Software quality assurance plan for GCS

Get PDF
The software quality assurance (SQA) function for the Guidance and Control Software (GCS) project which is part of a software error studies research program is described. The SQA plan outlines all of the procedures, controls, and audits to be carried out by the SQA organization to ensure adherence to the policies, procedures, and standards for the GCS project

Shuttle avionics software trials, tribulations and success

The early problems and the solutions developed to provide the required quality software needed to support the space shuttle engine development program are described. The decision to use a programmable digital control system on the space shuttle engine was primarily based upon the need for a flexible control system capable of supporting the total engine mission on a large complex pump fed engine. The mission definition included all control phases from ground checkout through post shutdown propellant dumping. The flexibility of the controller through reprogrammable software allowed the system to respond to the technical challenges and innovation required to develop both the engine and controller hardware. This same flexibility, however, placed a severe strain on the capability of the software development and verification organization. The overall development program required that the software facility accommodate significant growth in both the software requirements and the number of software packages delivered. This challenge was met by reorganization and evolution in the process of developing and verifying software

Domain specific software architectures: Command and control

Get PDF
GTE is the Command and Control contractor for the Domain Specific Software Architectures program. The objective of this program is to develop and demonstrate an architecture-driven, component-based capability for the automated generation of command and control (C2) applications. Such a capability will significantly reduce the cost of C2 applications development and will lead to improved system quality and reliability through the use of proven architectures and components. A major focus of GTE's approach is the automated generation of application components in particular subdomains. Our initial work in this area has concentrated in the message handling subdomain; we have defined and prototyped an approach that can automate one of the most software-intensive parts of C2 systems development. This paper provides an overview of the GTE team's DSSA approach and then presents our work on automated support for message processing

An approach to software reliability prediction and quality control

Get PDF
December 5-7, 1972, Fall Joint Computer ConferenceThe increase in importance of software in command and control and other complex systems has not been accompanied by commensurate progress in the develop- ment of analytical techniques for the measurement of software quality and the prediction of software reliability. This paper presents a rationale for imple- menting software reliability programs; defines software reliability; and describes some of the problems of performing software reliability analysis. A software reliability program is outlined and a methodology for reliability prediction and quality control is presented. The results of initial efforts to develop a software reliability methodology at the Naval Electronics Laboratory Center are reported

The NCC project: A quality management perspective

Get PDF
The Network Control Center (NCC) Project introduced the concept of total quality management (TQM) in mid-1990. The CSC project team established a program which focused on continuous process improvement in software development methodology and consistent deliveries of high quality software products for the NCC. The vision of the TQM program was to produce error free software. Specific goals were established to allow continuing assessment of the progress toward meeting the overall quality objectives. The total quality environment, now a part of the NCC Project culture, has become the foundation for continuous process improvement and has resulted in the consistent delivery of quality software products over the last three years

A data quality control program for computer-assisted personal interviews

Get PDF
Researchers strive to optimize data quality in order to ensure that study findings are valid and reliable. In this paper, we describe a data quality control program designed to maximize quality of survey data collected using computer-assisted personal interviews. The quality control program comprised three phases: (1) software development, (2) an interviewer quality control protocol, and (3) a data cleaning and processing protocol. To illustrate the value of the program, we assess its use in the Translating Research in Elder Care Study. We utilize data collected annually for two years from computer-assisted personal interviews with 3004 healthcare aides. Data quality was assessed using both survey and process data. Missing data and data errors were minimal. Mean and median values and standard deviations were within acceptable limits. Process data indicated that in only 3.4% and 4.0% of cases was the interviewer unable to conduct interviews in accordance with the details of the program. Interviewers’ perceptions of interview quality also significantly improved between Years 1 and 2. While this data quality control program was demanding in terms of time and resources, we found that the benefits clearly outweighed the effort required to achieve high-quality data.<br /

Industry 4.0 era encourage FMCG manufacture industries in Indonesia to continuously innovating through digital technology adoption in their process, including quality management. Quality management digitalization in manufacture industry in Indonesia is now at the level of leaving paperwork documentation and analog communication in quality control; and have started to adopt computerized database and analysis. The absent of national software provider and academic study focusing on quality management digitalization concept has become an obstacle for Indonesia to evolve in Industry 4.0 era. This paper intended to provide conceptual design of integrated quality management digitalization to support FMCG industries in effective decision making and compliance to quality control plan; and to stimulate national software provider to develop digitalized quality management program. The research use descriptive qualitative method through literature review of articles indexed in Garuda and Mendeley from 2017 to 2020 to make sure if there any previous research studied quality management digitalization for FMCG industry, and thus the review will be used as a strong reason to develop concept of quality management digitalization. The result showing no research found that exclusively studied about quality management digitalization for FMCG, and thus concept of quality management digitalization for FMCG is proposed as a baseline foundation for program developer to develop an integrated software in quality management digitalization for FMCG

Computing Multivariate Process Capability Indices With Microsoft Excel

In manufacturing industry there is growing interest in measures of process capability under multivariate setting. While there are many statistical packages to assess univariate capability, a current problem with the multivariate measures of capability is the shortage of user friendly software. In this paper a Visual Basic program has been developed to realize an Excel spreadsheet that may be used to compute two multivariate measures of capability. Our aim is to provide a useful tool for practitioners dealing with multivariate capability assessment problems. The features of the program include easy data entry and clear report formatMultivariate Process capability indices, statistical quality control, Visual Basic, Excel Indici di capacità multivariati, Controllo statistico della qualità

DESERT: Decision Support System for Evaluating River Basin Strategies

Get PDF
An integrated PC-based software package for decision support in water quality management on a river basin scale has been developed. The software incorporates a number of useful tools, including an easy-to-use data handling module with a dBase style database engine, simulation and calibration of hydraulics and water quality, display of computed data with the help of external spreadsheet software, and optimization based on dynamic programming algorithm. The main utility of the package is to provide useful and powerful instrument for water quality assessment and decision making in emission control, including selection of wastewater treatment alternatives, standard setting and enforcement at the river basin level. Two versions of the decision support software are presented, the current version and development of a follow-up program with extended features
