A solution for actors' viewpoints representation with collaborative product development
As product complexity and marketing competition increase, a collaborative
product development is necessary for companies which develop high quality
products in short lead-times. To support product actors from different fields,
disciplines, and locations, wishing to exchange and share information, the
representation of the actors' viewpoints is the underlying requirement of the
collaborative product development. The actors' viewpoints approach was designed
to provide an organisational framework following the actors' perspectives in
the collaboration, and their relationships, could be explicitly gathered and
formatted. The approach acknowledges the inevitability of multiple integration
of product information as different views, promotes gathering of actors'
interests, and encourages retrieved adequate information while providing
support for integration through PLM and/or SCM collaboration. In this paper, a
solution for neutral viewpoints representation is proposed. The product,
process, and organisation information models are seriatim discussed. A series
of issues referring to the viewpoints representation are discussed in detail.
Based on XML standard, taking cyclone vessel as an example, an application case
of part of product information modelling is stated.Comment: ISBN: 2-287-48363-
Collaborative design : managing task interdependencies and multiple perspectives
This paper focuses on two characteristics of collaborative design with
respect to cooperative work: the importance of work interdependencies linked to
the nature of design problems; and the fundamental function of design
cooperative work arrangement which is the confrontation and combination of
perspectives. These two intrinsic characteristics of the design work stress
specific cooperative processes: coordination processes in order to manage task
interdependencies, establishment of common ground and negotiation mechanisms in
order to manage the integration of multiple perspectives in design
Analysis and control of complex collaborative design systems
This paper presents a novel method for modelling the complexity of collaborative design systems based on its analysis and proposes a solution to reducing complexity and improving performance of such systems. The interaction and interfacing properties among many components of a complex design system are analysed from different viewpoints and then a complexity model for collaborative design is established accordingly. In order to simplify complexity and improve performance of collaborative design, a general solution of decomposing a whole system into sub-systems and using unified interface mechanism between them has been proposed. This proposed solution has been tested with a case study. It has been shown that the proposed solution is meaningful and practical
A metric to represent the evolution of CAD/analysis models in collaborative design
Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) models are often used during product design. Various interactions between the different models must be managed for the designed system to be robust and in accordance with initially defined specifications. Research published to date has for example considered the link between digital mock-up and analysis models. However design/analysis integration must take into consideration the important number of models (digital mock-up and simulation) due to model evolution in time, as well as considering system engineering. To effectively manage modifications made to the system, the dependencies between the different models must be known and the nature of the modification must be characterised to estimate the impact of the modification throughout the dependent models. We propose a technique to describe the nature of a modification which may be used to determine the consequence within other models as well as a way to qualify the modified information. To achieve this, a metric is proposed that allows the qualification and evaluation of data or information, based on the maturity and validity of information and model
A web-based teaching/learning environment to support collaborative knowledge construction in design
A web-based application has been developed as part of a recently completed research which proposed a conceptual framework to collect, analyze and compare different design experiences and to construct structured representations of the emerging knowledge in digital architectural design. The paper introduces the theoretical and practical development of this application as a teaching/learning environment which has significantly contributed to the development and testing of the ideas developed throughout the research. Later in the paper, the application of BLIP in two experimental (design) workshops is reported and evaluated according to the extent to which the application facilitates generation, modification and utilization of design knowledge
Eco Global Evaluation: Cross Benefits of Economic and Ecological Evaluation
This paper highlights the complementarities of cost and environmental evaluation in a sustainable approach. Starting with the needs and limits for whole product lifecycle evaluation, this paper begins with the modeling, data capture and performance indicator aspects. In a second step, the information issue, regarding the whole lifecycle of the product is addressed. In order to go further than the economical evaluations/assessment, the value concept (for a product or a service) is discussed. Value could combine functional requirements, cost objectives and environmental impact. Finally, knowledge issues which address the complexity of integrating multi-disciplinary expertise to the whole lifecycle of a product are discussing.EcoSD NetworkEcoSD networ
A Knowledge Engineering Method for New Product Development
International audienceEngineering activities involve large groups of people from different domains and disciplines. They often generate important information flows that are difficult to manage. To face these difficulties, a knowledge engineering process is necessary to structure the information and its use. This paper presents a deployment of a knowledge capitalization process based on the enrichment of MOKA methodology to support the integration of Process Planning knowledge in a CAD System. Our goal is to help different actors to work collaboratively by proposing one referential view of the domain, the context and the objectives assuming that it will help them in better decision-making
