customer-centric dimensions

    User Experience is a concept that recently has gained a lot of interest in the high-tech consumer products industry. While technology development has converged and is starting to become a commodity and, as markets mature and loyal customers become more important, User Experience has emerged as a way to gain a competitive advantage. By studying literature, cases and articles, as well as interviewing key internal stakeholders, our ambition is to answer the following questions: • What is User Experience? What defines it and which factors should be considered in the high-tech consumer products industry? • Why is it important to embrace User Experience and use it as a differentiator? • How can a company implement a strategy and optimize work to deliver a quality User Experience? The study focuses on User Experience as a business strategy and the general organizational framework to support it. The study further emphasizes that User Experience consists of elements concerning availability, desirability, functionality and usability and is best depicted as a life cycle, described by the different activities performed by the user. The thesis shows that User Experience is a key driver to enable growth through differentiation and gaining new customers, as well as retaining loyal customers. The study also points out that to make necessary changes, it is important to communicate the vision, in order to gain commitment and finally gear action in order to achieve a great User Experience. The general conclusion is that the competencies of technology, design and business must cooperate and be well managed to support the consumer life cycle and deliver optimal User Experience in every step. It is also important to make the necessary trade-offs by focusing on experience instead of technology and on quality and scope instead of time-to-market. The study finally argues that a paradigm shift is needed and the realization of this means completely new ways of doing business

    Chemical enterprise model and decision-making framework for sustainable chemical product design

    The chemical product substitution process is undertaken by chemical industries for complying with regulations, like REACH in Europe. Initially devoted to chemists, chemicals substitution is nowadays a complex process involving corporate, business and engineering stakeholders across the chemical enterprise for orienting the search toward a sustainable solution. We formalize a decision making process framework dedicated to the sustainable chemical product design activity in an industrial context. The framework aims at improving the sharing of information and knowledge and at enabling a collaborative work across the chemical enterprise stakeholders at the strategic, tactical and operational levels. It is supported by information and communication technologies (ICT) and integrates a computer aided molecular design tool. During the initial intelligence phase, a systemic analysis of the needs and usages enables to define the product requirements. In the design phase, they are compiled with the help of a facilitator to generate the input file of a computer aided product design tool. This multiobjective tool is designed to find mixtures with molecular fragments issued from renewable raw materials, and is able to handle environment-health and safety related properties along with process physicochemical properties. The final choice phase discusses the solution relevancy and provides feedback, before launching the product manufacturing. The framework is illustrated by the search of a bio-sourced water–solvent mixture formulation for lithographic blanket wash used in printing industry.     This project explores how collaborative innovation and co-creation between stakeholders can deliver value for firms. In today’s increasingly competitive and fast-changing global marketplace, firms must seek to develop more frequent and higher quality innovations (Ngugi et al, 2010). In addition, customers, employees and other stakeholders are demanding opportunities to co-create and collaborate with businesses more and more. As Ramaswamy (2010) comments: “Providers of products and services are challenged by customers who are increasingly informed, connected, networked and empowered. Customers, employees and stakeholders are demanding higher quality interactions and experiences from businesses and a deeper engagement in the value-creation and service delivery processes” (Ramaswamy, 2010, pp. 22). Given this increasing need to collaborate, innovate and co-create, firms need a better understanding of how they can engage in these activities in a way that maximises the value created for all stakeholders; this project, through exploratory, qualitative research interviews and a wide-ranging literature review, seeks to make a contribution in this area

This study aims to develop a framework that provides the mechanisms to ensure that the software will have game characteristic and that clients will recognize it as Gamification. Our results show that the five-step framework proposal applied to the Gamification project management on this study, the Spiral development model, and the group discussion results into a positive effect on customers and e-business. The spiral development methodology used for the development of this application showed to be the appropriated for this type of project.     We are witnessing the need for a quick and intelligent reaction from organizations to the level and speed of change in business processes. This is often associated with the emerging of new information systems and technologies, bursting problems like the persistence of wrong information, systems not fully used and slow response. This requires two main actions: synchronizing people’s visions and strategies within the organization and selecting the information which is relevant for the strategic goals. The main challenge of the proposed approach is to choose the information systems’ portfolio management aligned with the enterprise architecture. This integration leads to modelling the process architecture of the company, which in turn serves as a reference for knowledge-base management to cope with business prospects.     The economic-driven evaluation of information technology (IT) has become an important instrument in the management of IT projects. Numerous approaches have been developed to quantify the costs of an IT investment and its assumed profit, to evaluate its impact on business process performance, and to analyze the role of IT regarding the achievement of enterprise objectives. This paper discusses approaches for evaluating IT from an economic-driven perspective. Our comparison is based on a framework distinguishing between classification criteria and evaluation criteria. The former allow for the categorization of evaluation approaches based on their similarities and differences. The latter, by contrast, represent attributes that allow to evaluate the discussed approaches. Finally, we give an example of a typical economic-driven IT evaluation
