Horizon Report 2009
El informe anual Horizon investiga, identifica y clasifica las tecnologĂas emergentes que los expertos que lo elaboran prevĂ©n tendrĂĄn un impacto en la enseñanza aprendizaje, la investigaciĂłn y la producciĂłn creativa en el contexto educativo de la enseñanza superior. TambiĂ©n estudia las tendencias clave que permiten prever el uso que se harĂĄ de las mismas y los retos que ellos suponen para las aulas. Cada ediciĂłn identifica seis tecnologĂas o prĂĄcticas. Dos cuyo uso se prevĂ© emergerĂĄ en un futuro inmediato (un año o menos) dos que emergerĂĄn a medio plazo (en dos o tres años) y dos previstas a mĂĄs largo plazo (5 años)

MORMED: towards a multilingual social networking platform facilitating medicine 2.0
The broad adoption of Web 2.0 tools has signalled a new era of "Medicine 2.0" in the field of medical informatics. The support for collaboration within online communities and the sharing of information in social networks offers the opportunity for new communication channels among patients, medical experts, and researchers. This paper introduces MORMED, a novel multilingual social networking and content management platform that exemplifies the Medicine 2.0 paradigm, and aims to achieve knowledge commonality by promoting sociality, while also transcending language barriers through automated translation. The MORMED platform will be piloted in a community interested in the treatment of rare diseases (Lupus or Antiphospholipid Syndrome)
Common vocabularies for collective intelligence - work in progress
Web based applications and tools offer a great potential to increase the efficiency of information flow and communication among different agents during emergencies. Among the different factors, technical and non technical, that hinder the integration of an information model in emergency management sector, is a lack of a common, shared vocabulary. This paper furthers previous work in the area of ontology development, and presents a summary and overview of the goal, process and methodology to construct a shared set of metadata that can be used to map existing vocabulary. Agents in Bioinformatics
The scope of the Technical Forum Group (TFG) on Agents in Bioinformatics (BIOAGENTS) was to inspire collaboration between the agent and bioinformatics communities with the aim of creating an opportunity to propose a different (agent-based) approach to the development of computational frameworks both for data analysis in bioinformatics and for system modelling in computational biology. During the day, the participants examined the future of research on agents in bioinformatics primarily through 12 invited talks selected to cover the most relevant topics. From the discussions, it became clear that there are many perspectives to the field, ranging from bio-conceptual languages for agent-based simulation, to the definition of bio-ontology-based declarative languages for use by information agents, and to the use of Grid agents, each of which requires further exploration. The interactions between participants encouraged the development of applications that describe a way of creating agent-based simulation models of biological systems, starting from an hypothesis and inferring new knowledge (or relations) by mining and analysing the huge amount of public biological data.
