    BLACKFACE SURVEILLANCE CAMERA DATABASE FOR EVALUATING FACE RECOGNITION IN LOW QUALITY SCENARIOS

    Many face recognition algorithms perform poorly in real life surveillance scenarios because they were tested with datasets that are already biased with high quality images and certain ethnic or racial types. In this paper a black face surveillance camera (BFSC) database was described, which was collected from four low quality cameras and a professional camera. There were fifty (50) random volunteers and 2,850 images were collected for the frontal mugshot, surveillance (visible light), surveillance (IR night vision), and pose variations datasets, respectively. Images were taken at distance 3.4, 2.4, and 1.4 metres from the camera, while the pose variation images were taken at nine distinct pose angles with an increment of 22.5 degrees to the left and right of the subject. Three Face Recognition Algorithms (FRA), a commercially available Luxand SDK, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) were evaluated for performance comparison in low quality scenarios. Results obtained show that camera quality (resolution), face-to-camera distance, average recognition time, lighting conditions and pose variations all affect the performance of FRAs. Luxand SDK, PCA and LDA returned an overall accuracy of 97.5%, 93.8% and 92.9% after categorizing the BFSC images into excellent, good and acceptable quality scales.

    An Empirical Evaluation On Vibrotactile Feedback For Wristband System

    With the rapid development of mobile computing, wearable wrist-worn is becoming more and more popular. But the current vibrotactile feedback patterns of most wrist-worn devices are too simple to enable effective interaction in nonvisual scenarios. In this paper, we propose the wristband system with four vibrating motors placed in different positions in the wristband, providing multiple vibration patterns to transmit multi-semantic information for users in eyes-free scenarios. However, we just applied five vibrotactile patterns in experiments (positional up and down, horizontal diagonal, clockwise circular, and total vibration) after contrastive analyzing nine patterns in a pilot experiment. The two experiments with the same 12 participants perform the same experimental process in lab and outdoors. According to the experimental results, users can effectively distinguish the five patterns both in lab and outside, with approximately 90% accuracy (except clockwise circular vibration of outside experiment), proving these five vibration patterns can be used to output multi-semantic information.     Teachers' recognition of school bullying according to background variables and type of bullying

    How teachers identify and judge school bullying may affect their willingness to intervene in bullying situations and influence their strategies for doing so. This study aimed to investigate whether there were significant differences in teachers' identification of bullying incidents according to background variables (gender, teaching experience, and education level). The participants of this study were 150 primary school and middle school teachers in Taiwan, A 24-item Recognition of Bullying incidents Questionnaire (RBIQ) was used in this study to explore whether teachers can identify physical, verbal, and relational scenarios as bullying or non-bullying incidents. A mixed-model two way ANOVA was used to analyze this data. Results revealed that teachers' teaching experiences significantly interacted with behavioral types, and teachers' education levels also sigm candy interacted with behavioral types. In addition, no gender differences in the identification of bullying were observed. Overall, teachers were more likely to identifi physical bullying incidents than relational ones. The results of this study suggest that teachers should participate in training to help them identify bullying incidents, particularly when these involve relational bullying

    An Empirical Study Comparing Unobtrusive Physiological Sensors for Stress Detection in Computer Work.

    Several unobtrusive sensors have been tested in studies to capture physiological reactions to stress in workplace settings. Lab studies tend to focus on assessing sensors during a specific computer task, while in situ studies tend to offer a generalized view of sensors' efficacy for workplace stress monitoring, without discriminating different tasks. Given the variation in workplace computer activities, this study investigates the efficacy of unobtrusive sensors for stress measurement across a variety of tasks. We present a comparison of five physiological measurements obtained in a lab experiment, where participants completed six different computer tasks, while we measured their stress levels using a chest-band (ECG, respiration), a wristband (PPG and EDA), and an emerging thermal imaging method (perinasal perspiration). We found that thermal imaging can detect increased stress for most participants across all tasks, while wrist and chest sensors were less generalizable across tasks and participants. We summarize the costs and benefits of each sensor stream, and show how some computer use scenarios present usability and reliability challenges for stress monitoring with certain physiological sensors. We provide recommendations for researchers and system builders for measuring stress with physiological sensors during workplace computer use
