Devplex Technologies Limited is a privately owned company based in Galway Ireland. They have been operating for over two years and currently undertake contract projects for the travel and financial industries. The projects are varied and a wide range of skills are necessary. Devplex Technologies are currently undergoing expansion and intend to hire a number of new employees with varying levels of experience. Devplex Technologies also employ a high number of contractors, with varying skills and contract periods range from one month to twenty four months. The current technical leaders are all very busy with project work. The human resource manager actively advertises positions on both the internet and local newspapers which results in a large number of responses. It is difficult to sort through all the applicants as a high level of technical knowledge is required to vet them. When the human resource (HR) manager selects a number of potential candidates from the vetted curriculum vitas, phone interviews are conducted. The HR manger pools questions which have been submitted from employees who have experience in the relevant technologies. The HR manager has to decide if the candidate\u27s answers are satisfactory for the questions. The most successful candidates are then requested to attend a formal interview. Once a candidate presents for interview they are requested to take a short 10 minute written exam where they are asked to answer five questions relevant to the position they are applying for. Regardless of the outcome of the exam the candidate then proceeds to a formal interview where two or more employees from Devplex Technology interview the candidate and take note of their findings. Once the candidate has left the interview, the HR manager and interviewers meet to discuss the exam and interview and decide if the candidate should be brought for a second interview. If the candidate\u27s second interview is successful the candidate is hired. Devplex Technology interviews a high number of unsuccessful candidates resulting in wasted time and effort. Sometimes employees who are not technically strong enough can be erroneously hired. Devplex Technology wishes to reduce this workload and hire more suitable people by implementing an enterprise based candidate assessment system. The system should allow the remote assessment of potential candidates. It should also allow the HR manager to easily retrieve questions and answers on a selected topic. The system should test the candidates only on subjects which apply to the role they are hired for, the questions should progressively get harder as the candidate gets more questions correct, this will allow for a truly strong candidate achieve the highest score. The overall aim of the system is to reduce workload and help find the best possible candidate for Devplex Technologies

Data analysis and navigation in high-dimensional chemical and biological spaces

The goal of this master thesis is to develop and validate a visual data-mining approach suitable for the screening of chemicals in the context of REACH [Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals]. The proposed approach will facilitate the development and validation of non-testing methods via the exploration of environmental endpoints and their relationship with the chemical structure and physicochemical properties of chemicals. The use of an interactive chemical space data exploration tool using 3D visualization and navigation will enrich the information available with additional variables like size, texture and color of the objects of the scene (compounds). The features that distinguish this approach and make it unique are (i) the integration of multiple data sources allowing the recovery in real time of complementary information of the studied compounds, (ii) the integration of several algorithms for the data analysis (dimensional reduction, generation of composite variables and clustering) and (iii) direct user interaction with the data through the virtual navigation mechanism. All this is achieved without the need for specialized hardware or the use of specific devices and high-cost virtual reality and mixed reality

A CASE Study on Software Project Development Cost, Schedule & Effort Estimation

This paper theme is to provide a case study of Software Project Development cost, effort, and schedule estimation. From recent past, a remarkable research takes place in developing different techniques on software effort and cost estimation. Making estimation before start of any project is necessary to be able to plan and manage any project. The estimate is an intelligent guess for the project resources. Nowadays, software has become a major contributor to economic growth for any nation. Making an estimate before starting any software project is vital for the project managers and key stakeholders. Major project milestones such as project schedules, budgeting, resource allocation, and project delivery dates are set on theeffort and cost estimates. Thus, the reliability of the estimation leads any project success or otherwise fail. In this article, author's idea is to work with function point analysis and include the concept of workforce scheduling in a better way while taking the decision in the contract phase. That leads to strengthening the relations between the developer and the customer. Basically, size is a main measured unit of the software project. Based on the size and other functionalities, the software managers estimate the total effort required to develop the project. From the effort and work schedule, the total cost can be estimated.Â

A Review on Web Application Testing and its Current Research Directions

Testing is an important part of every software development process on which companies devote considerable time and effort. The burgeoning web applications and their proliferating economic significance in the society made the area of web application testing an area of acute importance. The web applications generally tend to take faster and quicker release cycles making their testing very challenging. The main issues in testing are cost efficiency and bug detection efficiency. Coverage-based   testing is the process of ensuring exercise of specific program elements. Coverage measurement helps determine the “thoroughness” of testing achieved. An avalanche of tools, techniques, frameworks came into existence to ascertain the quality of web applications.  A comparative study of some of the prominent tools, techniques and models for web application testing is presented. This work highlights the current research directions of some of the web application testing techniques

Towards a Regression Test Selection Technique for Message-Based Software Integration

Regression testing is essential to ensure software quality. Regression Test-case selection is another process wherein, the testers would like to ensure that test-cases which are obsolete due to the changes in the system should not be considered for further testing. This is the Regression Test-case Selection problem. Although existing research has addressed many related problems, most of the existing regression test-case selection techniques cater to procedural systems. Being academic, they lack the scalability and detail to cater to multi-tier applications. Such techniques can be employed for procedural systems, usually mathematical applications. Enterprise applications have become complex and distributed leading to component-based architectures. Thus, inter-process communication has become a very important activity of any such system. Messaging is the most widely employed intermodule interaction mechanism. Today\u27s systems, being heavily internet dependent, are Web-Services based which utilize XML for messaging. We propose an RTS technique which is specifically targeted at enterprise applications
